It is a song about Robert Budd Dwyer who was the State Treasurer for Pennsylvania from 1981 to 1987. He commited suicide after being convicted of fraud charges despite protesting he was innocent. He called a press conference the day before handing out letters to several work colleagues and then shot himself during it. He still denied he had done anything wrong and it is believed he killed himself while still in office so his family would receive his benefits. Many people oroginally thought the song was about Kurt Cobains suicide. Cheers for the reaction

@darren rao Correct. The only way for his wife and family to receive his pension was if he died in office. If he went to court and was convicted, he would have been stripped of his job and lost his pension. His family had already gone broke spending all their money on his defense. Dwyer strongly contested that he was framed and setup, up until the point that he took his own life. Several decades later, the prosecution's main witness admitted that he lied under oath. He had told prosecutors that Dwyer took a bride (which was false) in order for the witness to get reduced sentence for himself.

I was 13 and I saw this on tv. I will never and I mean never forget that. Couldn't believe how much blood and how fast it was flowing. I can see his face clear as day and how it unfolded on the tv.

This song is about L. Bud Dwyer. He murked himself on live TV. He was a politician who was accused of corruption. I think he may have done it to protect his workers and take all the blame.

I knew of the Bud Dwyer suicide for years and I knew this song since it first came out but I didn't know the connection until recently. Now people are going to go watch it. PS: from what I have read I think he was Guilty of those charges.

This song is about the most horrific shit ever. Politician commits suicide by shooting himself in the mouth on live news camera

Dwyer shot only himself. He didn’t aim at, shoot at, or threaten anybody else with the gun. I doubt you can find the uncensored video on KZbin but it’s definitely on the web.

many songs are about the times they were popular of course. Also, lots of metaphors in the past today everything is just literal. For example, today you say "she was born rich", but in older generations it was "she came in through the bathroom window, protected by a silver spoon". There was much more poetry in the music from the past that is totally missing today.

SABATON - GHOST DIVISION You will never understand the true raw energy and power Sabaton has and is able to induce to a crowd until you watch the live video of “Ghost Division” at Woodstock in Poland back in 2012 where they brought a crowd of over 650.000 Europeans, including Polish and French, to jam their heads in circles to a song about the 7th German Panzer division.
