Father fish, in your description it says you kept fish for 70 years. I wonder how you got started? Did you start with fish in an aquarium or a pond setup? Or something else? I got my first „fish“ 22 years ago- crustaceans as I found out later - at the age of 6 and I grew up next to a lake. My dad ran a fish restaurant and my grandpa and brothers were all fishermen. So for me it was natural to breed fish, frogs, turtles, crustaceans, birds, lizards, etc.. Was it the same for you? And even more interesting: How was the aquarium Hobby perceived by other people when you started? Greetings from your biggest fan in Germany 🇩🇪 Etienne 🐟

I like how you have jetting water flowing throughout your 200 gal tank. I am sure that helps to get rid of film that forms when there is no surface agitation. Also I like that the jetting is not super powerful and it is just a like a stream coming out.

Ah... I see, Father fish sirculate the water too with pumps, but the main goal in the filtering (as he said) the deep bioactive soil, each of the aquariums have it. Which tanks he have more fish like the optimal, where have a second filtering system (other aquariums, or barrels with more bioactive space), Magnificent....

Hi Father Fish! Thanks for your videos. I’m hooked to try natural, dirted tank. One question though about filtration, I have a 55 gallon tank laying around and thinking to use it. how do you calculate flow rate of the pump? I’m thinking maybe HOB or canister. Do you follow the manufacturer recommendation or you have your own formula?
@FatherFish

The only real issue is flow, not enough to whip the plants around.

So do you add fresh new water to the systems as it evaporates? Do you add fresh new water every so often to maintain water stability (kh)? I understand nitrates are not an issue as the sand should filter it out correct? I was just curious about fresh water

I know this is 2 years old and you probably won't see it... that's fine. I really like this, however I am a home fish keeper and don't have a system like this. I do use RO for my freshwater fish and add minerals (Equilibrium) because I can't keep my PH at 7 otherwise. We have well water which is very hard and full of iron and other heavy metals. I still use CO2 for my plants, and it seems to be fairly balanced, but not sure how a homeowner would keep a balanced aquarium otherwise. (I've switched to deep substrate and sponge filter, which is kinda working.)
@FatherFish

@Good13man
@Good13man 9 ай бұрын
@@FatherFish YES! Per your advice, one of my aquariums has ~3.5in substrate. First half, not dirt, but a combo of some expensive stuff... Then capped with a solid 1-2 IN of sand! I like the results so far, but my plants are struggling a little bit... I've given root tabs and water column nutrients. I have duckweed as a floating plant (doing well)... I haven't added tree leaves yet, but thinking about it . I have the aq. stocked with 4x corys and 4x red platys. It's a 25g aq. I have it planted with several plants. It's doing okay, but not great. Want to take it to the next level.
