I completely agree. I understand the pathology of a mental illness encroaching on your environment, but even the most affected can be taught and supervised to clean up and maintain. I am beyond shocked and more than a bit angry at the teenage daughters who seem to think it's just mom's job to tidy up where they live. They live like pigs, but I think pigs are cleaner. This family is all smiles, so I really don't understand trying to hide behind "I'm depressed". BS. I have Multiple Sclerosis which has put me into a wheelchair. I still live in a clean house, two beds, two baths, and I have two cats. They have a clean little window seat where they can lounge on a sunny window, lots of toys and two always clean litter pans. I have a full kitchen, living room, and a sunny plant-filled porch and not a bit of dirt. I prefer to live as a human being, not rutting in my filth, neglecting my home and my animals so that we need to be bailed out with an extreme cleaning haz-mat team. This family is disgusting. I wonder how long she will have her university job once she makes the airwaves. If a 73 year old woman who can't walk and doesn't have cleaning help can maintain a lovely home, so can that obese and lazy woman and two healthy teenagers. This is lazy. There's just no excuse for living like a pig. NONE. I suspect this is a council flat, what Americans call subsidized or income adjusted housing, i.e., they are not ever going to have to pay their fair share for housing. I would support them being served with an eviction, because I suspect they can all live quite well under a bridge! If that sounds cruel, too bad. I'd love to walk again; but I can. Still, I am clean. That pig of a woman and those two lazy kids waddle through filth and think they are entitled to help? Please. My opinion.

If the mom isn't modeling/demonstrating those habits, they're not going to develop them innately. Some children will learn it for themselves (out of pure necessity or resentment), but many grow up to do just as they were shown by their parents.

Take them out to lunch, a movie, a weekend vacation. Takes lots of pictures (easy to do these days) She said that her kids now have a lifetime of memories. The occasional toy, object is great but make it really meaningful. Don't clutter up their lives with stuff that they are going to feel guilty about throwing out.

Children learn from what their parents model for them. If parents are unable to create a clean environment around them, the children will initially adopt the same behavior. Therefore, it’s completely absurd to claim that one has taught their children how to be tidy just because they themselves are tidy. Additionally, even children with very clean parents can tend to develop hoarding behavior, especially when the parents constantly clean around the children and the children don't have to participate.

Does this show not understand that hoarding is a mental health condition? It was once thought that hoarding was a type of OCD, but since 2015 it has been classified as a disorder of its own, a unique mental health problem. Unfortunate title for this video; it predisposes viewers to judge in terms of "laziness" vs. illness. Prolonged depression can also cause a person to feel exhausted and take away any motivation to act. Shame or guilt or dread of exposure gets in the way of asking for help.

One lady lost her stuff in a Fire, while another Lady admitted she bought alot of clothes to make up for what she didn't have growing up. Also look at Kim & Aggie, they worked with a Bachelor who was a Mama's Boy and may have had a slight case of Asbergers's. On Saturday I clean my house with My Mother like nobody's business. I just spent 22 hours every day for 14 days cleaning a smokers home. Each ceiling fan took me 8 hours to scrub the one inch of STICKY DUST off the blades and SOS PADS to get the STICKY SLUDGE off of the bulb covers. My shoulders are torn, swollen hands with pins and needles for the last 3 days from scrubbing the walls, baseboards, closet mirrors, bathroom mirror and all my boxes in thee back room covered with one inch of dust because there is a large hole where the air conditioning unit is and doggie door melted 30 years ago so the flap does not cover the large hold in the door which is the room where all my possessions are. @Snookscat4 ай бұрын
True, but I think that at the teen’s age, she’s getting a bit past room-sharing. Teens need some space of their own for privacy. If both girls’ belongings were together with two beds or a bunk bed, multiple dressers, half a small closet each…it would again become crowded and non-functional in short order. They already gave up probably about 50-75% of their belongings and have what is most important to them. Now ask them to get rid of more? If there are any (normal) sibling or family disagreements, everyone has their own calm space to retreat to. Now, the girls can put a mattress or sleeping mat/bag on the floor to have a friend sleep over for a night. If they’re in the same room, that becomes impossible. In a few years if the oldest daughter moves out, Mom will get her own space back. When the kids are at school during the day, Mom has privacy. When they are sleeping at night, Mom has privacy. When the girls want to hang out in their rooms, Mom has privacy, or if Mom needs her bedroom space, there’s somewhere to shoo the kids to. When everyone is out scouting, they’re out. When they do have time to be together, they have the living room and kitchen to enjoy together. Personally, I wouldn’t mind this setup if I were in the same circumstance. It’s now way better than before and all three will be better able to maintain it. This will also go a long way towards lifting depression, as will having people over, and feeling “normal” again. I hope they’re all healthy and happy now and in the future. 😊

Teaching children to put things away after you use them, keeping clean, and being even sort of organized should be taught from the time they can walk! If these people, most are overweight I am too, would get up, move and clean their house everyday, they wouldn't have time or energy to be depressed. I know these 3 old farmer guys in my area. They grew up together and all are in their 90 s and still farming!! I recently asked one of them what keeps them going, motivated, and healthy. I think they should revisit this family in 6 mo down the road to see if they are keeping the place clean & organized, I have a feeling it will be right back to where it was, I highly doubt the kids learned ANYTHING from just watching someone ELSE clean up their messes, the youngest should NOT be Allowed to be writing on walls, & should be taught to know better, You would THINK Mom would have Stopped her from doing that, Plus both of these girls should have been taught HOW to keep their rooms clean & Organized, But, I doubt that will ever happen unless they Want it to!

I don’t think it’s laziness, but a mental illness that makes everything overwhelming. And the kids never learned to clean. It’s sad really. What this family needs is help, not criticism.

Mom may be depressed but those girls have unfortunately followed her example… hope the clean up will motivate them to keep up the new status of their home, they’re really not used to tidying and cleaning up! I hope mom got some help and control on her depression🙏🏻

Depression is not being too lazy. I completely disagree with people whos judging anyone struggling with daily tasks. Have they ever lived bad situation? Were they ever in a bad position? Everything seems to be a mountain when you have mental disease. The person who put that title is not kind, not compassionate and it's not creating a safe space for anyone in needs of help! Because of that, they will be too afraid to ask for help. Shame on you! I didn't finish the video just because of that.

Mom is overwhelmed by everything. She needs small steps-put away 20 things each day, clean only the 2 tub faucets, bag 20 pieces of clothes to give to a thrift store. A million things to do but she has to start somewhere.

It's not helpful to shame and judge this family when the hosts were watching the pre-cleaning video. Her family members that showed up to "help" were pretty condescending, too. She's not lazy. She's suffering a mental health crisis. And, BTW, Witch Hazel used to clean a flat screen TV with damage the screen. It's better to use a damp cloth to dust it off.

Yeah, unfortunately, that part of the world's education system is pretty subpar. This is also why there's a lot of ignorant comments in the comment section. Some cultures breed a lack of curiousity and critical thinking. In its place are just judgemental assumptions. Condescending people are unaware of the complex science behind mental illness and assume everything is super simple and straightforward. But if it was super simple, then there wouldn't ever be a problem.

Please don't call these people lazy. This is a symptom of depression. And possibly ADHD. It must be treated with a professional. It can become so overwhelming and discouraging for others. I know all about that. I live with parents who have one room that is hideous. I do my best to clean my bathroom and tidy my bedroom. I've been challenged by depression and anxiety. ADHD. She needs help.

It's bad that this woman is living this way but what is super bad is that her daughters are being taught, by example, that this is an acceptable way to live. I wonder if they will EVER learn there is a better way to live.

People being so judgmental in the comments, no need for it, they got the help they needed and I’m sure the girls will help because they have a looked at what the house looks like when it’s clean and I’m sure they prefer it that way💕 they haven’t hade a good example for over 4 years on how to keep clean but this is a good start.

This is actually a roomy apartment when the clutter is gone. Too many stuffed animals and beauty products. Consolidate the shampoos, and conditioners. Too many partial bottles. Get a good Dow spray Scrbbing Bubbles around the fixtures and all through the bath. Leave it sit 10 minutes. I JUST got rid of the last stuffed animals 🧸, to my grand-niece, age 3. She loved them. One day in high school my daughter detestedly said, “Get rid of these!!” And so I did, except the ones I liked...❤️. I’m using Witch Hazel on my car dash!

Sometimes it can be. I went through a depressive stage and did not clean my apartment for a few months. Thankfully I was able to get out of that stage and not let it go on for years. I know the difference when I'm lazy vs feeling depressed and overwhelmed to do anything. Everyone struggles differently

A 10 year old shouldnt have to literally clean the messes the mom has made a decade ago. If she was already struggling with cleaning with her first kid, she shouldnt have gotten a second one. And i dont know where the dad is, but if he's still alive he should be held accountable as well.

Maybe not the daughters . Their mom is the hoarder , hopefully it hasn’t ingrained into the daughters yet. My mom is a hoarder and when growing up she would never let us get rid of anything . She would even check big garbage bags if we took them out, thinking we were hiding stuff in them. The girls see it clean now and will want to keep it nice

This living room did not turn out well. put the pull out bed on the wall by the kitchen. Then she needs an armoir for her clothes, not those plastic containers that don't match anything. An armoir like you use in a dorm are not that expensive. Put it to the left as you enter the room. All the "art" needs to go into the kitchen or the girl's rooms. Buy a big blank canvas and a few paints and as a family, make an abstract painting and put that on the wall that you see as you come into the room. At the far end of the room make a love seat, two chair/bean bag area with desk and ottoman. The set up they made is ugly and half a couch is not going to work. She's a single mom, she can't afford to buy new furniture guys. Not good.
@monaeallsup614012 күн бұрын
you start with a room, lots of trash bags to put everything in, wash the ceiling, walls and floor. Then move on to the next room and repeat. It helps with depression and cleaning does help make you feel better but you have to start somewhere.
