I came thiiiiis close to picking this up, it's so cheap on BG. Glad you're covering this, Gz, looks like my Ranger is gonna have a VTOL hangar-mate.

Those spare bits of foam look like motor nacells for converting it to a standard twin plane

Agree, seems like a weird thing to do but that’s what they look like.

Thanks for the review mate! The rear motor is definitely intended to be canted over to make yaw more stable. It's also a fairly common setup on the T1 to have the rear motor slight canted to one side.

Nice review. Thanks for filling in the gaps in documentation. For a VTOL, the default setup is pretty good, and appears to be good value. Most VTOLs then be have premium pricing. It does have in interesting an unique look. Wondering if the dumbbell foam piece (4:20) is meant to alternative camera mounting plugs for the nose, or maybe meant to help secure a battery in place? (I'm guessing)
@gizfpv Жыл бұрын
I think actually the dumbell piece of foam is designed to be cut into 2, to create 2 motor mounts. It's for people who want to convert there manta into a generic twin tractor wing.......i think? lol

I've decided on this platform for my first vtol and I found the skydroid c12 which is the cheapest thermal / 2k hybrid cam I could find, but it may be too big for this thing, not sure. it's 86 x 62 x 65mm and 117g, and it does tracking and so on. I want to run a pi zero + pxf mini for the AI and need to figure out an aio esc that I can edit the esc parameters to voltage cap them, so that I can run 6s and get longer flight times if that's how that would work. I'm also considering trying IR-dock but that may be super difficult with wind blowing everywhere as the chassis is a gigantic sail instead of thin tubes.

I would be interested in knowing what the Auw is with battery. This thing looks like it could be a sub 250 g but with the battery they are recommending it probably goes over that limit I would assume. Depending on how you like it, will you be 3-D printing replacement nacelle covers? I am looking forward to your part 2. Will be interested in comparison to the heewing vtol. Thanks😊

Nice review! Just finished building mine. Would it be possible to get the stl file for your vtx mount? Looks like a neat and simple solution to mount Walksnail.

Hi. You describe this as 'PNP' and then go on to talk about soldering various wires to connect various bits and pieces. I'm not interested in FPV or computer programming, my question is, can I assemble this model, add a spektrum receiver and battery and go flying?

Hi, just been building it, the servos that control the motors extend to the bottom when on the bench for normal flight mode unarmed with no props, yet when i arm it and the motors are spinning and put the throttle to above mid point to switch it into normal flight mode the the servo motors do not extend all the way to the bottom and remain at about a 40 degree angle? not flown it yet but this does not seem normal?
@gizfpv Жыл бұрын
No that doesn't sound normal. What you probably need to do is reverse the servos on mission planner
@quadthingcopter5984 Жыл бұрын
@@gizfpv Thanks for the reply, that just reverses the servos, that is not the problem, if you don't mind can you take the props off yours and try try changing the modes with the motors spinning to see if yours motor servos only have as much travel as mine have. Thanks.
@gizfpv Жыл бұрын
@@quadthingcopter5984 sorry, I think I misunderstood your previous message. Do you mean that when doing testing (with the aircraft connected to the computer) that the motors move up and down normally, but when you do a test by arming the aircraft the motors only move forward a little bit? If so, that is normal Basically when you ask the aircraft to transition from vtol mode to fixed wing mode, it won't just do it instantly - if it did the aircraft would probably fall out the sky. Instead when you ask it to transition what it does at first is pitch the motors forward a bit, so the the aircraft gains some forward momentum. Once the aircraft has reached a target forward speed (at which point the wings are creating lift) the motors will then move forward fully, and at the same time the tail motor will stop spinning too However, with the default settings there is a built in 'time out' for the transition, which I think is 10 seconds (might be more). After this time, regardless of whether the aircraft has achieved the target speed or not, the motors will move fully forward. You may be able to test that yourself on the bench, however Ardupilot trys to be clever and sometimes it won't play ball if it detects the aircraft isn't actually moving lol Either way, the servo/motor movement you're seeing sounds normal 😊
@quadthingcopter5984 Жыл бұрын
@@gizfpv yes I think you understand me now, well thanks for the reply, I know the transition was slow but needed to know that the motors would sit horizontal, that has put my mind at rest as did not want to test it before I had some understanding! Cheers, by the way the GPS module is rubbish, think I'll have to change it

@@gizfpv Hi. Just tested the manta line of sight, took off in hover mode got the throttle up to more than half throttle flicked it into forward flight mode and the servos still did not fully extend, let it fly around for over 30 seconds like that with the throttle up and no change .also the GPS refused to get any satellites before I took off and the 4s lithium ion 20amp battery I was using was very hot when I landed I think 6inch props on a 4s battery with 2700kv motors may be a bit too much for the battery.

I need help in making a decision, paying 260EUR for this VTOL, or converting a T1 to a VTOL with 100EUR?☺
@gizfpv Жыл бұрын
So I've had a few days to do some more flights with the manta, and I think I'd say that the HeeWing T1 is certainly a better quality aircraft, however the Manta for some reason is just more fun 😊

Don't glue it together because if you ever want to make your own VTOL plane out of the electronics you are going to regret it cutting wires and body parts.
