Watched the movie and cried over the cruelty towards the slaves. Love this song to as I'm white and have black in laws whom I love very dearly.

Bring tears to my eyes listening to the powerful and sublime song. The film itself represents what happened to George Floyd.

Great singing and playing. But I hate the stick hitting the side of the drums.

You weren't even born when this movie hit the theaters in 1997, schmendrick. The sticks are the prominent instrument played at the end of the movie.

It's a perfectly legitimate percussion effect.
@esthergagne51953 жыл бұрын
This percussion is called a rute (German for 'rod'), and I suspect John Williams' intention was to evoke both the slaver's whip and exotic percussion, which I find quite appropriate here.

In 1839 the ship Amistad illegally brought captured Africans as slaves to America. America would soon be plunged into what is now called the American Civil war in 1861. Slavery was the issue. Many Americans would die deciding the issue. One Battle, Gettysburg which is also a movie, Union Col Chamberlain addresses his men before the fight. "This is a different kind of army. If you look back at history, you will see men fight for pay, for woman or some other kind of loot. They fought for land, power, because a king leads them-- or because they like killing. But we are here for something new. This has not happened much in history of the world. We are an army out to set other men free."

A great song. But a song about Africa, but not 1 single black child in the chorus...🤔🤔🤔
