As a native of Reston, Virginia, who has lived in Vegas for 18 of my 20 years, this was the most magical season of sports I have ever been blessed to witness. Watching this even now, none of this feels real. MY team, my Capitals, finally, FINALLY, getting it done. A team from my home even existing, much less playing for the greatest trophy in sports. And the two of them playing against each other. If this was a movie it would be completely stupid and non-believable. And yet.... it still makes me cry every single time. What a wonderful moment to be alive. Being exhausted but faithful as a Caps fan and finding catharsis as a Knights fan, seeing a game live for the first time, earlier in the evening on October 1st (I swear to god I’m not lying to you), then witnessing the history the Knights made in and out of the Fortress, and quietly watching my Caps do what they’ve always done, and slip behind two games to Columbus, and literally (sadly) saying the words “well, that’s it for us..” while the Knights did the unbelievable, and then, Kuzy scoring in overtime to FINALLY beat the goddamn Penguins, and suddenly everything became a dream. The watch parties in 80+ degree weather watching my home team do things even the Caps had never done in my lifetime (until a few days later anyway), I suddenly believed. And then, the joke we had made all season (“ha ha, whAt iF tHE kNiGHts pLayed tHe cAPs In tHe fInAL?!”) became a reality. Five games later, everything I had ever dreamed of became true. Not a moment in there that I’ll ever forget. Most of all, I won’t forget embracing my mother in front of the TV, as Doc said the slightly underwhelming words “the capital of the country is the capital of the hockey playoffs!!” Absolutely surreal. Sorry for this long and pointless story, but it still just doesn’t seem real. It’s been the most amazing whirlwind of a sports season, school year, or calendar year, that I can personally remember. And I sure as hell will never forget it. And I hope there’s a few of you reading this who can relate... and maybe you’ll see this a few years from now and relive all of it again with me. Rock The Red and Go Knights Go!!!! Always.

I think this was the most tense Cup Clincher I've ever watched! The raw emotion emanating from Ovi and his Capitals, and the pure excitement coming from Vegas, who had a chance to win it all in their very first year! Just when it couldn't get anymore tense, the arena clock went kaput. The entire hockey world held their breath. Will controversy prevail and Vegas ties and wins the game, ultimately prolonging the series, or will years of hardship and upsets at last come to an end for Ovechkin and the Capitals fanbase? The rest is history, with one of the best cup hoistings I've ever seen.

Do you think the broken scoreboard was to try to give the knights a little extra time?
@Allfath3r6 жыл бұрын
No, it was a mistake made by the clock operator in the arena. Someone on Reddit timed it themselves and apparently the time they set it to after they fixed the clock was correct.
@DAK4Blizzard6 жыл бұрын
To me, there was about 1.6 seconds too much on the clock. I ran a countdown clock showing tenths of a second. I started it at 1m50s because when the icing occurred the clock had just hit 1m49s, implying around 1m49.8s remaining. I started the countdown as soon as the puck hit the ice at 2:04 of the video. So at the start, I was being generous by about a quarter second. But that's not a big deal, as I assume the clock operator can't perfectly sync the clock with the whistles and with the drop of the puck. What's a bigger deal is that when the Caps are called for icing at 3:27 of the video, I stopped my countdown with 27 seconds flat left. Normally I wouldn't care so much, as the clock problems did enable the Caps an artificial break following the icing. What's a big deal to me is, when the Caps ice the puck in the dying seconds, the whistle is blown with, almost incredibly, 1.6 seconds left on the clock. (The clock operator, though understandably delayed in halting the clock, still shouldn't have allowed a full second to come off the clock to bring it down to only 0.6 seconds.) In other words, the game should've been over when the Caps iced it. Oh well.
@FreshTillDeath566 жыл бұрын
Nah. The clock was close enough, and it was a good game. Must have been an honest mistake on the operator's part.

And Ovechkin could be one of those 'untouchable' elite players who always cry for calls to go their way and etc, but he isn't. It’s bigger than him winning; his teammates really love him and have love for him. It’s rare. It’s what Gretzky had with his fans but never his teammates. Ovechkin, is gr8. 8.

The fact that the Vegas fans stayed for the cup presentation, proves that Las Vegas, is officially a "Hockey city!"

No doubt. I saw a game there in 2019 when I was visiting Vegas and it was an awesome fan experience. As for the Cup ceremony though, for any true hockey fan, it's special to see, regardless of who wins it. It's history... and if I was a Vegas fan I would've regretted it if I walked out without seeing one of the best Cup raisings ever.

3:42 I really wished Backstrom scored that empty-netter to really put the dagger into the hearts of the Vegas Golden Bettmans.

From the time Eller knocked in the go ahead goal at 7:37, then the clock issue, all the icings, and Backstrom missing the wide open net, I don't think I took a breath. Go CAPS!

Even though im a huge redwing fan, i couldn't be more happy for alex ovehkine( not sure i spelled his name right lol) he worked so hard for that cup, as well as everyone does but i dont think iv ever seen someone who wanted it more then he did and he showed every emotion on his face plus not to mention all those years were they just couldent get to the conference finals and even i was heart broken for him. Just glad he never played the redwings cause i would be sad for him but be hella happy for those DETROIT REDWINGS when they would have beaten them. But i dont think iv ever been this happy for a player and his team but mostly happy for Alex. WELL DONE ALEX YOU SOOO DESERVE IT, just please dont play the wings in any playoff series especially in the finals but this is hard to say, i really dont think the redwings will be goin to the playoffs for a wial but u never know. And no matter what team your a fan of, your second favorite team has to be the Washington Capitals cause come on they play for the state were are nation's capital is at. Then u got one of the most gifted players if not the best player in the league. Plus like i said the one player who deserved the cup the most in my opinion.

I remember losing my MIND when the clock malfunctioned. Go figure when it's less than a minute until my team wins the big one, close game, THAT'S when something like that happens 😂

What's also interesting is that this is the first time the Capitals have beaten Fleury in a playoff series.
