The clear difference between the two teams is that the right side was singing the notes and trying to make sure it all sounded orchestral and big. The team on the left was singing with emotion. Not just with their vocals but with their heart and you could feel it and that's what music is meant to do is evoke emotion in the listener.

okay. okay. okay. i think this is the most amazing thing i have ever heard. the left: wow. so much soul. so much power. EVERY soloist nailed it. i felt moved. i felt chills. i cannot express how this makes me feel!!! right: obviously all classically trained, and probably wouldn’t sound as awkward if they were singing something from, like, annie. or something. i think they have technique down, but it just didn’t have any soul. it’s clear who the winners were.. but honestly this is an amazing arrangement and very pleasing to the ear.
