I love the respect they give each other. even when he says that they aren't strong enough for him to use both weapons. They don't take it as an insult, they all acknowledge that he has them outclassed. I really like that whole scene.

Yep. The mere act of Cocytus requesting their names is by itself a tremendous show of respect from him, as one warrior requesting the name of another in battle is the highest form of respect they can offer (and *refusing* such a request is considered a *massive* insult) as it indicates that they believe them to be a worthy enough opponent that their name is worth remembering. And that isn't the only show of respect Cocytus gave them here either. Notice how just before he kills Zaryusu, he takes a single step back? That was a conscious display of respect as well, as prior to that act, Cocytus had never once been forced to give ground in battle, but his admiration and respect for the brothers here compelled him to concede that inch of ground, and in so doing he granted the brothers the honor of being the first warriors to ever "force" Cocytus to concede ground.

Not just that, Cocytus, in all of his time as a Floor Guardian of Nazarick had never once given ground in combat. That one step back before he killed Zaryusu? That was a conscious show of respect from him. The brother's final attack struck his sense of honor so much and increased the already considerable respect he had for them enough that he consciously chose to concede that inch of ground to the brothers despite the fact that it never would have done any actual damage to him. That by itself was as much of a gesture of respect from Cocytus as his overt praise of them and him requesting for their names. It is also why he actively requested that Ainz resurrect Shasuryu and Zaryusu, his respect for them was so great that he tried to honor them by advocating that Ainz resurrect them as they would be more valuable as living followers than as mindless undead. And this is a request that Ainz ultimately granted, even going so far as to resurrect *all* of the lizardmen Chiefs who fell in battle against Cocytus....and action which ultimately led to the lizardmen choosing to worship Ainz as a god and made them fanatically loyal to him.

In a way, Ainz is acting like a sort of "father" to the residents of Nazarick by trying to teach them to think for themselves and make their own decisions, while also trying to instill in them an awareness that overall power isn't everything, sometimes even "weaklings" can still make a distinct impact. Ainz seems to view the NPCs of Nazarick as one might view their children (which also explains why he was sou furious over Shalltear getting mind-controlled and Entoma nearly being killed by Blue Rose, both of them are like his own children, and in those two instances he very nearly lost them).

2:24 Cocytus didn't need to move his foot there. The reason he done so is a sign of immense respect. What it was basically showing was that despite the lizard man literally facing an unstoppable force, they still at least managed to make it take one step back, even if it was out of respect.

Its only new to them, as far as the wolrd goes, those people have been living generations in that world, true we dont know how long exactly but its at least almost 50 years or so cuz the chief warrior(cant spell his name lol) grew up in that world as far as we know. There could be a difference in power because they use real life mechanics rather then the video game mechanics used in the game where its probably easier to do things i.e. level up cuz it was a game.

For those of you who haven't read the Light Novel, what happened there was that the lizardman slicked his sword with his own blood so that it would slip through Cocytus' grasp. The other lizardman provided as a distraction and sacrificed his life so that their plan would work. Truly Magnificent.

If you had any idea what you're talking about, you'd know that Cocytus petitioned to let them live, and made sure to make them look good in their final moments. Also its hilariously ironic that you're looking to scripted material for a 'surprise'. There's always a winner pre written. The first season of Overlord was intentionally a MMO character power fantasy. The spectacle was how powerful the characters are. Season two doubled down on world building, you're supposed to be enjoying the world the story is placed in, more than the fights. If you need an action packed fight between two evenly matched characters for 'dramatic tension' then you're deluding yourself into thinking you've ever gotten that before at all.

I've never seen a one-sided fight, where I had so much respect for both parties involved. I also love the Ost here... And the fact that it's called: "There is no defeat for us lizardmen". Never giving up, even when facing certain death. And while he only addressed the brothers it has to be mentioned that all of the others also never stopped trying or showed signs of fear before they died. Also the lizards might have lost this battle but in the end they've won so much more. They've faced peril and extinction, and came out of it unified, with a powerful ally and cocytus as their combat trainer.

This isn't really a fair judgement, the Lizard men knew there wasn't the option to run away, the warning made it clear they would all either fight or all die. While the soldiers have places they can run to and even if the kingdom they serve falls they can still live a relatively normal life. Fighting to the bitter end is a lot easier when it's your only option.

I get such Hawkeye Mihawk vibes from Cocytus, a truly honorable swordsman and warrior. And the only guardian that doesnt look down on fighters simply because they are weaker. He shows respect for a warriors spirit, regardless of their strength, even taking that unnecessary step backwards so as to fully face forward before cutting down Zaryusu.

That step was so much more than just facing forward out of respect. Cocytus had previously stated that no enemy had ever made him concede ground. Not a single battle had ever forced him to take even a single step backward. That step was the highest honor Cocytus could give. Though the two brothers were so insurmountably outclassed, they were the first, and so far the ONLY, opponents that Cocytus has ever given ground to!

I think you mean 100% of this world. The people of the New World have stated at least a couple times that no human is able to cast higher than 6th tier magic. Anybody who's managed to do otherwise has had to rely on the use of magical items in order to achieve the desired effect. In the story, The Ains Ool Gown Guild actually had most of their members spend so much money on the game that their friends and family began to worry and even hate them, risking their rent and food money for Yggdrasil. And Momonga just took all of what the Guild left over collectively from years of gameplay and excessive in-game purchases and used it in a world that has no micro transactions. Had I known any of this as one of the scrubs in this world, I too would get salty and rip on Momonga for being a filthy cash-flashing game cheating whale before getting obliterated in a second.

This anime is definitely my favorite, Usually it's always about the power of friendship overcomes all, this one however has nothing to do with that, I just enjoy how ainz is pure logic, doesnt really matter what he does with his logic. I also love mob psycho for the exact same reason, mob is a really logical person who doesn't get overcome by his emotions (sometimes lol), thankfully he was able to handle emotions better by season 2 by you guessed it, friendship.
