IM just a 7th grader who loves watching your videos so I don't know if my input is good but when I was in 5th grade my teacher had a smaller classroom so there was barely any room for her library. so what she did was she had a clipboard with this sheet that allowed you to check in a book. YOu would write your name, the book your getting, the date, and what you are borrowing it for. then you would take this bookmark that said "I CHECKED OUT THIS BOOK" at the end of the day she would check all our books inside our desks to see if they had that special bookmark. Then she would double-check to see if each student that had a bookmark had written their names on the sheet. After 2 weeks (I think) all books would be returned then you sign out on the sheet at the library. If you needed more time t finished the book you would just ask the teacher. So yea that's what my 5th-grade teacher did hope this is helpful. love the classroom btw.😁

It's interesting to see how other schools are changing due to corona. I am a 3rd-grade ELAR teacher and our classes were cut down because all desks had to be 6 ft apart. I am going to have students browse titles from my library online or in a hanging shoe holder and then they check it out online. When they are done they will drop it in my book bin which is a trashcan with a swinging lid. Then I'll quarantine them in a plastic tub on Friday's and bring the books back out on the following Wednesday.

Maybe like a library where they checkout the books online and you will have them for them the next day. You can have a turn in cart where you sanitize the books.

I love the room! You put so much time and effort into it, and it shows. Your excitement for school is rubbing off on me, and I’m excited to see your first week back vlogs. Do you go back tomorrow (August 31)? Many schools in SE Michigan are going back tomorrow, which feels so soon. I start an online class, and my asynchronous classes start Tuesday. I’m bummed I can’t go back on campus but understand. Have a great week Kim 💛

Oooh! That’s a good idea! Have you ever been to a trailer or mobile classroom at your school of any that you were a kid at or been to before? The best part of being in a trailer, is that you can set the thermostat to what you and your kids want, while the bad part, you have to walk outside in the rain throughout the day.

A virtual library would be so cool but with that many books would be a big job... They could look at the covers and check out a book without having to be in front of them and touch them all.

thought for the library... start with the row nearest it, let them pick books on way out to break (or front row first on way back in)

Have you ever tried to use masking tape? It is a little bit pricier that scotch tape but it doesn’t damage surfaces, leave a sticky residue, and it works a little stronger.

I'm assigning each student a day of the week to check out books in the morning. My school has some guidelines for using the library. So if Wednesday was their day, on that morning they would sanitize their hands, return their books from the previous week to the "book quarantine" bin and then select three new books for the week. It's not how I would typically do it but it works for this unique situation.

Hi I was wondering where you’d recommend getting books for my classroom library, I’m a first year 3rd grade teacher and don’t really know where to get books on a budget. I love that you have so many!
@spencerreece74373 жыл бұрын
Highly recommend thrift shopping and Facebook market place. I have gotten so many picture books for free or like 10$ for boxes of them since people try to get rid of them and are willing to help out a teacher :)

Beautiful job! I would move the double student desk maybe move the extra to your storage rooms. Any extra room you could have in that room is helpful. Poor kids this is a rough year.

What if you made the desks you won’t need for the start of the year the spot in front of the bookshelves so they wouldn’t have kiddos there

Yes! You've done it!! The room looks AWESOME!!! And I know that you do not think that your door looks like the book cover, but I believe that it is looking extremely close. I am sure that I am not the only one who feels that way. I look forward to seeing the final results! By the way, you are not the only one who has stayed in their classroom for an outrageous amount of time. I have been there, and done that. Although, I do believe that you beat my record! LOL!!! I think that my latest time was after midnight! Hey...what can I say! You gotta do what ya gotta do!!!

I also have a huge classroom library and uploaded them all on booksource. My kiddos are 1 to 1 so they can book shop on there and search topics/genres. I am just going to have them check the book out on there and I will get it for them from the shelf!
