I've been following along with your journey for a few years now. I recently graduated in November and was fortunate enough to get a long-term substitute position in a first grade classroom. The experience was challenging to put it mildly. I learned so much and I am so appreciative of the opportunity but it was difficult. So I had to take a step back from watching teachertube during the months of the school year. The last few days I have been catching up with your videos. It has been refreshing and a great reminder of why I want to teach! So thank you for being a bright light and helping me gain some of my confidence back! I also want to say congratulations on the grade change! I know how much you have wanted this change and I am excited to continue to follow along and see this next chapter of your journey! 🧡🧡

When I taught second grade, I had a board that just said “Second Grade Rocks!”… I took a class picture on the first day of school, printed an 8x10 of it, and put it in the middle of the board. As the year progressed, I printed pictures I took and put them all around our class picture. The kids loved looking at the collage grow throughout the year!

I had a bulletin board like that by my desk too! I made it into the “Wall of Art” and I pinned up anything my students made or drew for me!

I had a bulletin board like that by my desk. I put my name in large letters across the top (so the kids had a reference to spell it), a copy of the class list (with some scrapbook paper behind it to frame it), a sheet with phone numbers for other classrooms (also "framed"), some positive sayings (some framed or on plaques), a calendar-- just kind of a cute, "feel good" spot with mostly black, white, and red which were our district colors. The part that was closer to the whiteboard (that the kids could see better) I had some "Our class is..." statements. Retired now, but I always got excited about classroom setup 😊. One of the other 2nd grade teachers on my team would use that 2 balloon (like the one you bought) in the hall on "meet the teacher night" and the first day of school to help her kids find her room.

I'm jealous of all that space by the door! The closet, bathroom, sink, shelves! Amazing!

I’ve had teachers who have had their personal things on the bulletin board by their desk. Like their name, pictures, things gifted to them from students, etc. one of my teachers we referred to it as “the wall” and it was a huge deal as a student if your picture/gift to the teacher made “the wall.” It honestly looked really cool.

My face when you said your room wasn't big.😳🥴 My classroom is extremely small. It's not even half your class size, but it works. Looking forward to seeing your class set up videos.

Also idea for blank board: morning meeting wall! I always ask my kids a question of the day that covers social emotional learning (emotion, friendship, etc) and/or something that ties with our essential question for the week (Wonders). We have a calendar, clock, and play money that we will add onto our wall to just practice a few minutes before I start lessons for the day.

I don't know if you have anything like this in your classroom yet, but one of the teachers I subbed for was a 2nd grade teacher and had a birthday bulletin by her desk! The students always got so excited to see their names there and to be able to see which friend's birthday was coming up! :)

I usually use space near my desk to post things like the district calendar, guidance schedule, and class list. It ends up being kind of like a teachers resource bulletin board. It helps me stay organized so I think you might like it as well.

Hi Kim! So excited for your year in 2nd grade! I just love your videos, you have been inspiring me for years! You have such a sweet heart! Just a friendly recommendation from a veteran teacher; I wouldn't turn that corner into a reading nook! I know it would be awesome, however, the student or students that are in there would be out of your view. We did a training once from CPS and they said a student should never be out of a teacher's view, and I will never forget that. I would block it off with a bookshelf. Just a piece of advice from a veteran teacher. Its for student safety and your safety incase something were to happen. Hope this helps. Cant wait to see classroom setup and watch your journey in 2nd grade. Hugs!

I have been teaching 2nd grade for 11 years, so I'm excited to see your classroom set up! Are you going to make a bulletin board for Math, Science and Social Studies? My students love to reference these focus walls as we are learning the concepts. Love the wonder wall idea too! Can't wait to see how it all turns out!

You should use border to split that section of your boards. One half could be your personal space...tgat letter H and wall art would be great there. The right half would be great for learning targets .

You could use the bulletin board by your desk as sort of a command station for yourself. Also, you could split it up and use the other portion to post birthdays, jobs, etc.

Can't wait to see your setup in the final stages! I am SUPER HAPPY that you are going into 2nd grade. I just accepted my first position as a 4th grade teacher. I was offered Kinder as well, but the vibe and support didn't feel right in my gut. I am hoping to move down & hopefully landing on 2nd grade eventually. :)

I use my bulletin board that's "hidden" for Growth mindset posters. They are displayed mostly where kids can see them and then I made a section at the bottom for reference sheets I need (phone list, school calendar, lunch menu, etc). Hope that helps!

For behind your desk you should put your influential people posters. For your word wall you should print out a black and white version and a colored version. Put all black and white posters up and then cover them with the colored poster as you teach the phonics skill!

How about using the bulletin board beside your desk as a book recomemndations wall. The half beside you could be the books you are reading, the half that the kids really see could be used for recomendations from you and from the kids. I am looking forward to seeing how your new classroom turns out, I am sure it will be great. Great advice to other teachers.
