I just drywall my little garage/shop myself. I had some big gaps and was very frustrated with my work. Then I Let my fingers do the strolling on KZbin and came across your videos🙏 dude you made it so easy for me to watch and learn, not a bunch of mumbo-jumbo talking, right to the point hands on tutorial. Ben , you are a wizard with mud. I have been mudding off and on for 45 plus years. The last 4 years I have been retired and keeping busy drywalling but mostly mudding. I'm almost 70 and enjoy it but your videos and your teaching what you are doing has really shed a lite on what should be done. Thanks for the details and sharing to have a light touch. I just recently bought a Dewalt corded 9" sander and will be using it on a full addition shortly, I also ordered the pad with the holes in it to be able to suck more dust. Presently because of the smaller jobs I use a Richards vac sander which works fine. Keep up the great work and videos !

Biggest tips I can give are: Make sure you screw heads are set below the drywall surface. Carry a screwdriver with you when mudding the screw heads and if you can still see the = of the screw when you put the mud over the screw head, give it an extra 1/4 turn. Make sure the drywall is absolutely dry before sanding or you will get mysterious dents forming from the drywall mud shrinking after you sand. Better you put the mud on a hair thicker instead of thinner. You can sand off a bump quickly, but you can't sand off a dent. Finally, after you are sure the drywall mud is dry all the way through, sand and then check with a bright light parallel to the wall. This will show every little flaw that you normally wont see until you get your eggshell paint on the wall.

I enjoy these videos but as a DYI guy I still find drywall mudding frustrating. While doing my basement all I could think of was the movie Jarhead. Jamie Fox's character is explaining to Jake Gillehall's character why he loves the Marine Corp. "Yah i could have joined my brothers drywall business for a $100,000 a year but I love the corp for 1/3 of the money." Personally I think he took the easy way out by joining the marines instead of doing drywall. :)

An old timers trick for sanding that I learned from mud finisher of 50 years that has zero dust and you don’t use sand paper is a white damp rag and your bucket to rinse it with,it’s the smoothest finish I’ve ever had and because it’s not that wet you can paint that day after your mud is dry and it’s the cleanest sand job of all.other contractors love it when I do the drywall finishing for the, because it’s so clean,try it out one day and you’ll be hooked as well,been doing it for 20 years like that now on all jobs and they come out perfect every time

As someone who did plastering in a former life, That Festool sander and vac combo is game changing. Sanding is the worst part of the job and there was no realistic way to not make a horrible mess of yourself and the space you are working in. To me it might be worth the cost on a medium sized remodel to avoid spreading dust all over the house and to speed up the process.
@James262853 жыл бұрын
Especially if you resell it. Use it, save yourself the headache of the mess, resell for 50%-60% price and not lose *too* much

Hello, I've been watching a bunch of your videos, and they've been very helpful! I'm renovating my basement, and I'm trying to do the dry wall myself. My technique has been improving thanks to your tips. I've been feathering both the edges and the like button! I do have one issue that is bothering me. I've got a section of painted wall that I'm skimming to join some new drywall. Over one painted area I'm getting bubbles trapped under the mud. I've tried scraping it off and trying again, but I get the same thing. It goes straight down to the paint. This isn't over paper tape or damaged board - its sound painted drywall. While it drying I can push on it and watch the bubble move. I've been using quickset so far. Any tips on how to avoid this? Thanks, Paul

For as concerned with efficiency as you are, I'm suprised you havent somehow marked which way the curve in your blade is facing. That's one of the reasons I love Goldblatt knives: they only print the logo on one side of the handle. And on the 3 I have it's always printed on the convex side. Anyone can confirm they're doing this intentionally?
@trainliker1003 жыл бұрын
For an ambiguous knife, it isn't to hard to mark it yourself. You can even file a couple of notches so you can quickly feel which side is which (similar trick you can deal with keys).

I love your videos, few times I have to watch it over and over because your content is very valuable to learn. I am wondering about your thoughts on @those_drywall_chicks on Instagram, where she showed a hack of covering up a nasty hole. Instead of a California patch, she has a small drywall, puts mud on the back, puts mesh tape on the mud and put the drywall patch in and instead of a paper in California patch, it's mesh tape instead. Thought it's a neat hack, the sheer strength is not a concern as it is in place, but I'm wondering about how strong it is (I'm guessing as strong as an original drywall but not stronger with wood nailed in the back). Just wanted to know your thoughts on that. Anyways, maybe that's an idea for the next video like your bouncy hack 😂!?
