Regarding the captions: as a deaf person that uses captions for everything, I want them to be 100% exactly the same. Weird dynamic captions might look cool for your Tik Tok but they are terrible for accessibility.

Although a great update, it doesn't warrant a v11 version. I would have liked to see much more modern titles and transitions, role-based audio mixing, text-based editing, the ability to convert captions to titles (seriously, why didn't they do this alongside auto-captions?), and role-based audio-ducking (e.g when one audio role reaches a volume threshold, the other one 'ducks'). In fact, I would like to have seen an overhaul to roles to begin with: the ability to put effects on roles rather than individual clips, so that I don't have to keep copy/pasting them all over the place.

it's 2024, but there is no audio mixer in FCP ...for mixing overall levels for dialog, effects, music roles and more

I'm still rooting for text-based editing, but recognize from doing paper edits, and online text-based editing, and a stand-alone text-based editing app, that it's a bigger thing than anyone else has implemented thus far. Typically there's a source pane on the left and an assembly pane on the right. And you either manually search captions to implement in FCP, or export XML from the text-based editor. For working with talking heads, even a paper edit, ie. highlighting text on paper is invaluable. You can see the big picture at a glance with text. This is the next big innovation in video editing. Text-based editing liberates words from time. It makes them non-linear

Speaking of isolating audio, where is your mic? You're not wearing it so is it a boom mic? Are you using the camera's mic? Seemingly, if you were closer to a uni-directional mic your audio wouldn't sound so hollow. Thus, you wouldn't have isolate your audio in Final Cut.

So... it might be a version higher, but it's a basic upgrade with a few added features. CapCut is still offering more features overall. I expected more from Apple on this.

I don’t understand why they made this v11 and not 10.9, but honestly who cares. Transcription is good to finally have, and means I won’t need to go out to Resolve to do it in future. However, not allowing users to convert those caption to titles is super frustrating. It surely must be a simple bit of coding, no?! Magnetic Mask is the big one here - it’s sooo good! It’s quick to select objects/people, fast to track, doesn’t ask you to tell it what you’re trying to isolate, has brushes to paint on/off selections and doesn’t constantly need re-analysing when you leave the project and come back again (like with Resolve’s Magic Mask). Love it!

Zoom To Fit vertically does not seem to exist in my update to FCP11 ... I get a rejection 'beep' when I try the command and upon checking the Command Editor, I find it is not listed... Anyone else..? FYI, I am running an Intel chip... so perhaps.... ? Altho I doubt it...

@@macrumors so, how can i edit in FCP like they have it in davinci? taking words out out and it cuts the video, like the "um's" and other words you don't want in the video... Any way to do it in FCP? any help would be appreciated... thank you.

@@baybae92 captions are not titles. Apple adheres to broadcast norms when it comes to captions. What the problem really is that they didn’t build in a “convert captions to titles” function and you need an external website to do this for you (export/import xml). They should have released this feature alongside “auto captions” right away IMHO. Feels to me that the FCPX team is a skeleton crew and lack resources to move a bit faster.

FCP X 11 is extremely buggy on M2 Pro Mac Mini with 16GB Ram. It was perfect before, and now the playback is often unbearable when you have just two layers, the upper one with a simple "draw mask" effect and eg. reversed time at 100% speed. The Mac now feels like a really slow, old computer. Yet, it was 100% perfect before this release. Absolute nightmare. Please report on this, there are now forum discussion about this on Apple's forum.

Also, it often freezes, would not play and I have to use Force Quit. I tried on another M chip Mac, same results.
