I almost didn't watch this video because in the beginning I didn't hear you refer to the scopes. Later on you verified that you were looking at the scopes more than the image and that sealed it for me. Great job bro!

Great video.. but I believe in order to follow the vectorscope for skin colours, you have to draw a shape mask on the skin and then do the adjustments, otherwise the indications you get are for the whole image, not just the skin tones. Cheers

In the luma scope, You didn't push the highlights to 100. Would you say it's not always necessary? Awesome tutorial btw!
@brytusfilms87704 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but the way I do it is 100 represents pure white...not all scenes are going to have pure white in them. Same with black. You want to look at the image you shot and visualize what is the whitest point and the blackest point and adjust accordingly.
@thefilmgoat91504 жыл бұрын
Jimmy Grant it really depends on the shot. I honestly would rarely recommend ever pushing to 100 to be honest. Only times this usually is a case for me is when I have a hard light shining directly into the camera. If you study most cinematic films, they actually usually rarely go over 80. It’s not about always adding more brightness to the scene. It’s about creating separation with contrast from light and colors. Also adding too much light in post can add unwanted noise in your image. Take this shot for example. We were in a dark alley so it wouldn’t make sense to raise the highlights as high as if I were standing in direct sunlight. Hope this helps!

Ok, I admit, when I see someone call themselves GOAT I am a little biased out of the gate, but whoa. This was probably the best tutorial I have seen on color grading done. Nice job sir! Would love to see how your workflow is when you are doing a video that has multiple clips. Do you spent 20+ minutes on each clip in the video?
@thefilmgoat91503 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! And I spend as much time as I need to get the shot to where I want it. We shouldn’t put a time limit on quality. However, there are ways to definitely speed up the process. I copy my grade to similar shots. Also, I do a base grade first on all clips, then do the look. I generally would spend a day on just grading depending on the size of the project. I may do a tutorial on how I grade an entire project. Thanks for the suggestion! And thanks for tuning in!
