Nicely done. I did my 420c years ago, and your video will be helpful to others. It’s accurate, and clear. I coated the final faces with a shellack sealant when I drew them up to fill any pits and make a thin gasket. Best regards.

Thank you... I hope these videos help others in the years to come. I know they are not always exciting to someone just watching... but the intent was lime you said to help others down the line. Tha ks again and enjoy your 420C!

Thank you. Hope it helps some people. Not hard, but when everything is rusty and seized, it can be near impossible.

Man, you make that look so easy. It's looking like I am going to need to replace the final drive on my JD-40c off-site. I'm getting it from my dad, and he lives about 3.5 hrs away. It should fire right up (finding out next weekend), but the left final drive housing is completely broken. The oil pan at the bottom of the housing has some cracks as well. Where it is sitting, it would be a rough day to try to winch out and onto a trailer to get it home to fix. He's got the housing off, but the brake assembly is still on the tractor and is full of pine needles and junk from being loosely covered with a tarp for the last 7 years or so. I'm thinking I'd be best off to remove the brake drums and get things assembled kind of like you have them here, then slide them in. I think I am going to have to get it running first, and restore it later.

Yes....best thing would be to get it running and moving first then do the resto. The 430 I'm working on had so many issues that I had to take it to parade rest in order to make repairs...so it was just as easy to paint it now. Hoping everything goes smooth for you. Let me know if you run into any questions.

Can't wait for engine assembly. Are you going to shoot some video of your painting process?

I'm hoping to get the engine together next weekend..... and yes, when it's time to paint, I will go over the process I use. This whole project will be documented up to putting on decals and first ride!
