I think it’s basic - if you want it to be. I think it’s complex - if you want it to be. And players can technically get through the game without being top-tier. At least learn how to dodge, and you’ll survive. Spam attack, and you won’t. It’s genius in its design to let anyone with a basic understanding of the mechanics to be successful.

The combat is one of the best action rpg systems I've played. That doesn't mean it's not too easy or doesn't have problems. It's possible to have critique on things you like, for example, Phoenix, Garuda and Ifrit abilities all become massively obsolete by the time you get Bahamut. (Even Phoenix's ultimate gets outdamaged by things like thunderstorm or windup for example.)

I find the "Ultimate" abilities kind of a pain because of their long cooldowns. I like having abilities up more often, and Zantetsuken fills the burst damage role pretty well by itself.

​Odin ultimate is kinda the most practical. Recharges quickly and almost fills the entire gauge. To balance this, it has a long startup and doesn't deal much damage though. We have zantetsuken for that anyways.

it has 8 eikons but Phoenix and Ifrit abilities are linked so in total you have 7 different eikonic skill set

Every Eikon has a skill but you can only use 3 Eikons in battle.

There are 30 individual skills that, when mastered, can be assigned to any Eikon (2 from Ifrit and 4 from each of the 7). You can have up to three different Eikons (the equivalent of Dante's styles in DMC) in your loadout, each of which comes with their own unique feat. In this video, Ongbal is using Garuda, Odin, and Shiva as their "styles." At first, a specific Eikon's individual skills can only be used with that Eikon, but once you level up that skill to max, you can assign those skills to ANY Eikon, so you could have Odin's skills slotted to Garuda's style for example. On top of all of that, refunding ability points to reset skill levels is free and can be done infinitely, so you can really fine-tune your loadout as much as you want. If I know I'm not going to head into a major bossfight, I just stack all the big AoE skills to clear out mobs super quick then change my loadout before the boss.
