SNES, PS1 AND PS2 REALLY FEELS LIKE A GOLDEN AGE. The industry really has suffered when graphics became the focus instead of story telling.

The golden era of RPG's were the Snes, between 93' to 97' roughly. The golden era of gaming lasted to approximately 2005-08'. The era of MMO's started in 06' for reals and peaked around 2010 I believe where it hit a downward trend by morphing into what it is today... uh, mostly crap honestly. Roughly like this. I can't say when the golden era of Arcades were.

I would argue that the last truly great “old school JRPG” came out in the Xbox 360 and went by the title “Lost Odyssey” Given it was a Sakaguchi & Oematsu led project like FF1-6 were, the innovations & story/other features in the game proper felt like they were a proof of concept for how a full-3D Turn Based RPG could both work and look amazing in the “HD Gaming Era” Too bad it didn’t take off like it shouldn’t and we went the other route…

Its kinda sad that nowadays you'd be hard pressed to find devs as passionate about their game as this guy was, they learned brand new technology, hired people from another country, and relentlessly tried to perfect the game just to release it for $50. Even the same company is like "here's the exact same game, pay us $207 for it" more than double than the cost of ff7 original if we count for inflation at $97.

I know there is at least one scene in the PlayStation version (at least in my German version) where they show Tifa's mouth. It's when they are alone outside Highwind after Cloud sent everyone else home.
@TheObsessiveGamer3 ай бұрын
Oh this can be explained. So basically the native PS1 versions don't have mouths by default on the model when they wander around. It's a disabled feature. Once brought over to PC this was reenabled so everyones mouths can be seen on field. However certain cutscenes like the Highwind scene did enable it for the purpose of expressing the scene better. Basically was done only as an exception for such scenes. Here is a small example actually: cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Ys9VwHw3b8TuPnAHqHh8ia-1200-80.png

I love the 'what ifs' of this game. What if it was made for SNES or N64? What if this/that content wasn't cut? But my biggest what if: what if Square never lost (ie deleted) the source code? There were rumors of FF7-9 being remastered for the PS2. Had source code never been lost it probably would've happened. And decades later they could keep uprezzing and improving assets. It would've been amazing to see all the little details fleshed out in higher res. And we wouldn't have gotten the abortion FF7R turned out to be. Younger generations could play the original in perfect detail.
