Falcon? To correct your statement. Disk one ended escaping midgar. Disk two ended after the incident in the ancient city; which seems to be true for rebirth. Disk three actually had very little on it which is prob why they put off the last two chars and their story.

Not sure of everybodys definition of openworld but the director actually said the game is a openworld with seamless interconnected regions. There is also verticality to it and you'll need specific chocobos to be able to climb or fly.

The technical definition of "open world" in gaming means your character has zero restrictions on where they can go at all times, it doesn't require something in the story to occur in order to proceed. This is why FFVII: Rebirth isn't open world because you can't get to certain areas of the game until you progress through the story (for instance, you can't get to Costa del Sol until you complete your first trip to Junon... or you can't get to Cosmo Canyon until you complete the Gold Saucer/Prison). That's why in this video he said it's "open zone", meaning if you've unlocked an area by progressing through the story, you can explore anywhere in that area.

They said from the beginning that the remake trilogy wasn't going to be 100% the same as the original, that it was going to be expanded on and altered slightly but still give you the feeling of the original, which so far has been done excellent. FF7 was a huge part of my childhood and I for one am happy the way these new games are going.

I see people say all the time "no one wanted to play the same game again" but I don't remember anyone complaining when the demo dropped and was basically a copy of the first bombing mission, just expanded a little. It just made everyone even more hyped for the game. I think a lot of people decided they were going to love it no matter what. Hell, *I* thought I was one of those people.

​@@fajaradi1223 well yeah i guess XII was like that. it has been to long. not sure if you could go back in X. i guess you could. star ocean 2 is a good example. you can explore the first Continent completely and get fisted by stronger enemies if you go in the "wrong" direction but to leave the continent you need to progress the story. or you could level up and get back to the story and steam roll everything if you want to. that game just has perfect balance! they dont make games like that anymore. not even octopath managed that since it is open world. maybe FF VII rebirth can do it.

Think of it like how we explored the overworld in the old FF 7 but the dungeons and towns are actually fully there and there is no loading screens. You see Junon from the distance and you can go there and seamlessly walk into the town with no loading. People dont want to call it open world because we arent free to explore every corner of the map from the start of the game. Quick clarification: I do believe the developers have stated that the zones are connected seamlessly with no loading screens. I guess "open world" could also imply that the player can experience the story in a non-linear way--which i don't think applies here--but this game is "open world" in all other senses of the term.

It's not open world because you can't go anywhere at any time. You are free to explore the zones at your leisure, but to change zones you have to either fast travel, or take a specific route. ie the cave after the midgar zolom.

Yeah it definitely wasn't for pacing reasons, or narrative. I think a lot of us don't remember exactly HOW MUCH CGI was in the third disc, not just the climax of the game but TONS of spots in the Northern Crater itself has massive CGI sequences as background. Those sections get so hyped that we often didn't even notice our pre-rendered background is now uh, a full motion video lol

One question I have about the dating mechanic is if it will affect the song 'Promises To Keep' that Aerith is shown to be singing. 10:41 the buggy is likely back due to the devs having the desert blockade from the original game. there were quicksand barriers around the Corel Prison, making it impossible to escape it, once inside. the buggy was the only way to cross the desert. it was also our only way to cross rivers, so perhaps there will be unpassable river sections in the world? But, we did see flying and wall climbing chocobos, so who knows how useful the buggy will be? The continents on the world map is also vastly different from the original. I like that
