I was asked to make the song so that the key phrase would play in repetition, and that’s when Harry Nilsson’s “Without You” came to mind. I took inspiration from it and decided to repeat a key phrase in the chorus. How did you feel when you first listened to “No Promises to Keep?” Uematsu: This is the first time I’ve heard this, and I’m glad she sensed exactly what we were aiming for. “No Promises to Keep” is a love song. I wanted it to exude a sweet feeling, but at the same time, evoke the complex feeling as Aerith confessed her feelings. I tried to build up the song as it climaxed, exactly as Loren described Was there anything you paid attention to when singing “No Promises to Keep”? Loren: I wanted to get to know Aerith well, and I also wanted to depict her relationship with Cloud. So, for me to channel her fragile and pure personality, I needed to change certain elements of my natural vocals to match up with her character. No Promises to Keep was inspired by, “Without you” I just listened to the version Mariah Carey sings in Tokyo and wow, you need to listen to it.

Came back here after witnessing this on Chapter 12. I really cried 2AM in the morning, because of this scene. This is just purely magical. The emotions the song brought out of us players, especially we have invested in the characters and in the story. FF7 Rebirth is just on a whole 'nother level. Square Enix, thank you for this game! The remake of FF7 was truly worth the wait and I can't wait to finish the FF7Rebirth and for the final installment of this game.

This song Aerith wrote is for Cloud, how they met in the street and how it changed her life. And btw she reassures him he has no promises to keep (the opposite of Tifa basically), as she already told him in the dream Remake when he said « I’m coming for you » and her to answer « if that what you WANT… thank you ». At the end of Rebirth, he also says « I will stop Sephiroth » and her to respond « Promise ?? » as a joke « Promise » he smiles.

All of the Turks have been looking after Aerith ever since she was a child, especially Tseng (since the Turks are all a few older than Aerith, while Tseng is at least 40, so he saw her grow up).
