I think more than anything, it wasn't so much that the stories were well written, it was that the characters were developed well. Each character had a story that you would find yourself genuinely interested with. They were memorable and you grow to care for them, unlike the flat prototypical JRPG characters as of late.

howdareyou66 What final fantasy story isn't a clusterfuck? They all become ridiculously complicated and confusing towards the middle of the game and by the end, you're not totally sure what happened except that you saved the world from some bad guy with a rag-tag group of misfit friends. I agree with ***** that the reason FFs work is because (usually) the characters are so unique and have very engaging backstories that you really start to care for them. It doesn't matter if they are fighting some super complicated bad guy in some incomprehensible plot, as long as you get to keep moving forward in the story with your favorite people. Something that the more recent FFs seem to have lost.

I feel like this game was not only beyond it's time for it's visuals and storytelling, but it's moral message as well. The morals of this story are something many people haven't yet grasped. It's so profound, yet simple. Don't focus on differences, just love one another regardless of whether or not you agree with them or not. Zidane is a character I'll always cherish, because he showed us all what true compassion is by risking his own life to save Kuja. Thank you FF9 and this wonderful cast of characters for existing and touching so many hearts.

Not only is FFIX my all time favorite Final Fantasy game but this is also my favorite video game of all time. It's not even my first Final Fantasy game (That honor goes to FFVIII) but to me, this is the most influential as I was growing up back in the days. I was 11 months old when this game came out so i never heard of it until a few years ago. I wasn't sure I wanted to give it a chance because it was so old and i wasn't into retro games at the time, but I am so glad i gave it a chance. I love this game so much. The story, the characters, the music, the combat, the world, etc. I just truly love everything about this game. Easily one of my favourites of all time only behind the Final Fantasy VII games. But this one will always hold a special unique place in my heart that only it can hold.

FF9 is a unique masterpiece and the purest form of J-RPG. It's the moment when Final Fantasy became a mature product, mature enough to create a "tribute game" to the entire series yet with a storytelling and a character development never seen before. The innocence of the design mixed with the philosophical questions raised by the plot makes it that much more enjoyable. This song fits the game so well, it was already melancolic at the time as the whole game was like a retrospective to every final fantasy so far but now that the game is almost 20 years old it really plays with my feelings.

time changes FF15 main story is awful but the road trip and the brotherhood element was really as good as any old ff ! I can't forgot this Music Video, reminds me a lot of my childhood and my late big brother. This was played every 2am on tv, when I hear it subconsciously while sleeping and immediately wake up to watch it then FF8 Eyes On Me is usually played next, after that I return to bed, I was 12 y/o back then. This game has held up better than most due to its unique graphics. This games story may have gone off the rails a bit in the end, but it has some of the most well written characters in the series. Each is relatable and has to contend with problems we all have issues with sometimes. One of my favorite things about this game is that even though each character finds their own way, it's not all happy endings for everyone. Even the main villain is a character that you just can't help but feel a little sorry for. Each individual party member feels like their own person and not just an extension of the main character, I like each for different reasons. I can't say the same for the cast of every final fantasy game. I love final fantasy 7 and I can't wait for the remake, but this in my book is the best final fantasy because it resonates with me. Just seeing all the summons in action is amazing and it awed me when i was a young boy playing this game for the first time. They gave the summons some dimension as super powerful beings and not just summons that show up momentarily and deal damage to your enemies. This game gave the final fantasy series so much depth and character, I hope that future generations continue to enjoy it as I have.

I've played Final Fantasy 1-10. Some which I played years after their release. Final Fantasy 9 I held on to more than the other ones I favored (6,7,8,10). For those who haven't yet considered this game, open your mind, open your heart, and give it a try! I played it again recently actually and there's always this scene that brings tears to my eyes. SPOILER ALERT? It's when Vivi is at the cemetery that's located in the Black Mage Village and they begin to dissect the subject of life and death attempting to give Vivi an explanation of what it is even though they themselves still have a hard time processing that subject matter themselves. At some point in there conversation Black Mage No. 56 asks "He's going to come back out again one day, right? (referring to the black mage that's buried in the cemetery) When he does I'm going to wash him off in the pond." It broke my heart because the little guy buried under in the cemetery will never come back again. Oh man, I stared tearing up writing it down. Oggh. The story in all was very touching it also makes you think a lot about life, our origins, and where will we go in the near future from where we stand.

When I played and finished the game in the early 2000s, the song has since been engraved in my head and is personally my favourite song of all-time. I watched this video in late 2006 and come back 15 years later to listen to it again. It's that great and memorable, still my favourite final fantasy game as well.

This is the first story I ever experienced where it felt like I actually said goodbye to these characters. It was so amazing to see how they all learned so much from each other and their experiences together. They got angry, sad, and were in denial in many moments, but something deeper reached out to them and let their hurts renew them and see the world clearer than they did before. The moment when Amarant finished Zidane's answer for why he wanted to rescue Kuja, after being totally bemused by his motives the two discs prior said it all. If I die, I'd like to be buried with this game.

I still remember my first time playing this, I was much to young to work it out but I was intrigued, I found the game again a few years later when I was old enough understand. After a few attempts I finally finished it. I remember just watching the credits full of emotion. Its the only game that has ever made me feel something like that. Still play it to this day.
