Only really good game FF has is V, VII, X, and 14. All the rest of their games are either mid or bad. So saying Rebirth is best of all FF is not that big a deal.

I remember when I first played Remake and thinking back to when I was a kid playing the demo on ps1 and just being blown away. Super excited for this and probably anyone in their 30's probably feels the same way.

Im 38 and Rebirth is first game which excites me a lot first time in like 10+ years. Since FF15 almost all Squeare games were disappointment for me except for... FF7R and Reunion. First one was my personal GOTY, even last 2 chapters didn't spoil the game for me. Rebirth looks phenomenal. Like the best game in a very long time.

FF16 has decent or maybe good story. The problem is that main cast is very weak compared to normal FF game. Like Jessy would be by far cooler than Jade or how she is called, I even forgot her name (main female protagonist of FF16). Except Cid and few antagonists cast is pretty boring in FF16 but it is only 10% of the problem. It is sooo freaking easy on normal that you feel like you can beat almost all boses eyes closed. Mechanics are just primitive. No comos, no elements, no weakneses, no status ailments no magic except 1 offensive spell. It is like castrated mix of DMC and FF in the worst way. Cool cutscenes, game of thrones vibes and decent plot do not save the game from being ultra boring. Weapons look like this: Sword with attqack +10 than +20 +45 +55 +100 etc. Yes, super linear development with useless loot. Side quests are mostly a chore. FF16 is overrated and should be at 7/10 max meta. But if there is nothing to play it may be worth a time.@@datpspguy

I like my games a bit more difficult which requires a bit of grind and focus. Doesn't have to be Souls-Like but I do enjoy a challenge. @@Alexriga

@@redbearington3345 That's bull. I've been playing the ff series since the early 90's and I gotta say you ff 'purists' are the absolute worst. An active time battle system does not make a ff game, a strong story with good character development does. Both games you mentioned have a strong story with great character development and if you can't get past a different battle system to enjoy a good game then I just feel sorry for you. If you like the old games so much you can still go back and play them (I do all the time with 4 through 10) and then maybe after you can try to enjoy something new.

I thought the mini games were way too many excessive but enjoyed them more on my second playthrough, I actually enjoyed the game a lot more on my second run than the first and was happy to know the lvl cap is 70 instead of 50, more than anything I love the combat, some of the voice acting is horrendously irritating and even cloud says to yuffie at some point "please shut up" gosh whiney voices irk me something fierce, despite all this it's a phenomenal well thought out and written game, who on earth knows how long we'll be waiting for part 3, which some are debating it will be a ps6 launch title, which i hope not I don't wanna hear about ps6 for at least another 3 years, but I guess the next ff anything will be ff16's leviathan dlc which im heaps excited for, i heaps hope you cover that, awesome review you've done on this, take care till the next one 😊👍

Dude I can't wait!!! This started me as a gamer. Sure I played older consoles but I wasn't good at the stuff my dad and brothers played but this is what made me happy a great story. I'm so excited it's like I'm ten again minus my parents divorcing this time. My wife still doesn't understand why I cried when that e3 trailer made that promise. She still thinks it's a dumb game.

150 hrs for me in my first playthrough. Yeah I wasn't in a rush, just wanted to soak up this beautiful open region world they created while taking part in exhilarating combat listening to an OST that's on fire especially during boss fights. My only gripe is there were too many mini-games and they didn't give us a skip option for games you had to win to complete quests. I know stating that can ruffle some Chocobo feathers but they just aren't my thing. Also they could have added some more accessibility options. Overall it was a masterpiece. 9/10.

Thanks for the quick review, not sure I'm ready for another 80+ hour game straight after finishing Infinite Wealth. Still skeptical on the story changes, Remake was great until the last 1 hour kind of derailed it, the ending did not work for me (that was some Kingdom Hearts level of nonsense, desperately pretending to be very clever), so I am a bit worried how they balance the sequel vs remake thing this time around.

Absolutely love it combat 6/5, story was ok they will really need to pull it together in part 3 4/5, my biggest criticism is Cloud. Yes the influence of Sepharoth is apparent but in the original he was not as cold to the team. He is a dick to everyone the whole game!! The end of remake Cloud was bonded with his team and it felt like he took 30 steps backwards. The Tifa segment after the prologue really threw me off. And that’s all I got and who cares what I think now troll me

Hey Cowboy, two quick questions: considering I didn't grow up with FFVII, so I don't have the emotional attachment you do to the game, do you think it would still be a similarly enjoyable experience? Not trying to say you were wearing nostalgia goggles or anything, mind, just wondering how much of what made the game hit for you was tied to the investment you brought to the table. Also, I remember you mentioning while playing Stranger of Paradise that you thought SoP's combat made some improvements to FFVII Remake's systems; would you say that the addition of the new mechanics in Rebirth pushed the combat flow closer to SoP? Or is it just a beefier version of Remake's combat? Thanks! And glad you're having such a blast with the game.

This is more like a beefier Remake in terms of combat. As for emotional attachments I wouldn't worry. The scene that hit me the hardest was involving a character I didn't even remember.

I played Final Fantasy VII and though it was rubbish, then realised I had been playing it for four hours, so I gave it a chance, I had hundreds of hours into the game, played it many times over, maxed materia, got all the skills and ultimate weapons, all the summons and a gold chocobo, I love the remake but, breaking it up into chunks and keeping players dangling, waiting for the next instalment is hell, I waited years for this.

A long time ago in a life far far away.....I was 19 when Final Fantasy VII released. The first game to take me away from the constant replay of VI, purchase of my then 3rd game system, cheating Blockbuster paying a $20 destruction fine to keep the game, etc. It was a great game. (After you leave Midgar of course) Here we are 25 years later......quarter century y'all, (Let that sink in everyone.) and I just completed VII Rebirth. I loved it. The story makes perfect sense to me. But I also know the entire compilation minus Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII. One spot of spoken dialogue from Sephiroth made me realize EVERYTHING released thus far matters: "You can't save her. ~You can't save anyone. Not even yourself~." Cloud said that of himself in his conversation with Tifa in Advent Children. Seems Square and Final Fantasy have finally hit their high marks once more. Starting with XV, and going on to Remake, XVI, and Rebirth....all being solid and great games. I cannot wait for the final part of the trilogy, and to see what they do with XVII. Honestly did y'all think they would make it long enough to add a X to VII...? I didn't.

I liked remake… but got really tired of Midgar. And really tired of long thin areas of map that you could “explore.” It was beyond linear. The demos second half tho was enough for me to give this a shot. The open world area almost felt like a Dragons Dogma region or inspired by it. This was behind DD2 and SOTE on my list this year but now I’m really excited. I was really surprised in the demo the areas I could reach or vault up coming from FF7 2020. It felt like what I wanted FF16s world to be tho I did really enjoy that game despite it.

My problem with remake was that it was too little substance stretched into a full game. So you had long boring sections. Mostly because I think it shouldn’t have been 3 games. One long game or 2 games at most but not 3. How is this one in that way? Are there long sections that are dull with lame side quest?

overall i'd say like an 8-9/10. It's more that there's systems that I just don't fucking understand why they're called what they're called that drives me nuts And blocking isn't reactive enough at all Like, why is the menu option called Upgrade Weapons. There's no upgrading of the weapon happening Why is there a "vendor" type person for the gridsphere thing? I can't change my grid, or my folio, so I shouldn't have a vendor for it Party AI needs some sort of gambit system or at least some better orders. I want to tell my party "only attack the things I'm attacking"

@@FightinCowboy i appreciate the heads up. i just felt with a game like this, one that has arguably the most pivotal scene in gaming history, should be seen through to completion before a decision can really be made, depending on how they've handled it.

I mean trust me I was trying, I had 70 or something hours played at the time of this review. Getting to the end with doing everything took close to 100 though. Hard to manage that in two weeks

I think you might need to use tents at the benches to regain MP

First time seeing gameplay for FF7 Rebirth and it sounds like they are borrowing the party system from Kingdom Hearts which I'm all for it

Ive thought about getting into these remakes, but i cant justify spending over 200$ to play a 20 year old story. Maybe in like 5 years theyll be a pack to get all 3 games for like 50 or 60, then ill take a look.

It will be longer then that to get all 3 at that price lol. You better spending the money now. It's definitely worth it. Far different then what the original is.
