Nanaki is one of the characters I hold closer to my heart. It’s so sad to see what he has to endure at such a juvenile state of mind yet, Hojo is a monster and he damaged his eye, and traumatized him for life 😢 I’m so glad Aerith and the others help him so much to trust people again, he’s just a baby pup

It's easy to be yourself with an animal. I know Red is more than just an animal, but same principle. Humans can be deceptive and cruel, so it's natural to be on guard around them, but animals are more straightforward. It's like what Steve Irwin said. (Paraphrasing from memory.) Gators will eat you, if given the chance, but humans will pretend to like you first.

Same, I lost my Golden Retriever at the end of her 13th birthday on the first of April (no joke). She was completely fine in the morning, and in the evening we suddenly had to say goodbye. She and I went through so much together during those 13 years, good and bad. But this reminded me of her. And while it didn’t ease any pain, it was at least nice to think of her again. Don’t regret ending up with Red.

I find this so adorable. Red xiii acting like playful puppy, seeing him switch his personality/voice from Mufasa to young Simba makes him more interesting to me as I liked him in the original but seemed to eventually blend in the background later game. Apparently Red was always meant to be like this, the original english text just didn't do a good job portraying it. In the Japanese version his dialogue shifted to sound more like a younger person then act he was putting on.

I confess that, although I agree with the Cloud/Tifa couple, I did EVERYTHING to get this scene with Aerith, because I wanted to make the most of it with her already knowing her destiny. But, curiously, the character I had the most coverage with was Nanaki, perhaps because he was the character I used the most after Cloud, and this scene ended up happening to him. At first it was a huge blow for me, but I couldn't help but be happy, seeing Nanaki so happy, and showing that even though he's the oldest in the class, he's just a kid, having fun having an adventure with his kids. new friends. I didn't like this change in Nanaki at first, he seems too young, mainly because of the perception I had of him in the original, but after this scene, I started to accept him more, he's our boy! :)

Actually he did save her, Aerith changed fate with the white whispers for her to be killed, since that’s required for her to save the planet from meteor. That’s why she’s doing an extra effort to make Cloud think she’s fine, that he succeeded (because he did) and that she’ll just have to stay at the Ancient City to pray to Holly. She doesn’t know yet that there’s another Aerith from the future, because just as Nanaki said, the black whispers did took the memories they had from the future. I suppose that, based on Zack’s foreshadowing and the conversation Cloud had with Aerith at the beach, that the Aerith from the future is coming back in some way, because who says world can’t collide once again?

Everyone in FF7 is a subversion of their apparent character type: Red is the subversion of the "noble savage" trope, because he pretends to be like that, but isn't, because he's actually too young. This is just Red dropping the act.

Nanaki faked his more mature voice to try and gain more respect and to be treated as an equal. Once they made their way to his home in cosmo canyon he reverted to his original speech due to excitement. He actually does the same in the o.g ps1 game but its much harder to tell due to the english translation and lack of voice acting.

He was talking in a deep voice so people would take him seriously (Watch clips of him in the remake). He is just a kid though who has been through Hojos experiments, occasionally he slips back into the deeper voice. They did this to match the original where his way of speaking changed after Cosmos Canyon.

I dont know why everyone calls red a dog when hes clearly modeled after a cat. But the voice for him either way is horrible. Im still in gold saucer the first time about to have the dyne reveal and his voice doesnt sound like that. Probably changes around cosmo canyon i suspect but either way it ruins the character for me hearing his voice go through puberty.

My in-universe theory for why everyone seems to assume Red is a dog is that there don't seem to be many big cat based creatures in the FF7 universe, outside of rarer monsters such as couatls and the panther centaurs in the temple of the ancients. So everyone's first assumption when they see a large quadrupedal carnivore accompanying humans is "weird dog", because they assume a cat would be much smaller. But yeah, he's got at least as much big cat in him as he does wolf/dog, and I wish the game would acknowledge that more often.

Nanaki has traits of both. Even in original he was howling at his father's stone body. No cat does that. At certain angles he looks like a at and others a dog, he also wags his tail,pants. But he also growls like both animals do.Besides he has a flamelit tail and it is a fantasy game. Not too serious.

Yeah but...this is Cloud's date, and his story. This isn't some CRPG like Baldur's gate or an immersive sim open rpg like Bethesda games where you can literally roleplay anyone be anyone and do anything. Those games are great for that, but this just isn't. This isn't your fantasy lol (forgive the horrible pun haha). The two people who have a genuine interest in Cloud ARE Tifa and Aerith, none of the others do (Yuffie for ex, even tho she's a woman, comes off as pretty platonic imo), the game's story and characters shouldn't just...bend to your will because you want it to lol.
