Remake would be awesome. It was great to watch your play though. Reactions we so funny. Also can we get a GF supercut? And by that I mean everything you called them girlfriends😂😂😂. I was dying in one of them. Fixing the draw grind…. Don’t cap at 9 per draw if your magic lvl is high enough. Sad the play though is over but had a great time re-living it through yours

So glad you enjoyed it bro. I’m excited to play the other Final Fantasy games but if 8 gets a Remake I’ll be there DAY 1

Jeez Rex, you're a damn poet. especially around the 8:00-8:15 mark... "8 was so bittersweet because they were going for something, but they didn't quite reach it... but you can see it". talked with some serious passion my friend!

Hey thank you so much!! This was an awesome experience and I’m excited for the next one.

If you think about it, the ground work for an FF8 remake is already being done in FF7Remake and FF7Rebirth, mostly in Rebirth. I would argue that FF7Remake and Rebirth are basically remakes of FF8 story with FF7 characters and settings. Timelines or "Worlds" as are called in Rebirth, are more akin to FF8 than to FF7. It's like if they wanted to do a FF8 remake first but Square-Enix forced them to do a FF7 Remake and basically said "Oh, well, let's use what we had prepared for FF8 remake and incorporate that into FF7". I mean, Edea was suppoused to be in FF7 OG but was cut and moved to FF8. But even then, yeah, FF8 does deserves a remake in a similar sense to what they are doing with FF7, though not 3 part story, maybe at most a 2 part, even if you were to expand things to make the story more cohesive, it still would be a game that you would finish in 70 hours or so, which a similar amount of time you would finish a first run of FF7 Rebirth, so not that difficult.

I heard that they were allowed to experiment doing something new they wanted to try in FF8, so I guess they might have enjoyed making it. That's why it's kinda crazy.. I also heard that Squall x Rinoa is kinda a 'tribute' to Cloud x Aerith. If we can read Cloud's thoughts, maybe it'll be similar to Squall? If we can't read Squall's thought, maybe people would think he's cool like Cloud? Reading the thought bubbles was what makes Squall more relatable, I kinda like it. I admit the battle system is kinda tricky. I like junctions, but i felt disappointed when i missed Siren after i worked hard on getting Card ability, and people in the internet said Siren is needed. I actually just wanna read the story and not so much battle, so i was devastated. Maybe i shouldn't care too much, there's no wrong way to play, isn't it?

I agree with you, 7, 9, 10 and so on are already great. This black sheep should deserve a remake. Alas, companies care more about profit though, because they need to eat

I've often throught parts of this game and the vibe were influenced in part by the mgs1 (the melancholy and horror gothic vibes) and the first mission impossible film with the europe setting. So good.

8 and 10 are my favorites. Also loved the little part in Kingdom Hearts were Cloud and Squall team up to fight.

I like the story somewhat. Junction system's "draw mechanic" needs to be revamped. Maybe reward magics after battle into a party pool that can be manually distributed later. Card game is fun but overpowered, that needs to be tweaked too. Maybe card tournaments in every city (keep their card rule mechanics) that allow players earn refine "points" to refine certain type of cards depending on locality. A little bit of tweaks on level scaling. Voila~! FF8 Remake core concepts should be good.

THANK YOU - This is my favorite FF and Im so pissed that people shit on it and give FF7 a remake but theyve ruled out 8 because people trash it so much. Thank you for speaking the truth! lol This game and its story, setting, world building are SO amazing. I want to know more about Centra and Hyne, etc. but you're right there is some fat to trim - if they do that an FF8 remake would sell just as well as 7 I just know it.

I mostly agree but I would rephrase it slightly. It's not that they need(ed) to drop some stuff, I'd say it is more accurate to say that it needed longer to polish up properly, the game as it was presented just felt very first draft in a lot of areas. It needed someone looking over it and saying "Ok, this is good but smooth out this tangle here" or "go back through this scene and clean it up a little to make it fit with this one better". Many aspects just felt a bit clumsy and needed a bit more development time (except the OST which was sublime). An easy example is the FMVs, specifically the end of disc 1 and the end of the missile base. They wanted these big dramatic fake out deaths but didn't actually have a reasonable explanation for _how_ they survived. Gets pierced through the chest by a massive icicle spear - wakes up and has no wound for...some reason. I can believe he survived it but saying he's absolutely fine afterwards, just because they don't want to have a recovery/PT arc is just lazy. Missile base team gets essentially nuked in an explosion probably seen from space - hid inside a armored tank, got trapped there for days unnoticed. Just have a much smaller explosion or something because the one we see was just not ground zero survivable in any way. Two more in depth examples are from the assassination plot line, first in the blocking and second in the writing. 1- Blocking) The layout of the assassination makes no sense at all. The parade circles the city once then heads down the center, when it passes through the gateway the gates are dropped by the gate team trapping the sorceress and the sniper takes her out, should this fail the team leader confronts the sorceress and fights her close range one on one. The problems are that - a) The sniper is positioned at the start point of the parade therefor his target is heading directly away from him in a vehicle that has a massive obstruction on the back blocking his view and his target is even sitting in a massive chair that also obstructs vision from behind, basically he has no line of sight (all of which would be null if he were positioned on the opposite side of the city in front of her. b) Dropping the gates before the sniper takes the shot serves only to warn the target that they are in danger, the gates should only be dropped if the sniper misses. c) The team leader is halfway across the city with the sniper while the gate team is _in the gateway the target is trapped in._ Why is the person across the city from the person he is then supposed to fight when there is already another (larger) team already on location. d) Related to the first point - when the shot is fired and the sorceress blocks it the shot is coming from in front of her because the writers have not realised that they put the sniper on the wrong side of the city. e) When the team leader has finished crossing the city to fight one on one the target is *on the other side of the gate they used to trap her* how is he supposed to reach her to fight her? Again they just handwave the gate out the way as if he hasn't just miraculously just warped through it. f) How is it that the two other people on the other side of the city are the only ones to turn up to help him with the fight instead of the previously mentioned _three team members already on location._ And yet in disc 2 the two other people that *actually physically attacked the sorceress in person* are the two who are either somehow not arrested or immediately released instead of the three that apparently hid in the control room while it all went down. So yeah, this entire sequence was just blocked terribly as if they used the first draft of the script without questioning anything. 2) - Writing) The reason that the 'they were all raised in the same orphanage' plot twist fell flat was because it was so very badly foreshadowed and a great example of this is in the scene where Squall has to talk Irvine into taking the shot. Good foreshadowing is when a scene is written with a double meaning but the second meaning is only realized when you go back to it after completing the narrative. In this scene Irvine remembers that the sorceress is the woman who raised them but Squall does not, so going back to it later you would think that something Irvine says should have hinted at this even if we didn't pick up on it the first time around... but he doesn't. All the things he says are completely unrelated to this hidden knowledge and completely viable as the actual reason he can't fire. You can infer that maybe he's just making up anything to avoid having to shoot at his Matron but reading the dialogue has not even a hint towards it. Something that would have worked much better would have been him saying that he is 'unable to shoot her' - meaning he is 'unable to shoot _her'_ but Squall taking it as 'he is unable to _shoot_ her'. One case implies that there is a reason not to shoot this particular person and the other implying that he can't take the strain of being a sniper in general. Had the game worked better foreshadowing into its writing like this then some of the more extreme turns would have worked out much more understandably. Less 'what the hell?' and more 'Ah, _that's_ what was happening there'. With all this nitpicking you might think I have a very low opinion of this game but that's untrue, I _love_ this game, I just wish it had been cooked for a bit longer to trim away its assorted imperfections. So I absolutely agree that this game needs a remake, one that polishes out the flaws, adds the dropped Laguna timeline stuff back in but does not go off on wild tangents because they had a bunch of new things they want to throw in (nor stretch out every dungeon and corridor to pad the time).

The draw system gets a lot of hate but I think that's the fault of bad tutorials and the rest of the magic and junction system having quite a steep learning curve to really understand. What I mean is, the tutorial makes a point of teaching you how to draw and there are draw points dotted around that reinforce the idea that you have to draw magic from enemies to build up magic reserves. And then the card game makes it seem like you should play the minigame to get more cards. But this is the wrong way to obtain magic. But really all you need is to use Quezacotl's Card ability to kill every monster you encounter and then use Card Mod and Magic Refine abilities to get magic out of it. It's way easier and faster and you can do it while just progressing normally through the game. If you want to grind for magic, you can do it just like a typical JRPG and just get in a fight and Card the monsters. And I personally think it's not a coincidence that it basically works exactly like catching Pokemon considering Pokemon came out only a few years before FF8. The weaker they are, the more likely Card will work. I even tested this once. You can play the game like a typical JRPG and regularly kill monsters and even level up if you're aware of the Card Mod to magic refinery pipeline. The game just does a terrible job explaining all this to the player.

FF9 is fantastic but seriously do yourself a favour and get the newest version with the speed boost because they really made that game SLOW. If the game wasn't slow it'd be one of the best games ever made. It sort of already is to be fair despite those issues

i would love the remake of FF8 if they wont murdered the story like they did to FF7R. that deviate from the main story. not killing aerith is character assassination. being timeline BS kingdom hearts multiverses irritates me the most. id love what it is on the Original and i dont want them to butchered it like the done to FF7R.

There's a very easy way to judge if a game's ideas are any good, and that is if those ideas are copied to other games, since this industry loves to copy good ideas. FF8 had a lot of new ideas, none of which have ever been copied to other games. That speaks volumes.

Congratulations on beating it, but it's limited to a 1st playthrough. Story is impossible to understand everything in a 1st playthrough and the modern, scientific enviroment make sense with "deciphering it". Gameplay wise also gets benefits from replaythroughs, your script didn't specify, but the fact you showed Draw images imply you had problems with repetitivity, of course there are ways to beat the game without any repetitivity. You need experience with FF7 and FF9 to beat them grindless, same for this. When you say you wanted a more user friendly remake, I hear dumbed down.
