The 4th wall is the imaginary wall separating actors on the stage from the audience... or in this case, the game from the player. The person he was fighting probably had a quote that was pretty meta, talking to the player themselves. Squall doesn't notice "the player" and just focuses on his opponent, and calls his opponent out on it. Imagine if one of your friends insisted you were in a reality tv show, and kept looking at a camera you couldn't see.

Yeah, dissidia's quotes are far superior to duodecim's. Must be all the added features in the latter, they couldn't put in these golden lines. Tidus tho is pretty hilarious for me.
