It's hard to keep track of the fact that despite this theme being called "Sunken Shrine" it is actually the Past Chaos Shrine's theme (which is at the end of the game), and the "Chaos Shrine Theme" is used for both the Present-Era Chaos Shrine and the Sunken Shrine.

It's been that way since the original NES Final Fantasy. At this point I think that it's become a running gag for the soundtrack.

I think of it as "Temple of Fiends Revisited" from what the strategy guide called the final dungeon when I played it as a kid. Either way, tied with Zelda's Level 9 theme for most epic NES final dungeon track.

I always assumed the whole name mix up was probably the developers deciding, "Hey this underwater temple theme would go better as a final dungeon." So they swapped it out without changing the name though.

I love how this track was misused in all versions past the NES version. This was meant to be used for the Underwater temple; hence the name, but was used instead for the Chaos Shrine Past, while the Chaos Shrine Present was used for the Underwater temple.

TheShadowlord90 You have no idea how much that confused me after I played Origins a couple years ago. I loved this theme. So when I found the Chaos Shrine theme and this didn't play, it took me hours to find this. I never knew why either - so thanks for the explanation!

RyuzakiFan1 The funny thing is, it kinda works. Chaos Temple and Underwater Temple have a very familiar theme; almost inverted like. As a result, Underwater Temple fits the Chaos Temple Past. But, in terms of usage; it makes absolutely no sense; since in the sound test, it's still called "Underwater Temple" and the Chaos Shrine isn't underwater, leading most people to say, wtf lol. I only noticed this because I played the original NES when it came out, and I like watching out for when music is reused in games, or changed around.

It actually is the Chaos Temple soundtrack, they misplaced the names. Final Fantasy is a game that I make sure to beat at least once a year, know all of it by heart, trust me. Underwater temple is other OST

Anyone else think that the Warrior of Light in the logo is Garland? It looks a lot like his over world sprite in the NES game, he is the only character with those horns on his helmet, and he is posed next to either the princess or a bat, both of which surround him in the original game. None of the sprites for the player classes look even remotely like the drawing either.

It’s the way the arpeggios are. In early 8 bit games, all composers had access too were 3 channels, two for triangle, saw, square, or sine waves and one for noise (all three could be used for the music, though). Since the chords possible are limited, the best way to outline more complex harmony were arpeggios. Many of Uematsu’s tracks used this in the 8 bit days.

Yeah basically they screwed up the track listing for this track. For the record, the PS1 soundtrack has been reused for every rerelease of FF1 (excluding the GBA versions), so it's the same no matter which version PS1, PSP, etc.

AaronSOLDIER Actually, PS1 soundtrack of FF and FF2 are remixes of songs estabelished in WonderSwan Color version. It's WonderSwan Color versions that first got Final Boss theme and Minor Bosses themes.
