One of my favorite elements of FFIX is the relationship between Steiner and Vivi. They become good friends, with Steiner like an older brother or guardian, and the game reflects this with game mechanics in the form of the team up elemental sword skills. I always love when game mechanics reflect the narrative.

Beatrix was playable in the now-shitcanned mobile game Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia with her full moveset plus a few extras, like a super attack where she does a cool pose with Steiner while Rose of May plays in the background before giving the bad guys a big ol' magical whack with her sword. That was such a good surprise, Excalibur II, wasn't even keeping track of your time, and OF COURSE YOU HAD TO. Beautiful. And I don't know, Steiner just feels so good to use. I was thinking it's so hard to go without the healers. Like ff4, I can't even imagine going without Rosa, especially on the moon... And Steiner does make that comment when he and Garnet are traveling how he wouldn't have made it without her Cure spells. BUT THIS TIME HE DID!

With the Blood sword, I think you can use Minus Strike to heal off the damage Beatrix does with Shock and deal it back to her. Of course, that would entail surviving Shock in the first place, but theoretically, she generally swings hard enough to take herself out a few turns early. She's only got like 5300 HP or so...

Also this was my Secret of Mana naming theme before I learned that Randi, Primm and Popoi were the characters' proper names (which was embarrassingly recently considering how much I played SoM over the past like 25 years). @@clukinvar Yeah, the enemies in NA Legaia all have their stats increased by a bunch, money drops are halved and exp gains are about 1.5 times higher in Pal and the original JP than in NA. Reminds me of Working Designs localizations where they did things like make healing spells cost 500% more MP in the NA version than in JP in an old Sega CD RPG called Vay, among their other stat-editing atrocities that they called "balancing".

I solo'd this with everyone and Tiamat is, and will always be, a pain in the ass. Also, I never knew there's a save point right after, because it's so hidden. BTW, is there no way to get a Reflect Ring in Disc 4? It makes Lich much easier. Also, with proper timing, you can revive yourself when under Doom status. Throw a Phoenix Down at yourself once you're close to zero. Oh and at least you went back for Excalibur 2.
