The Baby-D evolution reason is actually one bug and one interestingly related feature. The feature is that because your monster is the same as the ones you fight, there's kind of sub-tiers based on when you first encounter the monster. The reason you get a Silver from the babywyrm is because silver is the lowest tier "horse", like how Wererat meat for Baby D yields the lowest tier "fae", the Sprite because there's nothing else it could be. The bug is that the Young-D in Venus's world is mislabeled as Baby-D when it's yours, probably an index or pointer mistake. The Watcher meat just turns any of the Dragon types into an Eye type of the tier Watcher is at. Baby-D has the highest sub tier of the starters so it's evolutions tend to be stronger.

Oh yes! I loved the Legend series. I remember these Final Fantasy games being hard as a kid.
