I feel FFLIII is closer to Mystic Quest than any other FF games.

Makes sense, since it was developed by the same team. The team that made the previous 2 SaGa games were developing romancing saga while this game was also in development

You know the Legend games aren’t Final Fantasy games, right? They’re Saga games… they were just released under the FF name in the West as a marketing ploy

The leveling system in this is my least favorite in the series. I vastly prefer selecting or influencing the stat growth of my characters instead of just leveling up and the game determines how the stats grow. That said its my second favorite in the Gameboy trilogy, behind II and ahead of the first game.

I 100% agree. Why would you want to turn SaGa games into every other JRPG?? It’s so sad that people see something as unique as SaGa. And all they want to do is change it and take away the things that make it unique.

@@Seama327 Yeah though I liked III's setting and story. And at least in the US turnbased JRPPGs on Gameboy were very rare so while I like the game itself I don't think it should have been a Saga game. What's ironic is with how few Gameboy turn based JRPGs came to the US back then it being the most standard JRPG of the series made it unique for the system in North America. The other turnbased JRPGs we got for Gameboy pre Pokemon were all the more unique ones like the first two Saga games and Great Greed

@@Seama327 Yeah Great Greed is very high on my games I wish were re-released list. My second copy (My first got thrown out by mistakes along with my entire Gameboy collection except for one game in 99) was the last original Gameboy game I ever bought because it took me years to find a replacement copy

I love all 3 games. Not a picky fan. Do what you want I like the game I like it, I don't, then.. but I know they are saga games, love those more than final fantasies.

So by removing all the unique gameplay elements but retaining the unique narrative elements they created a better game, but lost what made it more like SaGa and instead ironically made it more like Final Fantasy. It's interesting the remake went back on that decision. Even though it sounds like it might have made for a worse product, I can still respect that choice in a way, you know?

I believe the reason the 3rd game is so different is because it wasnt made by Squaresoft. I think some other company bought the rights and made it. So Squaresoft continued making actual "Saga" games after Final Fantasy Legend 2. I just got the "Saga" collection for the switch. Great informative video!

Reading up on this, Legend III was handed off to their now-somewhat infamous Osaka studio. I'll keep an eye out to see what else they handle

@@TomLazan Oh, I didnt know it was a company linked to them. Well I like the third much better than the first two but, the first two have so much more consequences. This makes the player plan every adventure before leaving town. When I was a kid the first two were the hardest games I played. As annoying as that was, now I see it was a good way to engage the player.

Ffl3 is easily the worst, but it’s still a good game. It lacks identity and feels like a watered down final fantasy rather than a SaGa game, which is why this is so hotly debated

@@TomLazan that’s fair. It’s also interesting how sagas concept was born of ff2, which is similar to saga and considered to be the black sheep of the ff series. SaGa 3 is similar to The ff series and is considered to be the black sheep of the SaGa series. Both also start with a prologue and immediately thrust into battle.
