It genuinely puts a smile on my face every time I see a new Rebirth Music Analysis in my youtube feed! I certainly wish that this channel would finally get the recognition it absolutely deserves. Until then, rest assured that you're bringing a lot of joy to the people who are already following this wonderful series!

So funny, because I almost suggested starting a Patreon. I'd love to be able to see your spreadsheets, and boy howdy, wouldn't that be perfect as a Patreon reward? I've also been spreading the Gospel of Rainville on my Discord server and have more recently mentioned your channel on Twitter. I'm glad to see you're meeting with some level of success, and I can tell you from experience there is an audience for this type of content. I, sadly, do not have as keen an ear for music, so I've not been able to satisfy the diehard music fans in the FFVII community. Keep up the astounding work!
@patrickrainvilleКүн бұрын
Extremely kind of you to say. Thank you kindly. ❤ And thank you for preaching!! You're right stuff involving the spreadsheets would make good Patreon fodder. Haven't really put too much thought about that stuff yet but I guess I should start!

@@patrickrainville I mean, you could just start a Patreon and charge people just for the hell of it without providing an incentives. That's cool, too. 😆

Another great video Patrick! The Midgardsormr theme is so good, my jaw hit the floor in phase 3. My favourite tidbit is during the phase 3 transition at 26:58 they tease 3 notes from Birth of a God from the og game. I absolutely cannot wait to hear that track remade!

whoa say whaaat! That's awesome. I can't hear it; which part of Birth of a God are we talking about?? 😲

Your editing is top tier 😂 I am loving the on-screen text. It’s super helpful to see cues for what you’re hearing and what you find notable!

Thank you! Sometimes I worry the mix of text + voice is a bit overwhelming, but I'm glad it's not too dense!

I really appreciate you doing this analysis series. There are so many songs in this game that are easy to pass over. Like it wasn't until a second playthrough I realised there was a battle version of the Wall Market theme.

I think I know why they choose the tonal shift for Wallmarket. In the OG FF7 it was all one game and in that there was a variety of tonal shifts to balance out the feel of the adventure. So The Golden Saucer was in the middle of the game that acted as that point of levity between the darker bits, to liven things up for overall tonal dynamics. We are now dealing with 3 games instead of one, since there is no Gold Saucer in Remake to act as that point of levity, Wallmarket took that spot for the role. To me this makes sense and helps Remake, as a single game, feel more dynamic in it's emotional range.
@patrickrainvilleКүн бұрын
Fantastic point. Remake definitely needed that Gold Saucer-esque levity. Well said!

Strangely, even though I normally prefer live instruments in music, I've never minded Yoshitaka Suzuki's use of virtual instruments in his music. I've listened to most of his works outside of FF7R (in Square Enix games) for quite some time now like FFXIV, FFXV, FFRK, KH3, SOPFFO, etc. In fact, he's still one of my absolute favourite arrangers. To me, his virtual instruments somehow add to the personality in his music. The little distortion or dissonance or however you call it when his instruments are played together somehow works for me. The way he uses these virtual instruments is also unique and I don't think I've heard anyone else uses them like he does, even if it's the exact same sample libraries. Though, of course, it'll be a real treat if he does use live instruments.
@patrickrainvilleКүн бұрын
Oh that's an interesting take. I like that. I hadn't thought about how it adds to the personality of his tracks, but you're right! He definitely deserves more recognition. I don't think I've listened to the Record Keeper soundtracks outside of the few tracks that made it into Theatrhythm Final Bar Line. I should seek those out!
@LightKeyDarkBladeКүн бұрын
@@patrickrainvilleI don’t know how it works or how he does it (intentionally or unintentionally) but his arrangements work for me despite the obvious virtual instruments. FFRK has some unexpectedly great music and arrangements and quite a lot of bangers! A few of the arrangers for Square Enix this day seemingly has FFRK as one of their first game projects for the company, like Shotaro Shima and Tadayoshi Makino.
@patrickrainvilleКүн бұрын
@@LightKeyDarkBlade Yeah I'm impressed by the amount of arrangers seemingly got their feet wet with RK. I guess a mobile game is a great place to test the waters. Didn't realise Makino also contributed to RK!
@LightKeyDarkBlade20 сағат бұрын
@@patrickrainville Makino only arranged 1 track in FFRK so far. Yeah, smaller projects are great places for that but it sounds like the arrangers really give their all even for FFRK. And it seems like the company likes using FFRK and getting numerous arrangers (and I mean a LOT of them) to work on it. Most of their other FF mobile games usually have a few dedicated composers and arrangers, like Mobius (Mitsuto Suzuki and whoever he decided to get to help him out like Kengo Tokusashi and Tsuyoshi Sekito) and FFBE (Noriyasu Agematsu and others from Elements Garden). They’ve got great music too! I guess it’s because of the FFRK music director Keiji Kawamori and I think he’s the reason why we see some familiar names across games like FF7R and other projects Kawamori is also involved in. FF7EC seems to be following a similar route based on the credits in-game. Alas, we don’t have any OST or individual track credits yet. Hopefully, we get 1 soon.
@ryanharrison3118Күн бұрын
I think your right about Suzuki's tracks sounding a bit more obvious in the sample libraries that he uses or in the way he uses it. What sticks out the most to me is I can really pick out Cinebrass, the trumpets patch, trombone, 6 horns and that 12 horns patch that's been used in tons of trailer music.

A couple more tracks that seem to have slipped my notice... And one of them's the one you're intent on using my title for. Eh, I can do it! Babble at the Big Tease = "Meeting by the Big Bridge" Hazy Mysteries = "Pondering the Protorelic" Mog House = "Mog's Theme - Rebirth" Enter the Mogstool = "For Our Happiness, Kupo" Murk Lurk = "The Swamplands - Where Scaled Fiends Slither" Introgardsormr = "The Island Stirs" HEBI YAKINIKU = "Impaler" Into the Mines... = "Deeper into Darkness Now we're gettin' into the weeds, feels like. The good news is Chapter 2 lays a lot of groundwork as open-worldy zones go, so most chapters aren't that long in terms of new tracks by my count. The Akira concert shows just how absurdly stuffed this game is even at the margins, though; I shudder to imagine how much money they put into the music alone.
@patrickrainvilleКүн бұрын
Truly mind boggling the seemingly blank cheque they gave the sound team on this game. "Pondering the Protorelic" --- YOINK! As always, all these titles are fantastic. Thanks for commenting!

If you weren't aware there are English versions of the Akira songs. I think this happens a few times throughout the game, the main Solemn Gus theme for example has a different version on the album to the English version.

Hi! Love your channel. Question, is the Chadley theme related at all to Barret's theme from FF7 OG?
@patrickrainvilleКүн бұрын
Oh SNAP! How have I never made that connection?! I know the exact section you’re talking about; that little ascending melody is indeed super similar! I’m guessing it’s a coincidence though, just because Uematsu isn’t credited as co-composer on Chadley’s Theme, and Shotaro Shima tracks are usually pretty good about crediting Uematsu. I was trying to think of a narrative reason for it, since on a surface level I don’t think Barret and Chadley have much of a relationship lol, BUT both are essentially trying to sabotage Shinra, so they have that in common (although you could say the same about almost all the characters…) Damn I’m gonna have to ponder this nugget for a bit. Thanks for sharing!
