I love how everyone complained that the chorus in Sephiroth's theme was too late in Remake, so the second he enters the final phase here in Rebirth, the chorus is the *first* thing you hear.

Seeing Cloud and Zack fight, you see certain aspects of their fighting style. Cloud has affinity with the Buster Sword but os wholly reliant on it to deliver both quick and powerful blows. Zack has owned the Buster Sword longer and understands the nuance of using such a large blade. Therefore, he opts to attack with his body in conjunction with the weighted swings of the sword to get the most optimal and balanced damage per second. Cloud has variety while Zack has consistency.

This is very well shown in their win pose. Cloud spins his sword only a couple times with difficulty and then rests it on his shoulder while Zack spins it many times with ease before attaching it effortlessly on his back. Brilliant attention to details.

There's just something so harrowing about the part at 4:59 that I love so much, it isn't a leitmotif of anything and it's so disconnected of a melody that the only thing you hear is the ambient noise of the hollow expanse you're in. I'd assume most people wouldn't care about that segment but man... I'm so glad the entire Sephiroth Reborn vs Cloud sequence isn't just a reoccurring song or long even, just like a 30 secondish loop of that piece alone

I just watched a live orchestra play this last night, Dec 13, 2024 in Edmonton Alberta, Canada. They are doing a world tour and I must say... The whole performance was breathtaking but the part that really stood above, the part that sent chills live was when the choir started chanting at 12:33... from then on it was surreal, 13:50 onward was unlike anything I've ever seen or felt anywhere. If they are coming to an area near you I highly recommend it. I bought a PS1 back in '97 to get FF7 when it came out, I feel so fortunate that this is the one game that gathered enough appreciation that it was remade to the highest degree I've ever witnessed.

Estuans Interius. ( Burning inside) Ira Vehementi, (In amaritudine.....as it goes on in Carmina Burana) (Amidst violent rage) . Sors Immanis (inhumane fate) Et inanis (and empty) Veni Veni Venias ( Come come Come) Ne me mori facias (Make me not die) Gloriosa, Generosa (Glorious, Generous) Bits of Carl Off"s CARMINA BURANA that make Sephiroth's theme. They are from different and unrelated poems of the piece, but one thing binds them all here: PASSION and FURY. The first 4 verses are bound to Sephiroth's descomunal and murderous Rage that posesses him in the begining of Clouds story. He curses his destiny as an experimental aberration (Sors Immanis and Inanis) in the same dark tone of O Fortuna's choir. As for the last 3 verses we have quotes from the ending of the carmina that are spoken among lovers amidst springs lucious ferver. They want to unite with one another and say " Come quickly, or ill die from love, you are glorious and perfect." The gloriosa is taken from the final acclamation made to APHRODITE in the composition, wich they call QUEEN OF THE WORLD. So this last part contains in itself SEPHIROTHS LONGING and his embracing of his MOTHERS NATURE and his fate as CHOSEN ONE. He stops cursing his orign and is now proud of it. We have 6 verses before the GLORIOSA . 6 is the number of WINGS that SERAPHINS have. So this is quite symbolic and beautifully crafted, its not an accidental choice of verses as it first seemed to me, im amazed. In total we can sum up 7, wich is the number of celestial perfection: heaven had 7 levels. There are 7 archangels. Another numeric coincidence. Lastly, if we add the refrains MISERERE NOBIS and SEPHIROTH we have 9, the most astounding number here. NINE is the number of Angelic Choirs in heaven, or in more straight words: the types of angels of heaven. From greatest to minors: SERAPHINS, CHERUBINS, THRONES, DOMINIONS, POWERS, VIRTUES, PRINCIPALITIES, ARCHANGELS and ANGELS. Since Serphiroth is a LUCIFERINE figure (this goes since his physical aspect to his story of prowess, pride, treason and downfall) we can relate him to the fallen angels. Classical theology speculates if Lucifer was a Seraphim (the greatest among the already greatest choir of angels), a Cherubim or even an Archangel. The One Wing is a reference to ABEZETHIBOU, a famous demon in classic esoterism that followed Belzebul against god and had one of his wings ripped off when he fell to Hell. His wing was red. In the final form; SAFER SEPIROTH, he has 6 white wings, wich is the mark of a seraphin, plus his iconic black wing to make him more stylish. Finally, the most important here: the fact that Cloud defeats Sephiroth while he himself is a LOW RANK soldier serves as a parallel to MICHAEL, that was an humble and small Archangel recognized for DEHTRONING SATAN from heaven. Thats it, the whole game has many symbols and references from judaism/christianism, Kaballah and even Norse mithology (midgar, midgarsommr) in it. PURE ART I MUST SAY.

But here's the thing... The Black Wing was only added first in the Advent Children movie. (KH had more of a dark blue wing) Safer Sephiroth's wing... Was indeed Red. So it was a direct reference to ABEZETHIBOU. And if I may add... The Whisper's theme is musically based off the Carmina Burana. Most important the 'Sors immanis' section. You're fighting against inhumane fate when you fight the Whispers.

@OlorinCirdan Well it isn't a choral piece for the most part. But you'll definitely hear a strong, although non-identical similarity to that part. You can also hear it in the 4th and final movement of One Winged Angel Rebirth. (From FFVII Remake, not Rebirth, as confusing as it is)

Also keep in-mind that the reason why the number 9 is associated with the song is because of Sephiroth's name itself, which is taken directly the 10 Sephiroth of the Judeo mystic practice of Kabbalah; the choir sings Sephiroth 9 times and Sephiroth himself is the 10th.

I’m 99% sure it’ll be in Part 3. They used a more ominous theme for this fight because it’s a dark part of the story. Birth of a God has more of a rock sound which works better for the battle at the North Crater than it would here.

All I could ask for is that the final boss vs safer Sephiroth in part 3 has phase 1 using the Remake version of OWA, phase 2 using this version (ideally the Final Phase version) and phase 3/ the final phase using a recreated but 1 to 1 copy of the original with the full orchestra

That version of sephiroth is not safer sephiroth, it Is the version we fight in the gongaga reactor in the og iirc

You only ever fight Sephiroth as Bizzaro & Safer in the Northern Crater in the OG. All you fight at the Gongaga reactor in OG is Big Wheel, AKA Tankceratops, which is now a 4-legged dinosaur-like enemy in Rebirth during a side quest in the region.
