The "Illigal" Version you showed in this is not consistent. you showed a mix between the fan remake one and the actual version. The actual version is hard to find but is done before. You can tell by the less Polishness and the asset rips

A friend tried to remake FF1 back in 2000-something, early 2000's. He only managed to recreate the world map and the first area before he lost interest. I don't think a lot of people realize how much work an RPG takes, even if it's 2D .. it's always a lot of work.

It makes me think of the time I was in a random video store and saw "Street Fighter 2" placed among the NES releases. No box. I was really curious at the time what it was, but I was only in that store once. I suspect it would have been the Street Fighter 2010 game. There was also another store which had Japanese Famicon games labelled "Mario Baby" and "Mario Invisible". I never found out what "Mario Invisible" was, but "Mario Baby" was actually a NES game called Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa in Japan. It helped that Bio Miracle's invincibility power up music sounded a LOT like the star powerup music from Mario. That, or someone actually bootlegged the game to put in a soundalike tune, it's been a long, long time since I saw it on the original TV in the very early 90's. Yes Roms exist, but I have been unable to confirm the tune from them.

I love these hazy memories, as I kid I remember playing my Gameboy in Greece, being joined by local Greek kids with their Gameboys. One of them pulls out Super Mario Land 4 and I was like WTF!

I have to correct you on something. The PS1 used pseudo-3D. It used triangular sprites to replicate 3D layering them on top of each other, and though the CD format was boasted to have superior storage size, it was in fact still SMALLER than that of the N64 cartridge. Case in point, Resident Evil 2, in ALL of it's glory, was able to fit on an N64 cartdige, when it needed 2 discs for the PS1. The bulk of FF7 on PS1 was the FMVs, which at the time were MASSIVE video files.

I own a repro cartridge of FFVII on the NES. I’ve actually never played through it though. I think I played the reactor and then put it on my shelf as just something cool to own.

Lugia was the exact name of the development team that I heard about. Because I'm a learner of the internet. Basically I was trying to get my foot in the door. But with no success. But I did hear of their starting the project back in 2003 I had no idea that they actually finished it. Sometimes I wonder how my life would have been if I just would have continued down the programming path. Maybe next time when God gives me another quarter to put in the machine I'll try it a different way.
