You are slightly wrong on FF Mobius, it also tanked due to being hacked due to cheat Engine on PC and Mobile, no one was purchasing Magicite, I know several people (inc moi) who used the cheat engine to do the infinite roulette avoiding paying money (which was reduced close to 0). So in the end the security of the game was rather poor, it was hackable and people were completing missions with little effort and purchasing high end jobs from free magicite. There was no way to save it, think of PS1 security in games. No one was being banned for it, People done extensive testing and they were only banning if you got ridiculous numbers in the tower battle events. To me Mobius was a testing ground on computer security on future mobile games released by SE from external programs, as well as being a precoursor to FF7 Remake like you said.

It's not just mobile. It's the 'always online' or 'server only' attitude games have built in nowadays. So many are designed so if they can't connect to the server, they don't work, even if they're single player games. So when the server is removed permenantly, unless you can imitate it (or mod it which isn't always an option for console), that's game over.

@@thomaspickin9376 I'm sure they do this to prevent people cheating the game... but would be nice if they just removed the server connection requirement from the mobile games so that if you still have them installed, you can keep playing them.

But you have to admit, FF14 had the most meta way of handling failure, by actually reconciling the failure of 1.0 into the actual story of the game (the fall of Dalamud). They even have little Easter eggs spread throughout A Realm Reborn like the Goobbue with mold and flowers growing over it as a throwback to all the players who formed a great Goobbue Wall before the server shutdown.

Ironically, I was thinking how well I handled the failure of FF14 as a game! I just refunded it lol. Honestly, past 9 I think the FF series went in the wrong direction. FF7 Remake for instance, it's a great game in it's own right but it's nothing like FF7. It plays more like Kingdom Hearts but a teenager version rather than for kids... Mind you, by the time FF7 was released I was already 15 so I guess by the time FF14 came around I had moved on and found better RPG's that stayed with that classic RPG format. Also I think it's so easy to download and emulate all these old titles, that it doesn't even matter that the official shop doesn't sell it. I still have my original PS1 FF9 discs, plus ROMS - and more than happy to emulate these on my Batocera box upscaled to 1080p with 60fps hacks on. Perfect.

@@DailyCorvid You really should give FF14 another try. It's been completely redesigned, and they even added features that allow you to play 90% of the game solo. With this new feature called "Duty Support" you can form an AI party to go into dungeons and you no longer have to play with others, excluding the final boss fight for the expansions and Trials. As for your comment about things going down hill after 9, I would disagree. I really enjoyed FFX, didn't like X-2 that much, I really loved 12 (anything in Ivalice I love, including Vagrant Story and FF Tactics), Then FF13 happened, and it's not THAT bad, then FF13-2 was amazing, then FF13-3 was 🗿. FF14 1.0 was terrible, but now FF14 is one of my favorite of all time. Heavensward, Shadowbringer, and Endwalker stories are 10/10. Amazing stories, characters, music; parts of Heavensward and Shadowbringer had me in tears, I mean literal tears. The highs and lows just hit so hard, and I can't sing its praises enough.

Seriously? That's awesome. Never played an MMO including FF ones, and probably never will, so I had no idea what went wrong with 14 1.0 and even less about how they actually made it part of the plot (thought Realm Reborn was just a fancy way to say 2.0). I'm still not sure what this "wall" was - from what I saw, those goobue guys are mounts for the characters, and the shutdown was preceded by a "calamity" where monsters would raid everything, so the players freaking ROLEPLAYED that shit and made a wall to protect the place, and the DEVS ACKNOWLEDGED IT! Shit, dude, that gave me some serious goosebumps - those are the best experiences gaming can offer, and you can't plan that kind of stuff in advance. Are there more cool references to 1.0? FF rarely disappoints. It may give you something you weren't expecting, which is what they do since the first sequel, but it's a treat for those open-minded enough to see what they'll come up with next.

The haunting version of Answers is both a buff and inflicting emotional damage. But I love how they come back to it over and over. Imagine being Yoshi-P. He’s given the reins of a dying game and has the cahonas to tell his bosses, “The game cannot be salvaged. Let’s build a story that leads to a relaunch. We owe it to our fans.” And they bought in! The man understands how to create a vision with a story.

Them shutting down Möbius is something I forgot about yet still hold a lot of memories with. It really did have some enjoyable gameplay and a story that really would’ve been worth revisiting more. It’s games like that and Nintendo’s Dragalia Lost that makes me hate the idea of all these companies making so many mobile titles that have such high focus on story because all that would just be waste of everyone’s time from the players to the scenario writers as their work would all be delisted soon after.

If only they did something like with kingdom hearts where the silver lining was that the story was there offline even when you could no longer play the game, because I don't think we ever got to see the end of Mobius Final Fantasy, but then again the power scaling at like chapter 6 or something it's been way too long was crazy, and events like with FF13 with Paradigm shifts being only for said event was also kinda sad but also fun

Mobius was nice looking and had a lot of good aspects. I think, for me, one of its biggest weaknesses was actually its art. Not because it was bad, but because they would feature random made up original characters instead of classic characters. For example, if they made a card for "The Turks", it would probably have some unknown rando drawn on the card. If I want to collect FF stuff, I want it to look like the things I know and love! Put the actual Turks on the card! Anyway, I remember that being a major disappointing factor in it for me, compared to Exvius, which was more reminiscent of old gameplay/style and was always featuring collectable characters we knew and loved along with the original content.

Everyone was using cheat engine to gain gems for pulls. No one was paying money for Mobius when the cheats got out. Everyone was doing 1000000 clears in the roulette when it's only possible to get at most 150 over a season.

I really wish they would've made an effort to convert it to a cross platform single player game. Just have all the events be based on progression instead of actual time, and still have the gacha draw for items with an in game currency. I would've happily paid for it.

The ending showing the trailer for First Soldier and never actually mentioning First Soldier feels like such a power move, lmao. There are a lot of mobile games that are lost media now, but I miss them all the same. The one I miss the most is probably Idle Poring, which was my favorite idle game, and Ragnarok themed. There's also some old games I forgot the name of and can't find any footage of, one being a side-scrolling beat-em-up where you play as a magical swordsman. The corners of the screen correspond to elements, and by dragging your finger from corner to corner, you combine elements to do super moves. It was challenging to perform those motions mid-combo but very satisfying. Maybe one day I'll find it again, or at least a screenshot of it.

Watching this video made me sad and angry. Sad because I absolutely loved FF Record Keeper and Mobius(especially with that FF10 storyline which was one of the most exciting times for me when it came to mobile) and both games were such massive memories of my teenage years. The anger part is that I have no idea that there was one version of FF Agito/Type 0 that was meant for the PS Vita which is my favorite handheld and I would have instantly bought it and now I’m upset that it was cancelled

I still believe that FFVII: The First Solder would have done very well IF it was brought to consoles and PC. I enjoyed the few matches I played over its lifespan, but I've never been a fan of mobile controls so I didn't wanna invest heavily into it.

Möbius was a really good mobile game. Sadly, to me, the second part got kinda lackluster with the story and they also changed the playstile just a little, but kept the playstile of first part as it was, which made me fall of. When Square Enix announced its cancellation, i went back in and recorded a lot of footage, because as a f2p player i got so lucky with character pulls that i had a lot of the Ultimate-Hero cards and they re-ran all the events. A little bit of that footage is on my YT-page (more a video-archive for me, than a channel), in a Playlist and more than 60GB on a harddrive, i still want to edit. I had to record the sound and video separately, so a lot to do and i just dont find the time to do so. Its all in german with English voice over, or bad, or no sound. But, a lot of people did this, its all on KZbin, so no big loss to me over all.

I'd like it if they did a quest line where you can re-live some of the events of XIV 1.0. There are already some that summarise some parts of XIV's story, but it would be nice to have a quest line that summarises it, and maybe reinvents some of the dungeons and boss fights from 1.0.

@@Psyk60 All dungeons are boss fights from 1.0 are in 2.0. Trials (ifrit, mog, garuda) are all the same, dungeons are all remade. 1.0 dungeons were open and maze like, wouldn't work in 2.0 that is why they changed it.

Being a big Final Fantasy 7 fan myself, I grew up with all of it and watching all of it emerge: you had Final Fantasy 7 on PlayStation one, you had Final Fantasy Crisis Core oh, you had Final Fantasy before crisis, Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus on PlayStation 2. Now I know Dirge of Cerberus has received a lot of mixed reviews and most of the reviews being negative due to the gameplay and whatnot, but I must say it was an amazing game as a sequel to the story seeing the conclusion with Vincent Valentine and also having a tie in with some of the characters of Crisis Core and the villains from Mako reactor zero. When you complete that game and you see the true ending to the game, they can't leave you hanging like that because it shows that the Saga can still continue. But now with the remake out and the sequels to that and the slight changes they've made, I will wholesomly and understandably see that the Final Fantasy 7 of the PlayStation 1 era might actually be closed and that Universe might be over. But look on the bright side, lol, at least a couple hundred years later red XIII shows that we win😊

@joegardner851 game helped me grow, just as a player of br's. I scrapped 499 in Soldier prime in S1, to top 100 in The final season. Going from camping with smoke and blizzard and melee only. To the caption of a team in the one and only tourny. IrohNakamura was my name, and in life. Alot of the ambassadors and lots of people I met in game, got me outta my shell, and it's thanks to FS. I have a partner in my life, and the confidence to pursue her. My pfp is my character model from in game, I got to make myself in a ff7 setting and live a life I wanted since a kid.

The Steam mobile ports of 5 and 6 are still available directly from SquareEnix store. The pixel remasters didn't include the extra content from those. Also, mods.

FFXIV 1.0 and the story of its rebirth has to be one of the most unique and frankly interesting stories in gaming histories. The Noclip documentary 3 part video really puts everything into perspective on all the behind the scenes details about how the multi-year process of rebuilding the game, the technical issues of 1.0, and the path forward from ARR, really puts this game into a much better perspective. All that being said, Yoshi-P has put this very bluntly, 1.0 is dead and gone, and while the history of 1.0 is super interesting and something that should never be forgotten, it should never be revisited (it’s been brought up in recent years with the ongoing trend of re-releasing old titles, or even going back to MMO titles like WoW and re-vitalizing Vanilla and the older expansions. I used to play Type 0 online and it always bothered me that we never got an official release in the west, if you wanted to play it at all you had to play it on the Bluestacks emulator. It just sorta broke one day and obviously no attempts to contact support for a non-English game were going to help so I'd entirely forgotten about it until this video. I'm still upset about how they treated Type 0 on the whole, and if I had to pick one to revive I wouldn't pick the mobile game anyway, but it's deeply cynical that this was the project that survived longest.

Seeing Brave Exvius of all games still alive while Record Keeper and Mobius have been shut down is depressing. I played Mobius for a couple of months around the start of season 2, and even though I got sick of it the way I do all mobile games, the inspiration was obvious. The visuals, the music, the story, you can tell how much effort went into it all, and how the creators had big plans for it. Seeing its plans get cut short just like that genuinely makes me sad in a way I don't feel for other mobile games.

Never got to play Mobius because of it's high spec requirements at the time, but I played enough FFRK over the years to know that its biggest downfall was locking the complexity of gameplay behind gacha mechanics. Sure, the characters could be acquired for free, but the weapons that actually unlocked the abilities worth using were tied behind gacha pulls. By contrast, compare that against FFBE. Sure, unit acquisition is purely a game of gacha chance in FFBE, but FFBE didn't hide the bulk of character abilities behind equipment pulls. The only thing standing between you and your FFBE units reaching their full potential is deciding to pull for EX3 right away or spending time running those units through the shard dungeon. FFRK had no such analogous system. If you didn't pull your limited time unit's best-in-slot weapons during their active FFRK banners, you were pretty much screwed on that unit.

Mobius FF was such an incredible game! ❤ It was like a perfect mix between the old and the new FF games: it had knights, princesses , and castles, but the graphics, the gameplay , the musics gave me FF13 trilogy vibes. This game was criminally underrated because it was a mobile game, but if SE released a console version, people would see how good it is! "None shall remember those who do not fight." ALL of these games can be downloaded a ROMS and emulated on a basic PC for free. Takes about an hour in total to set-up and get into the title screen. I play upscaled to 1080p and hacks to give me 60FPS and save states are also available.

I have both a Wii U with the full version of The After Years downloaded to it and a physical copy of FF4 Collection for PSP. Ironically, I've never played the 3D remake, was hoping they'd eventually port it to Switch but that seems unlikely at this point

A couple of these are effectively out of print rather than not playable, just in digital form. FF4 TAY on the Wii can still be redownloaded if you already bought it. But you need to have the physical console you bought it on as purchases are tied to the console rather than an account. The PSP version is also still available to buy via the Vita store. The same is true for the old mobile/PC versions of V and VI. If you bought them you can still redownload them, they just aren't for sale any more.

Final Fantasy Grandmasters, takes place in Vana’diel (FFXI’s world) and was meant to be a tie in between the last expansion of FFXI and the planned FFXI remake for mobile. An online game never released outside Japan, and on mobile only, it closed up in April 2019.

I know not a lot of people played Legacy, and I've heard that the mods on it were jerks (never met them), but man oh mally was that a unique experience when I found it. I know there's a mobile "Final Fantasy Legacy" and that's not what I'm referring to. I'm talking about the Byond Final Fantasy Legacy, the "MMO" one. Kinda doubt it's on this list, but man that was an amazing game. My boy Benjamin is one of my favorite FF characters, and I was stoked as hell when I unlocked the "Hero" class.

Everyone in my linkshell in FFXI were excited to check out FFXIV when it was announced, and were disappointed at how bad it was. I can't remember what the source was, but it was said SE had purchased a partially developed game, and used that unfinished game as a framework to hasten production, and save on development costs. That's supposedly what caused the many bugs since not all of the code was written in-house by SE. Not sure if that story has any truth to it, but that's what was being said at the time.

Hacked APKs on android for FFBE. It's not going anywhere. If you cheat make sure to stay off and well away from any leaderboards during events. I have all the stuff whales do and I didn't spend a penny.

Now that Record Keeper is gone I'm so sad. That was one of the most fun F2P games I ever played, and it wasn't a game that forced you to whale just to enjoy it. It had so many deep cut references for every character (I mean, Cloud had his attacks from FF Tactics for example) The story they made for the game was good, the characters were charming, and the gameplay was fun. I really will miss it.

I really liked Mobius but my phone wasnt good enough back then and i disliked the toned down graphics for low res. Years later when i joined back again i had such a blast with the game and all the new cards and jobs available and such a long and ongoing story. Sad thing is i joined back into the game weeks before its shutdown in our region. I couldnt even finish the story to the furthest point available and I wanted to max some jobs i received but actually I couldnt. Still feels bad man. I also do think that if the release wouldve happened nowadays it wouldve been a much bigger success since its easy to play, story driven + mp mode and has a good story you could follow through. Also maybe some better offers like battle pass and stuff so it could survive for much longer. Really miss this game, the only game I would go back to while ditching everything else on my mobile if i could, heck maybe even prefering this game rather than my ps5 for now.

Maybe less common now days being how old XIV is now, but look on a character's back between the shoulders if they character has open back clothing on, if there a tattoo there, that mean they played 1.0 and the character was transferred over to 2.0

SE hasnt been able to make a mobile game as good as mobius and its so tragic it went the way it did. Because it was in house it had access to assets for collab with other SE titles before they were out. A playable ff7r cloud was in mobius long before it came out. There's a moment in ff14 stormblood that was directly used as an LB for a playable Y'shtola long before that patch dropped. I loved mobius for that, it was a quality game and a sneak peek at what was down the pipeline.

The sad part about FFIV TAY's 3D Remake is that the bonus bosses you'd face at "The Crystal" chapter (being the last one) are not there, it would've been interesting to see those bosses in 3D.

You can technically play some of thesse if you already own them. the FF5/6 steam versions still work, and you can make a server and try out ff14, just as an example. So they aren't completely lost(i still havent played the pixel remastered versions but i did finish the old steam ones for 5/6)
