I am SO stoked to watch this series. FF8 is one of my all-time favorite games, not just FF games. Watching about 10 minutes of this was all I needed to convince myself to buy this version on my PS4. Super excited to learn a few things from watching! Keep it up man!

VIII was my first FF game. I remember I got up to Galbadia Garden on disk 2, but my brother made me start over when he realised I only used GF's. He sat down with me and taught me how to use the junction system properly. When we have time, we sometimes play the remaster together. I had to rewind a few times during your video though coz the dialogue boxes went by too quickly.

When I was in 8th grade, a guy had been bullying me for months. After playing ff8 I took kick-boxing lessons to defend myself. When I stumbled across zells limit break I was mesmerised! Unfortunately the guy who had been bullying me tried it again… it was then that I decided to implement zells limit break into my kickboxing. I started with a Mach kick and finished him off with the booya! The entire school was cheering for me and my crush kissed me. I asked her to the prom and she said yes of course. However, at the prom a man kidnapped her and wanted $20,000 for her safe return. It was then that myself and Amy’s father devised a plan where we’d trick the assailant into thinking he was receiving the cash. When he met at the drop off point I tightened my shoe laces and did zells my final heaven! To no surprise I didn’t run around the entire earth, but instead ran around the car park and landed the cleanest left hook ever! My Amy was safe and I’d saved her father a ransom of $20,000! Upon returning home I was featured in my local paper and was awarded the Jamanglethon medal of bravery. I owe this game a lot .

No. That's actually a basic speedrun strat, as it's faster to do that than to log into the console and retrieve the GFs.

I'm pretty sure that the original version Quistis won't give you GFs. The very first time I played this game I got Quetz and Shiva on Disc 2 because I missed the terminal. (I was so young and couldn't read Japanese so...)

I've played FF7, FF9, FF15 (although that one is obviously way different), and am just getting to FF8. I tried to play the game for a little over an hour, barely made it past the fire cave before giving up because I have no clue what's going and looked up the walkthrough. Even now I'm incredibly confused. Let me tell you; it's not just you. This story and game feel all over the place.

PSA use the enc none cheat when GF has low health and they will heal themselves via steps. The magic miner achievement can also be done this way, you have 5 draw points, >blizzard in TC >thunder by balamb weap shop >fire in fire cavern > cure by garden entrance and in the mountains, yes you can find it without the move/find ability. Best cards imo early are as follows Quistis Mini mog ( great for sacrifice/trap plays) Elnoyle ( great corner card) Evoret ( card bite bugs, open field trio seems to be most generous, great low corner card) Ifrit ( great mid to low right corner card) Essentially allows you to create noose strat which will almost always guarantee draw or win

I typically replay these and watch an LP or guide along the way. There is one guy I usually use for FF games but I'm gonna try out yours. Hope you list your party setup in the description at some point when things get more complex. Just makes life easier and a big selling point when playing along. Disc 1 is practically memorized but 2-4 is hazy.

Near the save point in garden, you can you can use the white board thing to teleport to each sector of the garden at the early stages if I remember rightly. I think it does stop working at somepoint in the game, maybe when the garden becomes a vehicle?

I know this is old but for anyone using this walkthrough, the timber maniacs at the Balamb Inn isn't missable, only 1 is and its at the white seed ship. Also, grabbing that magazine will change a future scene with laguna and Julia in Julia's room during the flashback.

It's much different. the cutscenes and background are unchanged as it would entail rewriting the whole game for some reason. But cards, characters enemies bang GF's are much better (except Siren for our monkey brains)

Btw: A remaster is not a remake guys, It's basically a freshened up version with better character models etc, but the background pretty much hasn't been changed. It's still the original version with full controller support and tweaks for modern day hardware..

Yeah this "remaster" leaves a lot to be desired, I would even hardly call it a remaster, all they did was swapped the character models, but still it's FF8 and any reason to replay it is good enough for me. Fun fact I'm about 10h into the game and still haven't taken the final seed exam. :)

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but if it's pixelated for you on PC, you can change the settings, so it looks better. Took someone 3 hours to figure it out, after complaining about it so much on FB. Lol. It looks better on PS4 without messing with settings. & it was DotEmu that had did the work on this, with Squares say on quality I'm sure.

I only notice in game upgrades with remastered games. It would be super expensive to reduce the fmvs. However this games fmvs definitely stand the test of time from a PSone. Wow that is still really smooth for the platform.

I think the one thing I always secretly wished for was more (optional) backstory for GF's. Kinda like the Aeons in X having lives before they were summons, and the little glimpses of who they were. Actually, speaking of optional reading, the magazines were one my favorite parts of 8. Normally in games, I just take the upgrades and ignore information, but I loved reading about the weapon upgrades, and PuPu's sightings... I really love certain things about this game, just wish they'd kept the simple brilliance of Materia or something like it. "Junction" worked great on paper, I'm sure!

It's a shame they didn't put a kind of speed selection in there rather than just x3 speed. My main problem with ff8 was always that the gameplay was a bit slow, but x3 speed looks way too fast. Come on Square, how difficult is it to find a happy medium?

Set the battle system to wait amd lower the game speed all the way down and set squalls gunblade to auto its still faster than max battle speed

you start with open in balamb but when you play the fisherman he wipes balambs rules out

Battle boost is "full ATB, Full HP and Always Limit break" with regards to cards you abolished open, you can speak to the queen of cards outside the train station to buy it back for 30,000 gil

Cards are for a mini game, pressing square to interact with people allows you to play cards against them. Also quetzacotl has an ability called [card mod] it allows you to break down cards into crafting materials.

So without using the x3 speed booster. Even with battle speed set at high the game feels like it runs slower. Slower than its PS1 counterpart, because its PS1 variant never felt this slow. Anyone else noticed that or is it just me?
