@Zeeko Zappo Games need to update with the times.... you can't just keep making the same type of game year on year and expect to stay relevant. Most people don't want turn based combat outside of Japan, they want something a bit more complex and stylistic... its not about being Vapid - you can still have open flowing combat and a complex story and refined battle system that provides enough flexibility and challenge to be exciting.
@jamescalder51154 жыл бұрын
@Zeeko Zappo Just because you want to believe everyone is dumber than you for enjoying something that you don't... doesn't make it true. Just because a game doesn't have turn based combat doesn't mean it can't have depth and doesn't make it garbage - FF7 remake has a lot of depth and flexibility with the Materia system and the new ATB system - it has a reasonably lowish floor to make it appealing but it has a high ceiling if you want to push it to its limits and try to challenge yourself... It has depth especially as it goes into more detail about Midgar, wall market, etc than the original did. Its not just about appealing to the "Masses", due to the inherent change in the RPG market with more games focusing on fast and Fluid combat in an open world rather than a slower turn based system they have adapted - games have changed over the past 10 years and you have to move with them unfortunately. But more importantly just because the game doesn't appeal to you doesn't make it Vapid/Bland. I still love the original final fantasies (I have every FF ever made) but I can also appreciate the newer ones as well.
@jamescalder51154 жыл бұрын
@Zeeko Zappo Again just because you don't like it doesn't make it Vapid or Trash. The original FF7 story wasn't anything special either - it was an anime storyline just like almost every final fantasy... they are anime storylines (usually with nods to Environmental impact or Corruption). You also have to remember its only a third of the story compared to the full story we got in the original FF7 so the 2 aren't comparable as its not a self contained story - you are looking at a 3rd of the painting. You say there is nothing wrong with enjoying "Garbage" but then proceed to call anyone who does enjoy "Garbage" dumb... which implies there is something wrong with it. The game was smaller than the original... which is why there is significantly less variety in Materia, characters and abilities... bearing in mind in the original you had the basic varieties of Materia and couldn't access half of the characters when you were in Midgar (No Cid, No Yuffie, No Vincent and No Cait Sith) but this is why IMO it feels "watered down" because they are trying to limit everything based on what you had in the original game (Only Tifa, Barrett, Cloud and occasionally Aerith) whilst still trying to keep the game deep enough. I never said it was Clever or brilliant but it isn't cheap by any stretch of the imagination The game has its flaws (I don't agree with everything they did) but I enjoyed the depth they gave in terms of Midgar and did enjoy the combat system, would I have liked the option of a turn based system... yes and I think that should have implemented it but trying to pretend the game is utter garbage is a bit of a stretch.
@jamescalder51154 жыл бұрын
@UCX5b0yY4YfjJ39a_VBFZ0FA I read what you said "They’re looking to strictly appeal to the dumbed, vapid masses" thats you not calling people dumb then... FF7's story wasn't that great, especially when you look at the section this game portrays which is the opening section... you are looking at 1 section of a story and claiming the entire story is better than this one unfinished section. I meant FF7 is an anime story - which it is... its a quintessential anime story. My feelings aren't hurt at all - I just dont like when people imply that a game is dumb because they didn't like it or didn't enjoy it.

12:44 Thanks for talking about this scene, Jirard. It always bums me out when people make assumptions about "how awful this game's voice acting is." Watching the scene in context makes a huge difference. And it's one of my favorite scenes in the game! There are so many powerful moments that have their seeds planted during THIS SCENE, and blossom into some real heavy plot points later on in the story. "If we should get separated... Just whistle. I'll come running. I promise." Thanks for completing this one, Jirard, and congrats on 1 MILLION SUBS!
@NakazoraGen6 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU! Seriously, seeing a few more comments about this has really made my day. Also, you are the first to point out the bigger moment in that same cutscene (that I have seen in this video's comment section that is). The laugh was just a snippet. That never gets mentioned again outside of that scene, and even then the most that anyone does is make a snarky comment about how weird it was and then move on. The whistle though... that is the most important part of that whole scene.
@insomniacat276 жыл бұрын
Exactly! It leaves me grinding my teeth when I hear people genuinely take issue with the voice acting based on that scene which is likewise taken out of context. On top of it all. I always felt there's a point to be made that while Tidus is trying to make light of the situation. Yuna isn't aware that, Tidus at the time is unaware of her fate at the end of the journey. It's rather dark. He thinks he's trying to lighten up what's just a long journey, and instead is helping her through accepting her own death. Kinda making it more awkward considering the idea of it all being a death march
@devilovesdevil6 жыл бұрын
It was makes me question those people that do that cuz its like so you never did something stupid or said something stupid or funny for that matter to make a sad friend smile or laugh, to ease the tension? That whistle scene right after solidified they got eachothers back they only need to reach out with a whistle.

13:08 THANK YOU! I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS! It is an awkward scene... BECAUSE IT IS MEANT TO BE AWKWARD! And also, the scene lasts maybe 30 seconds. People who point to that as a reason why the game is bad are really grasping at straws. If 30 seconds of a game can determine if it is good or bad, I guess I should know if I'm going to like a game as soon as I turn it on, right? If I don't like the logo of the companies that took part in making a game, the game must be trash, right? ... sorry, that particular topic has been a bit of a sore point for me simply due to how much it gets sited as a reason to diss the rest of the game. If you don't like a game, you don't like it. No need to grasp at straws trying to make people who do like it look bad.
@toongrowner16 жыл бұрын
Absolutly agree with you. Whenever I see someone bringing the laughing up I allways wonder "have you actually played the game? Have you actually seen the scene and the context behind it? This vid brought tears to my eyes seriously. My personal history with FFX mirrors the feel of this video, my best friend since middle school and I used to stay up all night playing this game, taking turns with one of us being the player and the other being a navigator. We would trade off during the side quests, putting in shifts till the job was done. This game showed me a talent I never knew I had, when I would find items hidden in the map that were not even in the official strategy guides, just because something in the terrain looked out of place. And later in life, as I introduced my wife to video games, this got to be her first real FF title, and I got the pleasure again to be her co-pilot. Making the romances and work that much more real to us in our lives. One day I even hope to put a controller in the hands of my child and take on the guide roll once again through the land of Spira and those who dwell in it. Thank you Jirard for reminding me why I do what I do, and why I love video games.

In case you actually haven't played to that point, yet let me explain: You need to spam Quick Hit here to get enough turns to kill Penance's arms fast enough, so neither of them get a single turn. If they do get a single turn, they will inflict a status effect on you, that reduces your defence. If Penance then gets a turn, he will use Obliteration, which (due to the defence reduction) will kill you. He can also use another ability, when his arms are still alive by then. Small tip: If you want to finish the final faze of the final boss with ease, remember that Sin's core (name being held back due to spoilers) is susceptible to the Zombie status. Apply the the status, toss a Phoenix Down, sit back and roll the credits. Sure, it is a Gimmie fight due to being unable to die, but what it made you do to your own Aeons, cheesing it's final form is cathartic.

As a diehard fan, it was tough because it was such a long, hard and thorough death. While I wasn't on Patreon, I stuck around to the very end, the last Reb Brown month. The bipolar issues, channel awesome departure drama, his control freak issues in response to his fans (toxic or otherwise), that's all secondary for me. What it all came down to is he just stopped making videos and shifted to mediocre streams. And then for months on end he'd stop doing everything. He had a unique voice, but he just stopped. The #1 source of his issues is he gave up. And I feel for the guy, because giving up on doing something you're great at is a tragedy. Edit: And congrats to Jirard on the 1 million. Been a few weeks so I think I can allow myself one finger pointing at one flaw, so that newcomers don't hate on it for wrong reasons : 19:30 . You *don't need* to reset your stats to get new prizes. New ones reappear after a few matches. And this is important to specify because "water squash" is waaaaay more annoying at low level, while it gets a bit more interesting (and, more importantly, way easier, thus less frustrating) at higher level. Resetting stats is only a way to get a new prize immediatly instead of having to complete 2-3 matches. But I had way more fun with that tiny grind and, then, crushing the other teams than my friends who decided to "rush" it by resetting. Especially since it took me only a tiny bit longer, since I didn't had to restart lost matches, since I didn't lose my matches, since I was high level. Blitz can be fun.^^ Or at least not-a-chore.

Eh, I found it much easier playing at a lower level. Can't speak from experience when playing at a higher level, but I didn't want to deal with Nimrook level'ing up his catch. Once I saw it went up to 19, I was like nope. Time to reset, or forfeit.

@toongrowner16 жыл бұрын
@Mr. Seemingly Expected You clearly don't seem to get the situation. It's not ignoring the problem, quiet the opposite. There is a huge problem yes, but what brings it to be constantly worried and being depressed about it? They are laughing to keep strong, to stay positive no matter how hard it's get. They still have joy that keeps them going and motivates them even more to fight the problem. And this is not as easy as you may think. And this is something that also part of real life. Life can sometimes be shit and awefull, but what brings it be constantly feel down because of that? Just being sad about it doesn't bring anything, it doesn't solve the problem. It pretty much makes it worse. And is actually more a form of "ignoring the problem". Still having joy, still being able to laugh and keep going, even when times are hard is one of the most difficult yet strongest thing a person can do. If you had the slightest idea of depression, you would know that.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE FINAL FANTASY GAME!!! rip to when you decide to complete final fantasy x-2

Yeah... FFX was a piece of art with a melancholy if not outright depressing under/overtones throughout. Even when you win... Someone Had to die. Either Yuna and countless people of future generations, or Tidus, Auron, the summons, and Every person dreamed up within the Fayth... X-2 seemed like they wanted to make up for Yuna's depressing arc of marching towards her death, only to instead give up everything she ever knew, living the path she walked her whole life, and having to watch the person who made it possible to permanently kill Sin, live, and who she fell deeply in love with... Die. And he Knew that he'd die, but chose to die to make the world safe for her and everyone else... However they kind of overshot it and made Yuna and company super bubbly and borderline airheaded...
