After putting just under 400 hours into "Breath of the Wild," I am proud to say that I have THE ULTIMATE COMPLETION GAME FILE!!! What exactly does that mean? Basically, it's an OCD person's wet dream! I defeated Calamity Ganon! I conquered all four divine beasts! I finished all 120 shrines, and found all the treasure chests inside them! I found all 900 korok seeds, and obtained one piece of golden poop! I finished every single side quest AND shrine quest! I unlocked all my memories! I filled in the entire Hyrule Compendium! I found, and fully upgraded, every piece of armor AND horse armor! Finally, if you look at my inventory, I have exactly 50 of every single item in the game (excluding fairies since you can't carry that many)! What's that? What about all the extra content? That's right! I also obtained ALL the amiibo armor/items as well, and upgraded them all! I completed all the DLC.... AND I DID THE SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN IN MASTER MODE!!!!!! My game file is COMPLETE!!!! I decided to leave it with Link standing on the cliff, just outside of the shrine of resurrection, looking out over Hyrule, wearing his champion's tunic, hylian trousers, and only the master sword strapped to his back, just like in his memories.

It's amusing how Jirard obviously completely missed the final interaction with Kass in Rito Village after completing all of his riddles by saying in the video that Link and Zelda have no romantic involvement in this game. Kass literally says his teacher was in love with Zelda and lamented that she "only had eyes for her appointed knight attendant" and wrote the lyric "the princess's love for her fallen knight awakens her power, and in the castle the Calamity is forced to cower". Don't make excuses for the game but criticize it so that sequels may improve on it.
@brickandorder5 жыл бұрын
@@grimoireweiss5203 I agree. I feel the storyboard of this game was somehow pieced together by cheaptalk rather than actually being stringed together with intentions based on each character's relationship to Link. Saying that collecting things is the end-all for a Zelda game is not customary of Zelda games at all. Sure you needed to collect things to meet a required deficiency. That used to be the achilles heel that we got used to. But getting rid of it basically led me to believe there was something else worth discovering. All I hear is people raving about playing a copious amount of time grinding, almost as if Kishimoto was exploiting it this time around. The puzzles, the cryochamber blueness and the Sheikah cryptic elders are so samey and I will not miss them if they are forgotten in BoTW 2. Other than that a few gimmicks I was displeased with were the durability allotments for your weaponry, the same horse and bed rental with the same salespeople everywhere, the fact that your focus on the sheikah slate makes you prone to tagging towers miles away, and just seeming overall like a waste of asset equity. I actually loved that Link DIDN'T have a voice in Breath of the Wild because, for the first time, it was actually done with intention. One of Zelda's journals in her study makes note that Link might have been through great traumas in his past that have scarred him emotionally and keep him from speaking. That's just....so damn well written. Also, Jirard, not only is there music on horseback, there's both a day AND night variant of the track (and it's easily one of my favorite songs in the game). Clearly you didn't ride a horse for more than ten second at once to not have heard the track lol.

Yeah, but isnt it stated somewhere (if not, then heavily implied at some point) that Link didn’t speak because it made it easier for him to bear the stress of his task? Idk. Maybe that’s in the same area as past traumas. Both explanations though really humanize Link and make him relatable

Zelda and link's relationship is actually confirmed as romantic in game if you read both of their diaries, hear kass's song, and know what the white flowers at the end (only shown if you get all the memories, presumedly because link needs those memories to be romantically interested in zelda) represent.

@ADTillion4 жыл бұрын
DBfan Forgive me for this late reply, as it might be redundant at this juncture but I’m guessing you’ve not engaged in conversation much in East Asian context. That style is actually the opposite of inviting him. You have to read between the lines and understand that the Japanese try to avoid being direct in such situations, so as to avoid causing someone to “lose face” by explicitly discouraging them. They already said “muri” which means impossible, in a very strong manner(there are other words to use, but they specifically chose that one), and were just being polite to his response to that: as it’s easier to give up than succeed through such frustration, especially if they expected him to do it on his own without a guide. Japanese traditionally doesn’t really have sarcasm, but this is the closest equivalent you’ll get to sarcasm. It’s difficult for other cultures to understand at times, but that’s how it is. Many westerners take such remarks at face value and often get the opposite message.

You know, I never really got the appeal of any kind of reward unlocked by 100% completion, especially when there's no new game+. Unless it's like an ending or something. A really atrocious example of this is the GCN/PS2/Xbox game, Ultimate Spider-man. In the game the reward for completing it 100% is the black Spidey suit, cool right? Well, maybe it would be, if it wasn't for the fact you're now in an empty city with nothing to do besides random fights and race replays. What's the point of a cool reward if you don't get to do anything with it?
@osurpless7 жыл бұрын
Emerald Interesting to hear of that one, and something for me to remember when I finally get around to playing it. As someone earlier mentioned, it's much older than the blue coins of Mario Sunshine, but I think it is exacerbated by the use of 3D worlds in modern gaming. Take a 2D game like Final Fantasy VI; I relished for years playing it via learning all spells. Even though some are quite useless (Carbuncle) and others are limited but take way too long to learn (Drain), it never felt like a chore. Maybe it is because the world is more digestible in 2D, making it easier for the player to become invested. Or perhaps it is just a great unexplained mystery, much like the rest of life...
@ThisIsEmerald7 жыл бұрын
Oliver Surpless I'm not really a completionist is the thing, I can respect being one for the sake of it, even admire it, and it's cool when you're rewarded for it, but if they're going to dangle a carrot on the stick that carrot better be delicious. the worst thing about the black suit reward I mentioned is that it's something I would want, I want to play the game in a black suit that would be cool, but the game gives you the black suit and then that's it, games over, you've already done everything. I don't see the point.
@osurpless7 жыл бұрын
Emerald It does seem like a no-brainer to at least have the option in all gaming; not necessarily a permanent option that requires deleting the save data/file to get rid of it, but one that can be toggled on and off. I think it may also come from the mentality of the game creator/director, as game directors are just as distinct and diverse as filmmakers, if not more so. Take Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox. The dynamic and unparalleled combat just screams for the ability to carry all the weapons you find throughout the game to a NG+, but you can't do that because the director (Tomonobu Itagaki) wanted the player to "be continually challenged". That's pretty asinine, and should be up to the player to define the gaming experience for themselves. Which is probably why the second game on 360 having such an option makes it much better for replayability, despite being a downgraded sequel overall.

You can get star fragments from silver lynels, it helps, a lot. Also you can buy all of the compendium photos, from the guy in the back of the hateno ancient tech lab. And and, if you zoom in on the map, some names will not show up, even if you know they exist, so thats a useful tip on filling up your map.
@cullenlatham23667 жыл бұрын
Jirard, the compendium says silver lynels can drop star fragments, even if as the rarest drop, at least you are getting gems and powerful weapons... the compendium can be completed with cash (didn't fight enough weak lynels, for me it was silver or nothing by the time i farmed them...) you eventually learn how to deal with rain and climbing (climbing gear + can "cheat" most cliffs...)

Some (a couple) of the Lynels remain red even after the 4 beasts are beaten. The one on top of the mountain at Zoros domain is one example. They don't all turn silver.
@cullenlatham23667 жыл бұрын
ZXBilly true, a select few lynels dont evolve as fast, but you also forget: there are 3 lynel variants (weapon-style-wise) and 3 degrees of weapon strength they can drop. I am at the " silver or nothing" point and the ones that remain weak either dont drop weapons (Hyrule castle gatehouses) or i did get a pic of (shortsword class). I needed the basic lynel spear, middle lynel spear, basic lynel crusher, middle lynel crusher, and middle shortsword. Also, i need to self fact check, but i believe the polymus mountain lynel is silver for me at this point.
@cullenlatham23667 жыл бұрын
ToastCrossDimensions: you would think, but i have also seen vids where lynels drop star fragments durring the day, so it's not exclusive to night. having a better chance at night needs some fact checking (code digging). i either have horrible luck or the drop rate is the same regardless of time of day.

Am I the only one who LOVES the rain mechanic? Let me explain. When I play the game I play the game as if I am Link. I go, where I would go, if I was Link. This is a game about exploring the wilds of Hyrule. If you're in the mountains hiking you probably won't do a lot of rock climbing in the rain. I think I'm sounding judgmental, but I don't mean to be-I just think this is interesting. I think people who hate the rain mechanic were pushing Link to go where THEY wanted to go, not were Link would choose to go. I partly blamed the shrine seeker. I turned it off because I didn't want it pulling me to go places-I wanted to explore based on sight and desire-really discover Hyrule like I did when I was five with the original. Another point I'll make is this: There isn't much story in this game; in past Zelda's you went where you could go based on the story. In this Zelda you go where you want and find story whenever. I think in BOTW the game is the story. My play-through was written by the directions I chose based on what I wanted to do and what the weather allowed me to do. And was directions I chose was based on what story I learned in the game; Link was already defeated once. He has one chance to save Hyrule now. If you had once chance to save the kingdom would you risk climbing in the rain? Okay, that sounds really judgmental but I'm just hamming it up to prove a point :) But in real life if you are hiking in the mountains you probably wouldn't chose a rainstorm as a time to rock climb. And as far as I know there isn't much equipment that helps with rock climbing in the rain. So it's more realistic considering the cold and heat mechanic. Jirard, if you see this, do me a favor. If you haven't done your play-through on hard mode yet do it like this. It will make the experience much more fun. It makes revisiting areas a blast because the weather might be different. And if you really gotta climb somewhere you wait the rain out or build a fire, just like Link would. I promise you'll have fun. I'm well over three-hundred hours into my first play-through, I have a 119 shrines found, and I'm restarting on hard mode to play-through again to first complete it on hard mode instead. Maybe nobody is reading comments on here any more and I should just go ply Zelda.

I was thinking it weird too that Link does not speak, especially in the memories while everyone else does. Although Zelda's diary actually says that Link is not speaking and it really annoys her. That is until apparently she learns that the reason he does not speak much is that apparently he is feeling crushed by expectations and is not speaking in order to try and stay strong, that he is doing his duty.
@thesterndragoon91597 жыл бұрын
Miyamoto has been asked why Link has no voice several times and I honestly like his unwavering answer: Link is not a player-character, but an avatar. Even his name was originally just meant to signify that player-to-character "link" (which was later adapted as a pun to the multi-world and multi-time plots of various games). He is meant to take on the qualities of the one controlling him as a direct proxy protagonist. As such, it's a much stronger imprint to be able to mentally replace YOUR voice with his when he's "silent". While I agree that it was much stronger in earlier Zelda games and the more they add full personality NPCs, it starts to seem odd how mute Link is, I still mostly agree with the design choice of him being given no audible dialogue.
@nworder4life7 жыл бұрын
There's a contradiction though because almost all of the 3d zelda games lInk does have a personality and the npcs do hear him talking to them. I'm pretty sure there stance on Link being an avatar is going to change very soon and eventually he will get a voice. Hell in BOTW he's already an established character with history and friendships.

DuskyPredator see, I never found that diary entry, but even then, I could get that idea from the memories
@DuskyPredator7 жыл бұрын
One of Zelda's diaries is in her study which is about her findings, it is in a tower you can see on the castle and houses one of the memories. But across from that and with a bit of climbing you can find her room which and the diary in there has her recounting what she was thinking in all of the memories. That she was frustrated by her lack ability while to her Link seemed to have no trouble taking on his role, which frustrated her further to be angry at him, but she also that she felt guilty over that. You can also find the King's diary in the library for his side of things and that he felt guilty over how he had to treat his daughter. And as you play Paya's diary also has new entries about Link.
