Hm, imagine if at launch you played FF15 right up to the point where we time skip. But instead of the usual way things go, suddenly a character creation menu appeared and you had to spend the next 20 hours or whatever playing through the Comrades game mode. Like, it's just part of the base game. I wonder how the reception to that would have gone.
@lordofchaosiori11 ай бұрын
People already hated the transition from the open world to the linear last third. I don’t think people would’ve enjoyed a switch to a mission-based monster hunter grind before the end of the story.
@rainbowkrampus11 ай бұрын
@@lordofchaosiori Probably. But I also hated the time skip and having something unexpected that contextualizes the skip might've been pretty interesting. Hard to say looking backwards though.

@@1chibanKasuga I only played the launch version of the game. I keep thinking about picking up the Royal edition when it's on sale. I didn't hate the game by any stretch. FF15 honestly has my favorite vibe of any FF. It's also only fantasy game to blend high fantasy with 1960s americana. That world's so goddamn pretty and photogenic.
@infsteve913211 ай бұрын
Even tho Comrades is grindy, has a confusing crafting system, spongy enemies and less exploration, I still really enjoyed it. I had fun with the combat and the different sigils and weapons to basically be able to assign yourself a combat role (warrior, mage, support, etc). The character creation was great; I loved seeing pictures of my character after every mission and being able to dress them up. The music is actually pretty good too (they didn't have to go that hard on the Deathgaze boss theme). And playing with others makes the game 200% more fun. It's an unfinished, sometimes frustrating mess of a game, but it's also got a lot of charm imo.

Great video. I'm a big FFXV fan, I've been writing my own thing about it for a bit (I write really slowly!), and I'm stoked to see someone else talk about Pocket Edition. XV is a game made out of the skeletons of a dozen other games, and Pocket Edition looked at the final product and rebuilt it from the ground up to hit the same notes and themes. I really do think that, if it had had the visual splendor and combat of the base game, it'd be a straight-up better way to play it. I'd miss the open world, but what it gains in focus is super important.
@chaosdestructionlove11 ай бұрын
Does it fix the unresolved plot elements? I was always curious about pocket edition.
@sagewaterdragon11 ай бұрын
@@chaosdestructionlove Not really. It has extra voice lines (they were all recorded for the base game and unused there), and it expands a lot of inexplicably short areas into full dungeons (like the Shiva stop), but it doesn't add whole new story beats. It mostly just makes what was already there make more sense.
@megazorzz11 ай бұрын
I also think the truly bloated FFXV baroque-multi-media universe is why I like it so much. There was so much effort and triage put into translating an FFXIII story into its own setting and I think that passion really comes through. It is not the best FF game, but it is my favorite FF game.
@TheCrewExpendable11 ай бұрын
Usually these transmedia/multimedia projects go terrible. FFXV is the first time that the transmedia is all better than the actual main game its centered around.

weirdly enough, I actually love FFXV Pocket Edition, I purchased it on switch and honestly I felt like I was playing an older FF game despite its hand holding. I remember people complaining about pocket edition when it was announced as a "useless edition to nickel and time us" but in honesty, I think it was a blessing in disguise.
@sgt_triometra711411 ай бұрын
I remember seeing the strangers of paradise trailer in a group call at E3 or sth and shouting "shit is that my guy: Cor Leonis the immortal?" sending my friend into a laughing fit only getting worse with every "Chaos". They also always laugh when they learn he has maybe 8 minutes of screen time in the base game, even less in the base base game where Insomnia is just a goal, not a place. "Why are you so obsessed with this guy", I have no idea, somewhere along playing it myself, then fermenting in the fandom for 6 years. But I didn't know that Pocket Edition actually has merit, I thought it's the exact same with a bit weird looking models. Finding out they actually turned it into a roadtrip and enhancing this whole team has me interested.

It’s wild how a thing can kind of be better when you do not have to “do” as much or hit a run time. FFXV is genuinely a good story behind too much stuff to do. I will take a 300 page book with a good story over a 600 page tome that vomits world building and lore any day. Then again I am not the boss, I don’t make the rules. People be happy with what they got and who am I to say what is better. FFXV pocket edition just knew what it wanted to give us and I liked more because of that.

Need to get that final DLC tho, to check out the big capital city. Man, I really loved 15. I didnt play it when it came out, so by the time I got to it, I had all the patches and DLC and junk. There was just a really solid vibe to the game that came across despite the haphazard way it was glued together. I also seriously mourn for all of the content that never got finished, the areas you only get glimpses of while you're on the train, the second season of DLC that was cancelled slightly after Episode Ardyn, the various dungeons and stuff in the game. I also played Companions solo. It also had a solid vibe, and more story than I expected. Pocket Edition actually looks like a real treat, and I might have to hunt grab a copy now.

Apparently some of the later boss fights in Comrades like Bahamut were designed by people from Platinum Games, so supposedly they're pretty good, but I've never played them.
@mclovin384411 ай бұрын
The bahamut(hardest version) fight was imo one of the best ff boss encounter, it was nearly impossible for me to beat solo and waited a week before I could other players to help, the classes were very unbalanced however as dragoon just did substantially more damage than any other class with warp and jumps

I love FFXV despite it being sort of a train wreck in ways. The road trip vibe of "I'm just gonna pull over cause that place looks neat" to the very jarring tones the story switches between it hit me in a way a lot of memorable jank titles do, something I hope to revisit eventually despite knowing it's not the pinnacle of an experience. I've always found the hate severely overblown but suppose that's true of every divisive game. Meanwhile I'm at the tail end of FFXVI (went hard at release only to run out of steam at the final section) and while I definitely dig what it's done in a way it makes me miss stuff from XV if only for the less somber story.

completely unrelated but that Terra Wars mission is one of the fondest memories I have of FFXV, which is funny bc it's completely off the main game, and it feels like a dream Noctis forgot about the second he left the portal. Maybe thats part of it's charm for me. In anyway, I can't forget it

Holy shit the way you describe ff XV gives me the words to describe my thoughts on Xenoblade Chronicles X I'm pretty sure you can just waltz right into an endgame area, or find pieces of the life hold, right after you do the tutorial., and though gamplay-ly the devs accounted for you doing that have lover lvl collectibles/mobs there, it t makes literally no sense plot wise. But I think it handles its unfinished-ness better. Making the line between main quest and side blurred.Thus naturally you're just doing them anyway while in the process of doing the main quest. Fixing a problem in the XC where getting knee deep the town/NPC social link stuff kinda shits all over the pacing of the main story since the side townies literally are the story .Kinda Deadly premonition Vibes with many even having their own routines depending on the day and unique dialogue that can happen outside of any side or main quest.But less intentional and feels more like either the Devs lacked focus or the didn't have enough time to make a main story. Like you can not know what's going with the main cast, yet you can stumble on a whole mini arc with a woman being bored in her house only to then mid-end game when the cat ppl immigrate, have a cat girl pool party.
