The best thing about the "arcade version" of Death Crimson is that aside from the massive controller it's literally just a Saturn with a copy of Death Crimson sealed inside it for all eternity
@RealWonderSwan4 жыл бұрын
Funniest thing, but in Japan, people would create "Death Saturns", which were Sega Saturns that were glued shut that would only play Death Crimson. I stumbled across it being a big fan of Death Crimson and it's story, and it's one of the funniest bits about it. Can't remember where I found this link, but I kept it on my bookmarks tab for quite a while, because shit was just really interesting to me: www.hashiyansoft.com/contents/dc/death.html

Damn your comment activated some nostalgia for me, but in the weirdest way. I'm gonna miss the bowling alley near my house, despite the fact that I don't really bowl. It just closed this January due to COVID. There was something special about it. It did in fact have this EXACT vibe. The weird ass 90s jazzy carpet. The super strange 3D animations when someone got a strike or spare or gutterball. It even had a small arcade in it. The arcade games were all from the 90s-2000s are somehow all in working order until the end. The sound of the people bowling kinda fading into the background as I played Time Crisis 2 or Virtual On is just a fond memory. They also were mostly just straight up Japanese arcade games. There was even cheap, greasy food and a weird ass room that just had pool tables, a bar and dads smoking (when indoors smoking was legal). Shit had a super oddly comfy vibe. ThorHighHeels videos just kinda give me that vibe with the visuals and sound.

The awkward part of the Saturn was how Japanese it is. Like, most of the people who would buy one were people interested in weird Japanese franchises. Probably doesn't help that it's killer apps were way too Japanese for western audiences to appreciate at the time so most weren't localized.

The Saturn was hella weird in so many ways which has given it an enduring place in my heart. While I never really had the pleasure to own one a friend of mine got one back in the day solely on the strength of the Genesis and it was interesting to see the most mainstream gamer of kids stuck with all this obscure shit get his mind expanded. And then of course there was a summer where I watched a friend blow his college fund on collecting all the rarest titles for the system and gained a deeper appreciation for what it could do.
