Me too. I love FF4's battle tunes, and Jenova, but this is the first Final Fantasy where I'll go fight that extra monster because I'm like "hell yeah I'll get to hear the song again" I've had more fun rolling around the world with Clive and Jill than I ever expected.

This song slaps! It's my morning hype song while lesson planning before class. Then, I kick down the door and scream lines such as, "TOO SLOW!" and "NOW TORGAL!" and "that's a fine hound!"

Coming back for the millionth time from the future to not only celebrate this OST winning best of the year, but to call this battle theme the biggest dissonant flex ever. The chorus literally does not have a key, yet sounds so good. It just climbs down the keyboard step by step and I can't believe it works.

I'm in a similar boat. Absolutely love FF16 and the battle theme kinda didn't hit for me at first, but I found myself humming the chorus for weeks, and now I think it's maybe the best battle theme FF has ever had. FF4 would be its biggest competition, and Jenova and all that are cool, but I've never had one stuck in my head for a month. That chorus has so many subtle but genius layers, and the Lame Genie version is maybe even a legit upgrade on a tonal front. But man this song just rips, I fight every enemy I see in the game most nights because I just wanna mash to this banger

I've gone from "FF16 is good, and up there" to "FF16 is an all-timer" to seriously wondering if it's got the best OST in the entire series. The songs just get better and better, and the game itself was just so, so good. I've listened to this track and the official one like a million times. I didn't realize how many callbacks it had to classic FF until a week ago. Go listen to the FF8 battle theme, it's going to blow your mind what the writer did here.

In all fairness though, I suspect both songs actually borrowed that from a much older piece (maybe something by Bach? I’m not sure, tbh).

After having time to think on it and hear it a bunch, it's the best battle theme FF has ever had. FF4 and 6 have some awesome, ones, but this one is genius. I can't get enough of the chrous, it''s just amazing. Glad other people love this game and music, it's really a return to form.

My problem with 16 bells is that it has the windup of like, a Final Fantasy. 14. A realm reborn dungeon instead of a Final Fantasy 14 raid. It literally takes too long to get to the good part of this battle theme. Remixing it this way at least makes it exciting from the get-go

So I was a FF1-8 release day no-lifer as a kid and...I'm surprised to be saying this...FF16 is the best Final Fantasy of all-time. The soundtrack is unreal, and I find myself humming the chorus of the battle theme like every night. The other games had amazing OSTs, but 16 is just on a level I've never experienced. Maybe it's because I'm all growed up and the game means something different to me now, but I haven't spent a single second in 16 not feeling like a 12 year old again.

I watched a game music writer talk about how the chorus has basically no key, it just advances down notes one by one while still working, and it was something I'd never heard of before. I'll defend FF16 until I die, it's a masterpiece.
