Ah, man. Uncle Byron is just straight up my favorite character in this game. He is just such a joy every time he's on screen.

It really is sad that Clive is very loved by his family except his own mother

IKR? That bitch is for the streets. And even then that’s too good for her

Bah. Who needs her. Elwin should have divorced the bitch long before that night at Phoenix Gate. Like soon after Joshua's discovery as the Phoenix Dominant.

That's strange. His uncle and father are loving him, and they're both not dominant. What's the problem with his mother did not love him just because he's not dominant?
@TVHead003

@@IamtheMan1111 because her priorities were severely out of whack. The dominants are a symbol of power for the noble families that birth them and she considered Clive a symbol of her own weakness and failure

Waterworks started as soon as I saw this cutscene, Clive has lived such a miserable life that seeing him have this moment with his family is so fucking sweet. What a jolly and outrageous man, Byron is

No kidding. I teared up while seeing Clive reunite with one of his superior family members…😢

My favourite cutscene. There are no Eikons, no fights and no death. Just one of the most heartwarming moments in the game.

This scene, to me, marked where we see a shift in XVI's tone. Up until this point, there was so much darkness in the game and just this feeling of hopelessness. That no matter how many victories Clive achieves, something bad would overrule that victory. But meeting Uncle Byron, who breaks down in tears and orders a feast at the news that Clive is alive and well, seems to be where Clive's victories start shine brighter than whatever bad things happen. Even in the face of the skies darkening in the final third of the game, I always got the feeling that there was a *chance* to save the world. And a chance was all that we needed.

Uncle Byron is also one of the reasons Clive was able to control Ifrit properly aswell. People point out the timeskip and how much doesn’t change but the point is Clive has kinda reverted back to square 1 at the new hideaway except in a different setting. He has to go through the motions and figure out who he is while still trying to accomplish their goal. Clive’s purpose is not to be a king or a ruler of men. It’s “extending ideals” as he says which is for the betterment of eachother. It also contrasts Hugo who is the man who wants to be king and have everything to himself.

I'm still going through this game but I tried to make a point to talk to everyone who could be talked to, and this comment reminds me of something Tomes said that I made a note of. "No matter how deep our wounds, we have the capacity to heal. And happiness lost may be found again." I just felt it was especially fitting here.

This whole scene is so sweet but one of my favorite things is the look of utter confusion on Jill's face during the bit from the play

Clive’s act was kind of funny but I also couldn’t help crying during this scene, remembering the simpler times during his childhood, and of course the reunion with his uncle

My favorite part of this scene is how the “play” dialogue has double meaning. Byron’s quote has him asking Clive’s character if he has returned from the dead to haunt him, in reality Byron is both continuing the dialogue as well as asking if this is really his nephew he thought was dead. When Clive nods to him, he breaks and quotes the next line, saying something along the lines of “…see thy charge once more”, implying Clive to be his “charge” or “ward”, someone he’s longed to see for years. It’s heartbreaking sweet to see Byron realize that not only is his nephew alive, he’s standing in front of him, grown into an adult. I love it so much. Props to SE for putting so much effort and love into this single scene.
