I love how much clive develops as a character. From an innocent boy to a traumatized and depressed adult to then accepting what happened and moving on from it and becoming a wise and kind man.

Clive was always a kind man. It's why even 13 years later old subjects are so happy to see him still alive. The Archduke and Clive both were basically carrying the morale of Rosario on their backs whilst Clive's mom was rotting the kingdom.

@@Foogi9000 He didn't lose it, he was never in a position to employ it. He was enslaved to the Empire for 13 years and used as apart of an assassin hit squad the entire time. He speaks on if you so much looked up from your feet as a Bearer you would get killed in the Empire. If you were just aquiantent with a slave who deserted, you'd die for it even if you didn't help them run away. Once he got away from the Empire's yoke, his kindness started to show through almost immediately, albeit with a gruff exterior. What changed from this scene is his rage and hatred. It softened him. He was far less jaded with a chip on his shoulder, less prone to impatience, but his kindness was always present.

@@RazielTheUnborn He was literally schizo before. The traumatic experience of killing his own brother, led to him creating and living a lie, that he didn't kill Joshua but a "second eikon of fire" did. It's very Jungian in psychology. Basically in this scene he accepts his "evilness" or at least part of himself that is evil, and moves forward with his life as a flawed individual who killed his brother. It's what Jung calls accepting your shadow.

Coupled with the INCREDIBLE facial animations for all the characters. It's amazing, I love final fantasy and kingdom hearts, but let's be real, the characters always sounded so bland and/or the dialogue was poorly translated. I was not ready for this to be such a cinematic masterpiece and for the dialogue to be so well written / voice actors to actually have so much passion.

Right? Something that also strikes me is how well-directed the cutscenes are. The camera techniques, timing of cuts and all... It truly has a cinematic feel to it in such a grand scale.

I still don't really understand why Clive killed Joshua? Obviously their relationship is very good, Clive doesn't seem to has a problem with Joshua, like he is secretly jealous with Joshua, or something like that. It doesn't make sense to say that this fight is about getting rid of Clive's evil mind, because he doesn't has an evil mind, at least according to what's shown in the game. If so, he really is being controlled by someone, and the "Ifrit" that fought him represents this controller, right?
@Bahamut998
@Bahamut998 Жыл бұрын
@@chuyenvegame388 Haven't played entire game yet but basically dominants who don't learn to control their eikons, it's possible the Eikon power controls them. Ifrit awakened that night in Clive and led him to kill Phoenix. Same thing happened with Benedikta when she lost control of Garuda and nearly wiped out an entire region.
@ericbright1742
@ericbright1742 Жыл бұрын
@@chuyenvegame388 They make a distinction in the game with the eye color of the Eikons: Blue means the Dominant is in control; Yellow-Orange means they are not. If they are not in control, the Eikon is little more than a beast. A Kaiju rampaging through Tokyo, destroying anything and everything in its path. It's less that Clive killed Joshua, more that Clive lost control, and in his blind rage, he lashed out and destroyed any threat he saw. It just so happened that he saw Phoenix as a threat.

My favorite part about the early game and this moment in particular, is that even though all this metaphysical stuff is happening where Clive is literally seeing the truth and fighting himself, there was no magical fuckery behind his denial. It was completely psychological and he had just been running from the truth he knew in the back of his mind for all those years.

I've seen so many people share this sentiment about almost every major story boss and the fact that after all this the final boss doesn't disappoint just makes this game of the year for me personally. Sure there are bigger and fuller games with more in depth combat and physics but the raw rule of cool that permeates this entire game- it doesn't hold a single thing back and I love it for that.

This line also impacts how we see the world: _Still_ you deny it, even when the truth's staring right at you. We may have all committed some wrongdoings and the future may be a scary thing, but we still press forward and accept the consequences. The truth is always bitter and many people decide to hide themselves behind lies so they feel whole, but just looking in the mirror makes the truth feel so demoralizing. To forgive yourself is to accept who you really are and make amends with the crimes you've committed. It's not an easy thing to do, but we all must do it eventually. There can be no truth without a lie, and there can be no purpose without a motive.

The beauty of this is crazy. So much to unpack actually in a merely few minutes of cutscenes in total. "Come, Ifrit! Show me who you truly are" By saying that simple sentence he still didn't acknowledge the truth even though he's fully aware of it! Aware- but not accepting! As so as the fight continues- Ifrit showed him indeed what he truly is; Clive himself. For Clive to mutter out the sentence: "Still you deny it, even when the truth's staring right at you." It wasn't up until even after that fight where his younger self and his older self both come to terms to what he truly is....Ifrit. The one who killed Joshua. The first time I played through this, I wasn't very much aware HOW much is actually happening. Why is the fight continuing despite Clive already having accepted the truth prior? Why is his younger self coming in and disappearing AGAIN even though he's already accepted it? All because of symbolism. For Clive throughout the entire fight didn't accept it fully. But pressed on forevermore despite how hard it is to accept that he indeed is Ifrit. Love this game.

I like the subtle detail of Clive’s eyes when he transforms. The first two times he becomes Ifrit, his eyes are yellow to show he’s a mindless beast in that form. After he confronts and accepts his past, his Ifrit eyes become blue to show he has full control.
@kevinkaslana9060
@kevinkaslana9060 10 ай бұрын
It's even implied that the first two times Ifrit was called upon (the first time was thirteen years ago at Phoenix Gate, the second was thirteen years after the fall against Garuda), we see him as a ruthless, lumbering demon. However, as Clive calls upon his Eikon the more it's needed, he has better movement and control. So not only does it show the blue eyes coming back to form, it also implies that he is becoming one with Ifrit, learning how to summon it at will.

As I played this boss fight I finally got the will to end one of poems I was writing a while ago. At the end of the writing it, I thought it is fitting well to Clive at this exact moment. Here it is: Once I stood in fear's cold clasp, A specter of doom in its deadly grasp. A fate of ashes, a destiny so bleak, In the shadow's heart, I dared not speak. Yet, in the abyss, a glimmer did shine, A beacon of hope, a divine sign. A chance emerged from the spectral glow, A path to tread, a way to go. I seized the moment, embraced the light, Summoned my courage, prepared to fight. The tables turned, the game anew, My strength reborn, my spirit grew. The foe who sought to claim my form, To reduce me to ashes, to the norm, Met his end in the light's bright flash, Turned to ashes in a single clash. So, I stand here, not as ashes, but as flame, A victor in this perilous game. In the face of fear, I found my worth, A phoenix rising from the earth. It may not be 100% fitting, cause that was not intended at first, but I think that at the end it fits damn well good.

This is literally some Persona 4 type beat and I love it. Facing against a part of yourself that you don't want to believe, and then physically duking it out with a shadow version of yourself, leading to acceptance and gaining newfound power because of it.

Would have been cool if "Limit Break" lets you pick a Dominant, then that element becomes your limit break and changes ALL your Eikon moves to something similar, but with the currently chosen Eikon's element. Allowing for a much broader moveset (and using the abilities the boss used here, like Hellfire, Hammer and Anvil, etc.)

Then for him to finally accept it, truly accept it, "Enough. I know the truth of it now. You are not Ifrit. I am." To have your inner power, your inner most self strip away every last excuse you had to not fully embrace the truth, to accept what you are, that is quite a rare and vulnerable feeling. I dunno. I think Cloud had an unironically MUCH better self realization arc than Clive that went through the whole game and not just the first 10 hours. I like him, but why we call Cloud an edgelord when Clive is an even bigger sadboy?
@shadowofdread7018
@shadowofdread7018 Жыл бұрын
@@juliogomesdesouza9035 Because Clive went through worse shit and struggled endlessly for over 13 years. Then overcame his trauma and desire for revenge to help others. Cloud pushed all of his friends away for two years over Aerith’s death and became kind of a dick to everyone. It wasn’t until Sephiroth’s return and Aerith’s spirit telling him it wasn’t his fault for him to stop being mopey. Don’t get me wrong, I love Cloud and he has very humanistic flaws, but Clive simply endured way worse and came out a better man when all was said and done. That being said, Cloud will probably get better with the Remake. I don’t think Advent Children is considered canon anymore in the new timeline. Plus Remake’s Cloud thus far has been more engaging and fun than his original counterpart

Combat Tip: when enemies hit 50% stagger gauge and you hear that PING, use Garuda’s Deadly Embrace to gain 4-5 secs of extra damage, usually paired with Gouge to drop the rest of the bar faster.

@internalforce 18 күн бұрын
@@linkthemastah29 I haven't noticed a difference staggerwise, but I also swapped out Gouge for Rook's Gambit If I had to guess from memory alone, Wicked Wheel probably does more immediate Stagger damage while Gouge does more gradual Stagger damage since it can keep going longer
