Been playing FF since I was a kid. I didn't like 13 because of it's plot and some characters, but it felt like a FF game. 16 feels like game of thrones, God of war and Devil may cry minus the charm which was disappointing for me. Just my opinion

I was thinking I was the only one who saw that FF are becoming too Japanese oriented looking. I mentioned how FF15 characters moved just like Japanese people, if you have watched “Japanese” power rangers you will understand. Now there are Japanese walking on medieval armor. Imagine all the characters from the Witcher 3 looked and move just like Japanese looking people. I can’t take the story seriously.

I know exactly what you're talking about, and the weird thing is that Japanese people don't actually move like that. That kind of movement is exclusive to Japanese acting and it's a carryover from Noh and Kabuki theater. Hyper-exaggerated and melodramatic. And actors have to train to move that way because people are so used to it, it looks wrong when actors DON'T act like that. It's the same thing as the soap opera effect people feel when a movie runs higher than 24 FPS.

I didn't like ff16. Thought the opening did an extremely poor job at establishing the world, themes, and most importantly the characters. I only played the demo, but unless they patched out the dry dialogue and need to pause the game and read a dictionary to understand what's going on, I don't see the point of experiencing it further, or why it was so well received. I guess mashing attack and flashing lights really draw people in.

Sorry you didn’t enjoy the game. Good thing is there are so many games out now enjoy something else. I am glad FF series has gone full action because turned based combat isn’t needed anymore. The technology is there to make gameplay real time and still achieve the original design For a long time FF fans ate TBC games now enjoy some real time just like as a long time yakuza fan we are good but now the main like series is tbc Whether or no you enjoy the story or characters are subjective. To me very very rare games ever get the story right anyway. Usually it’s just good to average for most games

Your definition of white people really resonated with me. That term always felt very American to me. As you know I'm Irish. I'm also one of those Europeans who believes in pan-European identity and manifesting that as a more cohesive European federal union. But I never really identified with the term white. So I mentioned in the last video I’m a history teacher and before I taught 7th grade world history I taught a high school elective called “Controversial History” and there was a whole unit on race And what follows are personal notes I began with a quote from the book Stand on Zanzibar where a character defines “Negro” and it’s “Member of a subgroup of the human race who hails, or whose ancestors hailed, from a chunk of land nicknamed-not by its residents-Africa. Superior to the Caucasian in that negroes did not invent nuclear weapons, the automobile, Christianity, nerve gas, the concentration camp, military epidemics, or the megalopolis.” That quote is something I find particularly interesting the first assignment was for students to react to that quote and almost all of the white students were defensive after reading it. That is how I began a merciless class of introspection and self analysis Another thing I talked about in that class is my own family history my family came from Italy (among other places) and historically they weren’t considered white (also Catholicism but that’s a second point) I argued that Italian and Irish immigrants (again among others) did the opposite of how you describe Asian immigrants where the Italian and Irish bent over backwards to be considered “white” which was especially controversial where I was teaching Finally there was a section where I taught of how a black theologian argued that white Christianity was not Christianity as Christianity was the religion of the oppressed (I’ll update when I find my old notes)

Lol Great Video. I'll watch the FF16 Woke AF video. I played the game and didn't think about the slave part of the story. I'm guessing they who made the game didn't know how to navigate having a slave story with black playable and non-playable characters. It's crazy though because there are other people of color that look as if they're from the middle eastern'ish. It is a good story but maybe they felt damn if they did add or didn't add black characters. I finished the game. This wasn't my favorite FF game. Other than black people it was missing something else that the other FF games had. I just didn't enjoy it as much as FF15.

I'm flabbergasted by some of the reactions to this difficult topic. For me fantasy setting is simply the best place to include everyone. Because it is a fantasy, not some freaking history lesson. Even in Witcher series, which is based on Polish folklore and I'm Polish woman, lack of diversity was a huge problem for me. It's true that Poland is very homogenous Caucasian society and even in XXI century we don't have too many dark-tonned folks living here. In medieval times they only appeared on noble courts in big cities. Average peasant would never had a contact with people of, for example, African descent. But it's a history and we already know it. Hanging on this history context in such games is so stupid and pointless. I truly hope videos like yours will make true change how we see and implement inclusion in modern media.

I was born and raised in Mississippi which meant my growth environment was dominated by whiteness inside and out, I've spent my adult life and a lot of my teen years trying to resist that mindset because it always just made me feel bad Videos like this and the prior FF16 video you made are such vital tools for people like me constantly trying to challenge any white ideals that still linger in my mind from my upbringing. I had some internal knee jerk responses to things that were said, but that's cause fighting against ideals you were raised on seems to be an endless fight, an endless fight for me at least. The people that openly react negatively are people who have either given up that fight or never tried to fight it to begin with. It's a fight I don't want to give up on, so I again thank you for these valuable learning moments you've provided
