I cannot imagine this port getting to market between 1991-1994 when it mattered, because neither Capcom or Sega is going to manufacture an extremely expensive 32 megabit cart that the finished port is going to need for a really old beat-em up game from 1989 and charge $80 for it when Final Fight 2 and Streets of Rage 2 exist for less money. Even Captain Commando, a larger, more advanced Final Fight game from 1991, was only allocated 16 megabits for the SNES ports in 1995 when ROM chips has gotten cheaper.

I can understand how the critics would be unkind to the Sega CD port (which I love!). We know Final Fight as a classic to be preserved and enjoyed on its own terms, but back then, it was a four year old quarter muncher that had been eclipsed by console games like SoR and SoR2. It would be like having critics of the day telling everyone to buy a 32X because it could play After Burner and Space Harrier- great replications of the vintage arcades, yes, but not where console games were going.

It’s so clear that both SNES and Genesis had so much power to run many arcade games from those days with absolute fidelity. Judging from "press start" caption blinking in upper right corner, this is 2 player co-op game. I saw max 5 enemies at once! So, even with some sprite flicker, this is alredy miles better than SNES version which is only one player game with max 3 enemies at once and that ugly sprite which replaces Poison (present in MD version of course)! As it seems, sprites are extracted from PCB and not "arcade-like sprite-aproximations" like SNES! On a side note, Amiga 500 also get new version (homebrew) of Final Fight, righting the wrong of original port with added acurate enemy placements, on screen objects, all enemies, all acurate moves, animation frames, music and FX and color and background corection from original rushed job! Sprites were extracted from original PCB even in original port but now they added most of missing frames! And it runs and plays preety good!

Super Famicom, Sega CD, iOS, PS3, Switch and more often than not, I end up playing it in SF6 instead of actually playing SF6😂 The colors are definitely more vibrant. However, as great as a port this is, I am seeing more flickering than on the Sega CD. Also, Abigail's stage, City Slums has an animated background that the arcade or any other console version had! Nice!! I wish Capcom gave this franchise a lot more love. I sometimes day dream of Capcom re releasing this game with updated graphics (similar to how they partnered with UDON Entertainment on SSF2 Turbo HD Remix) and giving us all three players at once in an ultimate multi-player brawler. It would be the same game, same characters, storyline, etc. Just HD graphics, 3 player action and maybe a few hidden bonuses paying homage to the games lore.

This is great, nowadays tools like sega sdk are powerful tools that let programers do things that in that time where FAR more complex (not to mention that nowadays costs for those rom are much cheaper too if you want to do a physical edition and they are much faster and better too) what im super sure bout is that the snes version was kinda rushed and that is the reason it ended up with less content. for example, in the files you CAN find the factory stage (incomplete, but it is there) and there are partial codes for 2 players (that are not used) and it was not because there was no room (even when the rom they used was the cheaper one) There is even a hack that makes the 3 players selecteable and has a 2playes coop active mode (like i said the code DOES have it, but its incomplete and enemies do not try to seek for the 2nd player) it would be nice to have this amazing genesis version and a COMPLETE version of the snes one (more complex to do as its harder to actually program for the snes and assembler is a pain).

I think most people saw sega cd as a high end, almost experimental system. 32X was an unmitigated disaster though

I actually got the sega cd at the tail end of its life when it dropped to $99. Also, Lunar 2 just came out as well! I had an amazing time with the system. Alot of the sega cd games at the time were really cheap: Popful Mail, Lunar 2, Shining Force CD etc. Still own them!

@@eponymous7910for what it is, 32X is an awesome bit of kit, and I bet there were plenty that were happy to get one, (especially when they were almost giving them away!) but if you've got a more advanced bit of hardware coming less than a year down the line, (turned out to be even less than that 😱) probably best to have kept it an idea and not make it a reality!

In that car beat up bonus round... did it use the arcade sample of "oh my god" or the SNES sample of "oh my car" (like the CD ver did)?
@SegaLordXАй бұрын
Arcade.

What's the ROM size? Could it have been released on a cartridge back in the day, or is it too big?
@JudgmentStormАй бұрын
The one thing keeping Sega from doing this kind of Final Fight port in MD's heyday might have been cartridge cost. Arcade version's full ROM is nearly 26.5 Mbits (3.3 MB). That'd probably mean about $70 for a cartridge. At least.
@opaljk4835Ай бұрын
It’s on the same size as the latter release of street fighter 2

Barring the color limits, the stage 5 is even better than the arcade in many ways. For example, the fence in foreground has parallel scrolling, which the arcade version didn't have.

I'm guessing the main advantage of the CD version was the storage size of the media. To get all this "stuff" into an affordable cartridge at the time might have been an issue. I'd be interested to hear what size this game ends up being, so we could determine which size cartridge would be needed, and how much it would have cost back in the day :)
@freddyvidzАй бұрын
The carts weren’t “affordable” anyway.

This demo is of the almost finished game and it's less than 32 megabits, which was the size of a number of Genesis games back then.
@PlumbDrumbАй бұрын
@@SegaLordX Ah, yes that's not overly large. Not unaffordably so, at least.

I really wonder what the cartridge's size would've been and how expensive this port would've been on genesis back in the day. I remember Strider boasted about having "8 Mega Memory" on the cover and it was a great arcade port. Would this have been double or triple that size?
@ItsPaybackTime89Ай бұрын
This conversion will only use the standard genesis 4MB rom size.
@blknmildАй бұрын
@@ItsPaybackTime89 First of all thanks for the info! Secondly, thats AMAZING! Considering the colors, sprite size, animation, sound quality and music, I cannot understand how all that would fit onto a standard official Sega cart!
