Another Brazilian doing wonders with the Mega Drive! You need to understand the love that Brazilians have for the Sega Mega Drive system, here it was sold a lot and the Brazilian company TEC Toy simultaneously released Sega systems and games, including producing exclusive games for the Sega Master system and Mega drive systems at the time, and the legacy is still alive!!

Sega Genesis was already "a system seller" by itself by the time this would come out. Genesis was their first (and their last) commercial juggernaut, a true industry disruptor, a f*cking household name even your rusty Janis Joplin-listening grandma knew by name back in early to mid 90's. 😊

I cannot imagine this port getting to market between 1991-1994 when it mattered, because neither Capcom or Sega is going to manufacture an extremely expensive 32 megabit cart that the finished port is going to need for a really old beat-em up game from 1989 and charge $80 for it when Final Fight 2 and Streets of Rage 2 exist for less money. Even Captain Commando, a larger, more advanced Final Fight game from 1991, was only allocated 16 megabits for the SNES ports in 1995 when ROM chips has gotten cheaper.
@HereticHydra

@@paulclinton6414 Streets of Rage would've still happened. SOR was a response to Street Fighter 2 anyway, I don't know why though since they're completely different genres. Genesis Final Fight def would've gave SOR2 a run for its money. Streets of Rage trilogy was so dominant that no other beat em up on the Genesis came close. Not even Hyperstone Heist.

I can understand how the critics would be unkind to the Sega CD port (which I love!). We know Final Fight as a classic to be preserved and enjoyed on its own terms, but back then, it was a four year old quarter muncher that had been eclipsed by console games like SoR and SoR2. It would be like having critics of the day telling everyone to buy a 32X because it could play After Burner and Space Harrier- great replications of the vintage arcades, yes, but not where console games were going.

It’s so clear that both SNES and Genesis had so much power to run many arcade games from those days with absolute fidelity. Both the better knowledge of how these systems work and modern development tools makes games like this one possible, with a handful of developers, while in the past poor ports would be made by teams of dozens of devs.

I was surprised with how people don't understand this simple point including our own Sega lord X here. It's not so much the hardware, Developers were limited by rom size which affected how accurately they could make the port. Also the developers of the time had to deal with tight time constraints from publishers. For example Probe was given 6 months to develop the port of mortal kombat for the Sega Genesis without any extra help. Also, development tools have come a long way now.

Judging from "press start" caption blinking in upper right corner, this is 2 player co-op game. I saw max 5 enemies at once! So, even with some sprite flicker, this is alredy miles better than SNES version which is only one player game with max 3 enemies at once and that ugly sprite which replaces Poison (present in MD version of course)! As it seems, sprites are extracted from PCB and not "arcade-like sprite-aproximations" like SNES! On a side note, Amiga 500 also get new version (homebrew) of Final Fight, righting the wrong of original port with added acurate enemy placements, on screen objects, all enemies, all acurate moves, animation frames, music and FX and color and background corection from original rushed job! Sprites were extracted from original PCB even in original port but now they added most of missing frames! And it runs and plays preety good!

Quite literally one of my most favorite game ever. I have fond memories of dumping quarters into this in the arcade back in the day along with owning so many variations. Super Famicom, Sega CD, iOS, PS3, Switch and more often than not, I end up playing it in SF6 instead of actually playing SF6😂 The colors are definitely more vibrant. However, as great as a port this is, I am seeing more flickering than on the Sega CD. Also, Abigail's stage, City Slums has an animated background that the arcade or any other console version had! Nice!! I wish Capcom gave this franchise a lot more love. I sometimes day dream of Capcom re releasing this game with updated graphics (similar to how they partnered with UDON Entertainment on SSF2 Turbo HD Remix) and giving us all three players at once in an ultimate multi-player brawler. It would be the same game, same characters, storyline, etc. Just HD graphics, 3 player action and maybe a few hidden bonuses paying homage to the games lore.

This is great, nowadays tools like sega sdk are powerful tools that let programers do things that in that time where FAR more complex (not to mention that nowadays costs for those rom are much cheaper too if you want to do a physical edition and they are much faster and better too) what im super sure bout is that the snes version was kinda rushed and that is the reason it ended up with less content. for example, in the files you CAN find the factory stage (incomplete, but it is there) and there are partial codes for 2 players (that are not used) and it was not because there was no room (even when the rom they used was the cheaper one) There is even a hack that makes the 3 players selecteable and has a 2playes coop active mode (like i said the code DOES have it, but its incomplete and enemies do not try to seek for the 2nd player) it would be nice to have this amazing genesis version and a COMPLETE version of the snes one (more complex to do as its harder to actually program for the snes and assembler is a pain).

Mother of GOD this is an impressive conversion! It's legitimately astonishing how visually similar it is to the arcade, and to include all characters AND a banging rendition of the soundtrack too? Magnificent. God, can you imagine if this had launched when the Mega Drive was in stores? KILLER APP.

I played through all three levels. The game is just over 3.5 megabytes, I'm amazed with the audio, it is high quality and close to the original. Can't wait for the side by side comparison. I wonder how much of it is sound samples vs hardware playback. Sega Lord said the gameplay was harder than the arcade, i found it to be a lot easier than the arcade. I blew through the first 3 levels with no problems. Once the enemy is knocked down you can spam an attack as they get up. Cheap! but fun. (Still waiting on Sunset Riders!"

Final Fight MD is amazing, if this was released back in the the original retail lifetime of the Mega Drive, this would have been considered “arcade perfect” and the colour palette being closer to the arcade original as is the music and is absolute proof that the Mega Drive could have done a great port on it’s own and it really didn’t need the Mega CD at all. It’s a testament to the talent of this individual and to the Mega Drive’s hardware which shows that the Mega Drive was powerful enough to handle arcade ports like this thanks to the modern tools we now have at our disposal.

SNES reviews were fairly critical at the time. Missing Guy character, no 2-player mode, reduced enemy roster and number of enemies on screen were cut. It was Final Fight though, so it still got a bit of love. The Final Fight Guy version was released in the states, which I don't think we got in Europe.

That's what was so weird. The reviews had no issue mentioning the SNES shortcomings but it wasn't reflected in the review score. The Gamepro review I showed here still gave the SNES game perfect scores across the board.

Impressive most impressive! Dev has mad skills! So many fine programmers putting out so many great Genesis/MD games. However, I do wish devs would develop some new Sega CD titles. So many bad FMV games and so few Sega CD games that pushed the hardware and utilized scaling/rotation. I believe the limited ram in the CD and the slow access time could have been overcome by a ram/rom cart inserted in the Genesis. I would love to see just what the Sega CD could pull of with modern software developers! With the faster CPU, graphics ASIC, a ram/rom Cart in the Genesis, and utilizing all the Genesis hardware. Someday...?

 @@eponymous7910for what it is, 32X is an awesome bit of kit, and I bet there were plenty that were happy to get one, (especially when they were almost giving them away!) but if you've got a more advanced bit of hardware coming less than a year down the line, (turned out to be even less than that 😱) probably best to have kept it an idea and not make it a reality!

What's the ROM size? Could it have been released on a cartridge back in the day, or is it too big?
@JudgmentStorm
@JudgmentStorm Ай бұрын
The one thing keeping Sega from doing this kind of Final Fight port in MD's heyday might have been cartridge cost. Arcade version's full ROM is nearly 26.5 Mbits (3.3 MB). That'd probably mean about $70 for a cartridge. At least.

Barring the color limits, the stage 5 is even better than the arcade in many ways. For example, the fence in foreground has parallel scrolling, which the arcade version didn't have.

I'm guessing the main advantage of the CD version was the storage size of the media. To get all this "stuff" into an affordable cartridge at the time might have been an issue. I'd be interested to hear what size this game ends up being, so we could determine which size cartridge would be needed, and how much it would have cost back in the day :)
