You need to check out Timeless T-posts. Properly uv rated, pre drilled every 3inches and they drive into the ground like a hot knife in butter

Back when I was in my teens we were having a party and we got pretty wasted and a friend of mine had to pee and he kind of relieved himself on a electric fence 😆. Now what was the funniest part of this story is that the fence he peeed on was his fathers fence and he already knew it was live 😆.

Did you say you poured cement in the PVC?
@adamkittel Жыл бұрын
I did. In hind sight, I don't recommend doing that. If I need to replace 1, I'll have to pull it up and replace both the t-post and pipe. The screw insulators pin the pipe to the t-post perfectly fine. BTW, the fence is still zero maintenance

Where did you find the tensioners?
@aspireranch9 ай бұрын
I used these clamps at the corner posts. powerflexfence.com/collections/clamps-joiners/products/snug-bolt-rope-clamp

Why not just drill holes instead of any insulators??
@aspireranch Жыл бұрын
The odds of grounding out on Tpost inside are pretty high. Plus, the insulators pin against the Tpost to keep the pvc in place.

@@aspireranch yeah I didn’t realize he was adding post on top of post. Which is even more confusing. I guess when there’s an over abundance of time and money.

@@RutzRidgeFarm Read the description. The Tpost fence was there years before we bought the place. We wanted a better fence. Covering the existing fence with pvc was the quickest and cheapest solution.

Timeless fence would have been a much better and cheaper choice. Poly wire has a shelf life. I would have gone with high tensile. Poly wire is for temporary fencing.

Actually the timeless t-posts got ruled out. 2 reasons. First was time. I'd have to pull up the existing steel posts. That would add time to the project. And they are still T-posts. We know too well how horses can impale them selves on T-posts. They are just like kids. If they can find a way to hurt themselves, they will. The Belgian and Palomino play rough. So, we're at risk of impalement. Cost wise, they came out a bit more expensive than 2" Sch40 PVC pipe. $14 for 2"x10' PVC. Cut in half for 2 posts. $13 for 1.75"x7' timeless T. However, still well within a "normal budget". I'm sure for many folks, they are a great option. As for high tensile wire. No. Again, we know too well what wire can do to a horse. The existing wire was the first thing we took down. Originally we went with 5/16 braided electric rope. However, we are at risk of tornadoes. And not at risk of our kids wanting to break through the fence. The poly wire we used has a 600lb break strength. The Belgian is 1600+lbs standing still. At a run, he'd break through without hurting himself and the other 2 will follow him. Plus we're on 3 years with that rope and no maintenance. For our needs, the fencing we did works perfect.

That's Powerflex polybraid and it will easily last 10 years in his scenario, most likely more. Rolling it up on reels as most graziers do will shorten it's life span quite a bit.

I looked into that as well. It was more expensive. And still a tpost. Our kids play rough and still a risk of impalement. The ropes are on year 3 without any issues. Plus we wanted the lower break strength in case they needed to run through it.
