Well, what can one say. I remember 880 WCBS way back in the late 60s. I am 63 years old now, have not lived in NYC since 1980. However I remember WCBS playing in our home on an old 1950s style radio and in my Dad's car. It's sad that they the have sunset this station. It will live forever in our memories. I wish all the personalities the best of luck. Just another piece of my childhood drifting away......

I first knew about WCBS when I listened in my father's car during trips. He preferred WCBS over WINS for news, and so did I. Thank you for watching, and have a good night.

57 years of news. Thank you Good Luck. Would be nice if maybe this station makes a comeback in news format again on the internet or other way to keep the fan base going such as going up a frequency on the dial funded by the fans by the people whose life it impacted... That is the magic of radio to unite people with enlightenment and a sense of community.

Sad departure of WCBS in New York City. AM is unfortunately dying a thousand deaths, but this station held fast for a long time. A century of public service. Sorry to see such a stalwart source of news disappear.

A little bit of an emotional shock because for me it’s definitely something that’s always been there. Even when I was a kid I liked listening to the different stations from different cities across the country. Definitely the end of an era in broadcasting.

That would be the same as 780 WBBM signing off for me. I grew up with this station.
@RJDA.Dakota3 ай бұрын
@@todderbert KMOX leaving the air is a distinct possibility because they have been working on putting together a group of FM affiliates and an HD2 on a larger station. That HD2 doesn’t make it this far. A thread running through this is the fact that Audacy runs every one of these stations. Disney has all kinds of money for things like that, Audacy is slowly going bankrupt. That’s what happens when they buy up more than their worth. So sad for that but larger companies like that mismanage a lot of things. There used to be a time when they were not allowed to own more than a couple of affiliates (usually one on MW and one on the FM) for that reason. And talk stations on FM are a huge waste of bandwidth and electricity. At one time everything was all across the MW band.

I understand, but sports seems to be the big-time spoken word format these days. All-news is a lucrative but expensive format to operate, which is why there aren't many of those stations today.

I did put together the “Final Sign-Off” using two different sources, the online version and the off-air version from AM radio. I pieced them together to hear a full proper sign-off, because the commercial loads was interrupted halfway through which was annoying. So I used the off-air from AM radio courtesy of Diamond Joe. So I ended up with the full complete sign-off which was 15 minutes long. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bonapKWqbJtgsMUsi=b5Znd26V1nJ9KI3H

WINS became an all-news station a few years before WCBS did. However, I preferred WCBS's approach to news more than WINS approach. As for the call letters, they had to get rid of them sooner or later due to the ownership change to Audacy.

I also have that, but I used my Panasonic RF-500 which I found at a thrift store late last year. I heard the last 9 minutes and the format flip. In my opinion, they should've just broadcast a loop telling listeners that they had signed off, and turn the transmitter off. WCBS is gone, at the age of 57. WCBS 1967-2024. 😢
