I like how the sequel movies both had dark reflections of Hiccup as the villains. Drago from 2 was the dark dragon tamer who used fear instead of comraderie. Grimmel from 3 is a more literal reflection of Hiccup as he is him if he killed toothless when he caught him.

I guess the movies dont outright say it, but hiccup's "sword" isnt actually a sword, its just a loop that uses dragon gas to emit flame. So he cant stab or chop with it.

Best part is the 500 pound mountain of stubborn muscle Stoick the Vast sobbing over his presumed dead wife and wishing she was there to help raise his son. And telling Hiccup he will never want another wife, and that love is worth every single moment despite the inevitability of loss.

I gotta say I kinda wish they would’ve taken some time between each movie, as much as I love these reactions and can’t wait for the next one these are the kind of you grow up with and watch over a few years, what was most impactful about this story is how it spanned out over so many years and the audience grew with the characters, watching them all back to back kinda diminishes the emotional impact and doesn’t allow to savor the moments and really absorb everything

Anyways, that's my favorite trilogy, I cried so much in the 2nd and 3rd movie, well much more in the last one cause there so much little references from the other two movies, like the movement hiccup does when after the goodbye is like the inverse of when he finally connects with toothless in the first movie and everything. I was very confused and had no clue who some of the characters were (the mom and Eret) because I had never seen the second movie. But It still managed to make me tear up at the end with seeing Toothless' babies. I ended up watching the second one at some point and I do love the series. I don't know if you guys realized it, but Toothless has a similar look and acts a lot like Stitch. And that is because one of the creators and directors of the How to Train Your Dragon movies, Chris Sanders, was both the creator of Stitch and his voice and he inspired a lot if that on him besides the books of course. And happy belated 5th anniversary "HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3: THE HIDDEN WORLD" (FEBRUARY 22, 2019).

It's hinted at in the second movie but not really explained that the dragons have human level intelligence, including having their own language that a human can learn. At least, they did in the books. Hiccup could speak the dragon language in the books. I think that Drago, in the second movie, could speak the dragon language. The dragons seemed to react to his yelling as if it were speech. And Toothless definitely seemed to be speaking to the enemy dragon in that movie. Also, there's an animated series that covers the times between the movies. I wouldn't expect you to react to them, but you might enjoy watching them on your own time.

This is what I want kids to watch. This trilogy is what kids should watch. It shows you how to be compassionate towards what you like to do. Never give up on your efforts. Make friends and family and do what it takes to keep them safe. Learn to mourn the demise of love onces. Understand that nothing is fairy tale. Each action has consequences (like hiccups foot, losing father, then letting go toothless) learn to let go what u love if necessity arise. Understand the life and it's meaning. This trilogy has everything that kid should watch.

You just have to watch a TV series about dragons, not only because of the awesome connection with the second part and the explanation of some things (like Stoick's dragon and Hiccup's sword) but also because of the plot in principle. They dive deeper into what happened on that 5 year gap between the first film and this. They expand on Hiccup and Astrid's relationship, Hiccup and his dad, as well as flesh out the rest of the gang, and how Berk adapted to living with dragons. You should also watch the Gift of the Night Fury holiday special because the events of that are referenced in the next film. And if you like watching Astrid and Hiccup's relationship develop (since when have they been engaged, for example) then you just won’t be able to stop watching this series))))
