Missed you, nice to see you back. But, life gets in the way, so it good to see what you’ve been up to when you have the time. Can’t believe you can literally see the door distorting, you made a too thorough a job of the repair… you’ll sort it out 👍

Wow. A lot of work for such a small rust repair. No wonder people charge so much for metal restoration.

Good feed back on a stamp steel product. If you used the whole panel that may had been a lot more work. Pay money should get a better made panel.

At the 10 min mark, you weld in a small funky green panel part, but you tack weld right onto the funky green panel and didn’t make the green bare metal. Is that right? You don’t have to grind away some of the green to weld that? Im new to this, thanks!

I have to say one thing about your project. YOU will be the only one that knows all the "mistakes" you think you've made. Others will only see a nice refurbished vehicle. So while it is great to try and make perfection, it isn't a game stopper if you have some questionable places. I say that because we all make questionable issues when doing any type work. But we are our own worst critic as well... I applaud your work thus far!

I just love these videos. Genuinely love them. How did you deal with spots you had to weld in but only could tack from the outside. My VW has this mayor windscreen rust repair and its nearly impossible to weld it from the back because you cannot reach it (VW LT 1). Is just welding from the outside a solution?
@mcmotors100
@mcmotors100 9 ай бұрын
I don’t totally understand what your asking, you can weld from inside or outside. As long as you’re welding good metal to good metal the repair should be sound. If you’re saying it’s rotten inside and you can’t get to it then you can always cut a larger opening, make your repairs and then replace the piece you cut out. Good luck 👍

@@FhVW I get you, yeah not ideal but sometimes just has to happen, like when Vagabonders had to weld on the new roof. My advice is weld through primer wherever you can prior to welding and if you can’t get to the back of the weld to protect it you might be able to get cavity wax in that area. If you don’t know it, they can come with a long tube 1 meter ish, which might allow you access and provide some protection.
@FhVW
@FhVW 9 ай бұрын
@@mcmotors100 Ill try that. But yeah, these VW LT corners are made structurally so I have to cut out stuff to reach the backside of these outer panels.

I’m sure you’ve answered this, but how do you protect your bare metal all these months that it’s been stripped of paint and not primed?
@Vangabonders
@Vangabonders 6 ай бұрын
I run a dehumidifier in my garage and keep the doors closed! Without moisture the panels don't really start to rust, but I will still Ospho any bare metal one last time before primer just in case!

@kapowiekapowie865 6 ай бұрын
@@Vangabonders Gotcha thanks. For me, that’s not really an option because my bus is outdoors under cover. Do you think it’s best I prime all bare metal when I’m done welding it to prevent rust while i’m finishing the rest?
