I always ran outside to look when those Shackletons flew over. Lordy they were giving it the beans in those last flyovers. Marvelous sound!

This was not the final flypast. If my memory serves me correctly, which it has done for the past eighty years, the final flypast was performed by Captain Dagg in Pottie's Private Bomber, Pelican 22, when he flew in submarine attack mode, at full speed and at an altitude of 300 feet, right over Ysterplaat! I remember the huge grin on his face, and I could see every rivet on the old beauty. Yes, she was thought of as the elephant - grey and wrinkled on the ouside and dark and smelly on the inside! I don't remember the exact date of the final flight of Pelican 22, but I have it on video somewhere in the dark, dank interior of my computer! Well done, boys! I look forward to the International Museum Day at Ysterplaat on Saturday 18 May, especially to witness the ground run of this aircraft now that its engine problem has been healed by such dedicated and loving hands. The thunderous sound and ground-shaking vibrations will never be replaced nor forgotten!

This was the final fly past where all of them flew together for the last time. They were officially retired from service at this fly past.
