Completing my Summer 2020 quest to paddle the length of the Schuylkill River in Pennsylvania. This final segment was from Gladwyne to Philadelphia, ending up at Boathouse Row. Paddled in my Sea Eagle Explorer 380X inflatable kayak.

Great video Bert. To combat heat wear long sleeves and keep them wet. Paddling provides the breeze. To kayak the Columbia you hear an interstate on one side and railroad tracks upon the other, with occasional river barges especially in the fall, but like your paddle in Pennsylvania there are moments of zen like qualities where nature commands the scene. Your comment about Meade came only moments after my reading that fact in a book by Shelby Foote. My grandmother lives in Mt. Joy Pennsylvania and when we travel that way again I'd love to meet and share kayking and fishing stories and photos.

Hey Bert, I’ve been really enjoying your review videos on the SeaEagles as I’ve been shopping around, and I had a feeling you were a Philly guy based on that familiar accent. :) I’m from the Philly burbs as well but have been living out west. You’re really spotlighting the Northeast in a beautiful way and these adventure videos have made me more optimistic for moving back home and explore the places that were in my backyard the whole time. Can’t wait to see more, Thanks!

NIce to see you paddling in some familiar locations in that final link... some nice rapids there too ... good little tour around the Schuylkill drives locales that I bicycled around many times in the past... I've done a number of trips around the bayous of Tampa Bay in my new inflatable kayak with the windsail attached since I last commented ... I'm enjoying the workout and the serenity of it and you helped inspire me ... keep paddling, Bert!

Thanks for that, Mark. Have I told you previously that we used to live in the Carrollwood section of Tampa? Spent 6 years down there.

Congratulations Bert!! What a fantastic trip you had! I’m (impatiently) awaiting my Sea Eagle 300X to ship any day now (ordered it back in mid-June). I’ve thoroughly enjoyed ALL of your videos (1-I’m from Chester Co, but live in NC now so your locales have been familiar; 2-the scenery, your narrations with history were great!! (I clapped when you made reference to Battle of Brandywine- was just about in backyard of my childhood home in Chadds Ford); 3-watching (and often rewatching) how your Explorer 380X handles) have given me great insight & excitement for when my Explorer arrives on my doorstep!!). I’ve paid particular attention to how the Explorer handles & how you’ve rigged out your boat - you’ve given me ideas (like going ahead & ordering the Fish ‘n Troll board (I will be fishing), using my mushroom anchor is doable, your safety flag set-up (absolute must for me - brother-in-law, myself, & 3 young niece’s almost lost our lives several years ago in a canoe on Susquehanna when a power boater was more interested in his skier than what was in front of him). Thanks again for all your wonderful videos!! What’s next?? PS: I still like your blue bow line!!😂

Thanks for the feedback Susan! I have had such a blast on this Schuylkill adventure. I will say this for rigging up the boat. You can make a lot on your own and save a ton of money in the process. My motor mount is a $6 piece of wood from Lowes! That blue bow line you like so much... it's a dog leash and I just swapped out the regular clip for a carabiner!

You think your razorlite would do well on this trip? This is the area I’m hoping to kayak most frequently and wanna make sure the razorlite can handle it well. Thanks!
@bertsadventures9974
@bertsadventures9974 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely!!! The only area from this section that would ever be any trouble would be just below the dam at Gladwyne, but that would only be an issue when the river is high otherwise it is just nice class 1 through there.
