Final send off for our brother Rudy

For our beloved friend Rudy, you were truly loved and you will be missed. Thank you for your service to this great nation and to the people of the state of North Carolina. Most of all thank you for being such a good friend, father and husband to all of those who loved you. Till Valhalla.
Forsyth County Deputy Auston "Rudy" Smith Reudelhuber was laid to rest Tuesday. He left behind a wife and two children.

Reudelhuber, 32, died at about 5:15 a.m. Sept. 9 when a truck crossed the center line and hit his patrol car on N.C. 150 in Davidson County, according to the sheriff's office. The driver of the truck was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. “He was willing to lay down his life for you. He did that everyday,” said Pastor Henry Watterson, noting his service in law enforcement and the military.
He was a United States Army veteran of six years who served in Afghanistan and had been with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office for two years. He served with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office for three years before that. "Auston was a small-town guy, simple man, farming guy and grew up in little old Lexington, North Carolina," Watterson said, the family's pastor, who remembered Reudelhuber as someone who enjoyed deep one-on-one conversations."He loved a prank, he loved to pick around. And he loved to be serious," Watterson he said. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at Rich Fork Church in Thomasville, North Carolina."Our hearts are heavy," said Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough during brief remarks at the service. Giving the final radio call at Tuesday's funeral, Kimbrough asked dispatch to raise David 178, Deputy Rudy. "Sheriff’s office all units hold traffic," dispatch said over the radio. "David 178, David 178. Communications to David 178, Deputy Rudy?". "Final call for Deputy II Auston Reudelhuber, a true hero who gave his life in the line of duty Sept. 9, 2023. We bid a solemn farewell. His courage and dedication to the protection of our community will ever be remembered," the sheriff said.
"Our hearts are heavy with grief but we stand united in gratitude. Deputy Rudy, you will never be forgotten. Rest in eternal peace. We will hold the line from here," he said into the radio, standing before Reudelhuber's casket.
Reudelhuber is survived by his wife and two children, his parents, and a brother and wife and their children.
