Final Shape First Impressions

Destiny 2 The Final Shape is finally here. But is it any good? Here I'll be discussing my thoughts on what I've played so far after playing the campaign as well as some other activities. Let me know what you thought in the comments!

A few things to mention!!!!! 1. Yes I know this includes an exotic mission, I needed more gameplay last minute so I did the mission. It wasn't too bad. 2. I gave the expansion an 8/10 compared to other expansions, not compared to other games. Since I don't think comparing an expansion to a full game is fair. My score is also dictated by the expansion as a whole so far, not just the campaign, it can go up or down and isn't set in stone. 3. I found a way to kinda fix the stuttering issue with OBS, I don't know how effective it will be moving forward but it involves giving OBS high priority, lowest D2 graphics settings, and capping the game at 60fps. I don't have a bad computer either, every other game runs perfectly fine, Destiny is just a mess in that regard. 4. The Beyond Light script is nearing completion, expect it (hopefully) before the end of the month! Thank y'all so much for watching my videos, it really does mean so much

btw if you're still having obs issues, try switching from game to display capture. Idk if this acutally works, because game capture is just straight broken for me(black screen)

@Dreamuur I figured out how to solve the issue (at least on my computer) I need to put my game on the lowest graphics settings, cap the frame rate at 60fps, and play in borderless windowed. The game stutters sometimes still but it's mostly smooth ever since I started streaming and recording the footage for the Witch Queen video. Hopefully that helps you too!👍

I didn't think the raid would be as hard as they said it would be, especially after RoN. However I, and many others, are currently getting filtered at the first encounter. I'm so glad the game is allowing itself to be difficult.

The server issues were pretty ridiculous, easily the second worst launch day for Destiny. It got so ridiculous that me and my friend were making jokes involving the launch as well as doing variations of "please almighty traveler, let us play." So ironically, we had some semblance of fun with launch day despite probably only having played for basically a half hour total.

"I don't think they'll kill Zavala because he's the vanguard vendor". Well they might actually do so. Reason for it is, at the end of the campaign, Crow becomes the new hunter vanguard, he can easily replace Zavala, especially since he's taken a more proactive role in investigating areas, and informing guardians of stuff. The other reason is, while Zavala got a new VA to replace the one that died, I think it would be appropriate to have Zavala die since the og actor has passed.

In one of the episodes Zavala will probably die his final death most likely to Xivu in someway to cement that she's a real threat and bump her up for whenever they touch on her story again.

i loved the story of the campaign and the sacrifices made by the characters made the witness seem genuinely evil and not a push over, the dissenters helping you even though they seemed like evil statues the whole time was a sick lore addition. the only issue i had was i played the whole legend campaign solo and the only issue i had was the requiem mission being hard because prismatic is just so overpowered it did take away from the severity of the stakes a little bit but overall it was the most enjoyable campaign for me so far, the witch queen only coming in second because the traveler actually influenced the story a lot in the final shape.

I understand this is a first impressions video, but there is some explanation on the traveller. I can’t fathom why it’s not in the main story, and why it’s in optional side missions and lore tabs but it is there. It’s still not properly explained where it came from but my guess is the gardener in unveiling “changing the flower game” was making the traveller. Then after the witnesses race it became more strict in how it operated, only giving the light to who it felt was worthy and the traveller chooses to be silent as it never wants to properly interfere. It doesn’t want to be referred as a god it literally just wants to help in its eyes. Still not sure why this isn’t properly explained, and other parts aren’t explained like “how did the traveller survive against the witness in Sol originally?” But whatever it’ll get answered eventually maybe. Would have preferred if the traveller was a morally grey entity still because that would have made more sense with light and dark not having morals, but the morals are made by who uses them, but these answers make sense overall.

Ngl I understand why we don't get many answers about the traveler during the campaign, but I would've liked to know after the campaign finished. Maybe like some quests or something? But I don't read lore for videos so until this series ends I don't think im going to touch the lore so it doesn't conflict

Î did the campaign on legendary and then went on with my other classes to try the normal one. in the normal one not only was everything easier to kill, different enemies spawned. In Legendary that one taken wizard at the very beginning is tanky as fuck and really hurts, in normal thats just a regular red bar wizard. I don't think they have changed any of the mechanics, but the enemies were so piss easy and boring, I switched back to legendary almost instantly But I really think Bungie cooked with this one, having stuff for everyone, but in a good way. For example the new portable Failsafe I have glued to my chest now. Not only have they made a copy of the best girl an exotic, it also fires rockets. What more can you want

Zavala's character in this expansion is terrible. He gives up to an obvious trap that even HIMSELF knows is a trap by the Witness Completwly abandons what being a "Commander" means by splitting from his fireteam And gets Targe killed for no good reason by going into the Dark alone

What are you talking about? Knowing the intricacies of Destiny's lore is absolutely not necessary to review a DLC. And besides, the two situations are very similar; Zavala was going through a mental crisis because of losing his family in both situations

Also, Zavala's mental crisis was on his faith towards the traveler and the darkness providing him with a clear answer. The witness tried to use his family against by promising to bring them back. He rejected it out right. Sure, he's still grieving them, but he's grown from haunted. His family was not the source of his mental anguish in final shape like it was the main focus in haunted.

Final shape looks pretty rough terms of sales and active players for the newly launched major expansion. Most Destiny tubers views are same as before the release and even gameplay videos from major let’s play channel has been on par with indie games and not triple A. Hopefully this will force Bungie to change for the better

Apart from their internal structure, because lets face it when things get rough cuts happened, but this mainly impacts the Developers and not the ones who made the decision in the first place. Within the community, and in general the community has said thus far Bungie cooked us a delicious first course. The Episode structure is where our concerns lay, and how that pans out. Change what for the better?
