Thanks man. This is how I have always done it. Occasionally I will have one build off the lid but it’s not too big of a deal to frame up the comb. I usually find them within a few days of moving in.

I use those in the winter. They will build of of them. Not as bad as the wooden tops.

I see your using plastic foundation and empty space around it. I found if I don't put in frames they build on my lid. Have you tried to remove the foundation so you have frames in the empty space to keep them off the lid and to keep the open space. Everyone doing it differently. That's why Beekeeping is great. Yeah I have. They will build it out but sometimes it’s not attached well or it is wonky. I prefer to check them on a regular basis.
